For this week's Wild Bird I am featuring the Redbellied Woodpecker.. It is a common bird found in my area and around the state of Maryland.. I have a pair that visit my yard and feeders frequently..

This woodpecker loves peanuts, suet sometimes Black-oiled sunflowers seeds and cracked corn..

Above you can see the red on this woodpecker's belly..

I've always enjoyed the red bellieds. They seem like such gentle birds, but maybe they have a side we don't know about---the blue jays sure won't bully them on the feeders like all the rest of the birds.

I have never seen that bird - we do not have the Redbellied Woodpecker (Karolinaspett - Melanerpes carolinus) in Sweden. The bird is very beautiful and so are your pictures.
I just saw one of these while hiking on Sunday. I love these fellers!! :)

They have been sighted around here but not visited our yard. Your photos make for a good ID on this woodpecker Eileen.

Wonderful share Eileen and just yesterday when I had my duties of Tuesday pick up from school for the twin grands... We pulled into my driveway and the twins said "Look Nana a Woodpecker and then the explanation of their name and why began. Sure enough it was one of our daily visitors of a Red-bellied Woodpecker too ;) I enjoyed viewing each of your images~
