I have a list below of memes I am joining for this week, and to save time I am doing one post for all. They are all fun memes to participate in...I hope you can join in with the fun and check out some of the participating posts. Special thanks to all the wonderful host and their memes, I hope you have some time to check them out.
Hubby and I often go out for walks on our local fireroads, lately we have been checking on our neighborhood Barred Owl and sometimes I am looking for other birds. On this day March 30th we didn't see the owl but I found this female Pileated Woodpecker.
She was working hard around this tree, it may be her nest. This is almost right across from where we saw our Barry the Barred Owl.
These woodpeckers have been known to drilled rectangular holes in trees looking for bugs and for their nest.
The Pileated Woodpeckers are large birds and mostly black, they have a patch of white on their wings seen while in flight. This is the female wearing the black moustache. The male would have a red line instead of two black lines on their face.
Above a view of our lake from the fireroad, a White-breasted Nuthatch, Downy Woodpecker.
Here is a peek at the lake on a dreary cloudy day walk! The trees should be turning green soon.
Above are images from my most recent walk on the fireroad. On the top row are the Pileated Woodpecker, Canada Goose, Louisiana Waterthrush, Cormorants, Geese and Great Blue herons on the nest. I hope you enjoyed our walk in the woods. As always, I appreciate the visits and your nice comments. Have a happy new week ahead!
As always thanks to the wonderful group of hosts listed below.

Have a Happy Day, Eileen!!

Hello,
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos! The woodpecker is very similar to "my" woodpecker. Very pretty owl too!
Have a nice week ahead!
What a handsome woodpecker!!! And the owl does, indeed, look wise. Wonderful photos as always! Have a grand day!
ReplyDeleteIncredible photos. Like Madsnapper, I love Barry the best. You have a lovely place to walk. Wishing you a very good week, Eileen.
ReplyDeleteHello sweet Barry! He is something special, you are so lucky how you catch these lovely critters. I enjoyed all your photos and this hike along with you!
ReplyDeleteI've only seen one owl in my life and one Pileated Woodpecker so these are great shots, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are wonderful. I have yet to see one of those larger size woodpeckers.
ReplyDeleteThat tree in the second photo has a magical face, Eileen! Love your post
ReplyDeletelove the pileated and the barred!
ReplyDeleteHari Om
ReplyDeleteThe woody is such an attractive bird... but golly, Barry wins my vote for his dignified presence! YAM xx
Beautiful birds! I once saw two Pileated Woodpeckers in my backyard at the same time. They are fascinating to watch.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to see the piles tied woodpecker. My favorite though is the beautiful owl. Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteEileen, your photos are lovely! I hope your Monday and week will be great!
ReplyDeleteLove your photos! I can catch the little Downy woodpeckers so easily, but the Pileated Woodpeckers, are hard to get, what great and lucky shots!! I also saw our Barred Owl this evening, and snapped a photo which I'll post in a day or so -- Unfortunately, it's really being harassed by a crow that I just wish would leave it alone!
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend has ended on a good note -- The weather sure has been fabulous, hasn't it?
A lot of great photos Eileen! I love owls and any glimpse of one if the wild gives me a thrill. Those woodpeckers really use their heads.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos of the woodpecker and the owl!
ReplyDeleteAmazing pics :)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week ahead.
The Pileated woodpecker is great! Beautiful landscapes there! The Barred Owl looks little bit same kind than Ural Owl. Have a nice week!

Have a great new week, Eileen.
Best regards, Synnöve
Wonderful photos of those lowely birds.Cute Eileen.
ReplyDeleteExcelente trabalho e belas fotografias.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e boa semana.
Great shots of a busy woodpecker. What a great hat he's wearing! The owl too-- such wonderful walks you take.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. One year th pileated woodpecker kept drilling a hole at the base of the old dead tree we used to hang the feeders on and eventually the hole went right through and toppled the tree. Enjoy this lovely weather.
ReplyDeleteThat woodpecker is a funny looking bird with its red cap :)
ReplyDeletePL Woodpeckers are one of my favourite birds. I had been lucky enough o see them on a couple of occasions. Nice to see some again.
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
The pileateds around here are very noisy. I hear them more than see them. When I do catch a glimpse I never manage to get my camera before they take flight. You got some great photos.
ReplyDeleteawww, I haven't seen a Pileated in our neck of the woods for a couple years :(
ReplyDeleteLovely shots. I like the Pileated--he is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteMB
What super amazing photos!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a wonderful neighborhood walk. I hope I start to see more birds on my morning strolls soon ... They seem to arrive about the time most of the snowbirds leave. (Maybe they hide until it gets less crowded.)
ReplyDeleteGreat bird shots. I love that owl, so handsome.
ReplyDeleteThe woodpecker and owl are lovely! You live in a wonderful area. Have a beautiful week!
ReplyDeleteWow, all these amazing birds! Great captures!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I love owls. Don't think I've ever seen one in real life, though.
ReplyDeleteLove the woodpecker and owl shots ~ All wonderfully done photography~

WoW!!! eileen, another great group of images. you are lucky to see the pleated woodpeckers, they may be around here but i never see them. i also enjoyed seeing the owl, very exciting and a great capture!! all of a sudden i am seeing a lot of the nuthatches, or i am seeing one, frequently. they are beautiful!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful place to walk around with such lovely birds.
ReplyDeleteGod's artistry on your lovely birds is really amazing.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! I especially love that owl shot!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, you saw some great birds! Love the Pileated Woodpecker.
ReplyDeleteI am used to seeing the little downy woodpecker here on occasion. I was taking a walk about two weeks ago and there was the large woodpecker in your photos. I was so excited and yet no camera with me and when he flew off I was surprised at what a large bird he was indeed!
ReplyDeletePileateds are all over the place on Cacapon Mountain, W.V. I hear their amusing calls all the time, but they are camera shy.
ReplyDeleteOne Mrs. Pileated figured out how to land on the tiny suet feeder.
~
You always have such wonderful photos, Eileen. I like the sweet little nuthatch, and it's always such a treat to see a pileated in person! I love the sound they make when they fly away from my tree.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of special nice birds.

Love the large woodpecker - love to hear their pecking sound, but up till now I've only seen a surprisingly small one! Still looking for the owl!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Eileen for being a part of SEASONS - love your knowledge about birds, so I always enjoy my visits at your blog tremendously:) Have a great and happy week!
Very nice series !
ReplyDeleteThe Pileated are very active here now too, but I can never get great pics like this....wonderful!

The woodpecker made a large hole in that tree! The Barred Owl was a good sighting--they blend into their surroundings so well. You had clouds on your walk --we had snow! The birds here are very confused, especially the robins. I fed them today as I felt sorry for them. I just have to fight off all the squirrels that show up..lol!
ReplyDeletewe love walking fire roads, love the owl, usually do quiet on these roads, fun times!! have an amazing week! ( ;
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a Pileated Woodpecker in person..Very cool looking..Love the owl..I hear them around here but haven't seen one..Great shots..
ReplyDeleteI've been hearing woodpeckers calling and pecking like crazy, and we have an owl that calls every night. Based on the sound I think it's a Barred Owl too. - Margy
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the woodpecker features so much. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
Great shot of the woodpecker and I love the owl.

Thank you for sharing these lovely photos!
Love, LOVE the Barred Owl and all of the other wonders you have in this post. This reminds me that we have a fire road in a nearby park, that I need to walk when I am feeling all better. Hope you have a joy filled week my sweet friend~
ReplyDeleteAwesome shots. Love the barred owl!
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, All of these pictures are good ... my favorites are the Pileated Woodpecker. I loved your comment about the sounds a Pileated Woodpecker makes on the chimney next door to me. My post March 10th: http://john-s-island.blogspot.com/2016/03/carkeek-eagles-woodpecker-solar-eclipse.html Thanks for sharing your blog. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteEileen,
ReplyDeleteI hear so many different birds in our woods and I just really need to starting focusing on taking some photos.
You capture nature so very well!
Happy Tuesday,
Jemma
Great photos from you always!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a Pileated Woodpecker but always wished I could. I didn't know the differences in the male/female coloring. Interesting and informative. And who would love a Barred Owl. Barry the Barred Owl is probably out looking for his mate because it is that time of year for them :) Great series, Eileen.
ReplyDeleteAndrea @ From the Sol
The woodpecker always amazes me. Such a tiny little bird, yet it can drills big and deep holes in the trees. Love the owl shot. Have a beautiful day!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! The woodpecker and owl are so charming.
ReplyDeleteOh my, great post! I have the pileated woodpeckers and the barred owls, too. And of course the geese on the pond. I remember the first time I ever heard the pileated...I was waiting for something to come swinging from limb to limb, and swoop down and grab me:) ha ha. Love them! And I am hoping to see the owl babies again this year! Isn't Mother Nature divine? Aloha!
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of cool birds in my yard, but not like you can see from your fire road, Eileen. I hear the Pileated woodpeckers more than I see them, except when they are eating my apples later, I will have to try to get set up to photograph them sometime. I also hear an owl frequently but never seem to be able to find it in the trees, or the hawk.
ReplyDeleteHello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see all these birds. The woodpecker in your first shots is so special. Great to see.
Many greetings,
Marco
You are definitely the Bird Lady, Eileen! You live in the perfect spot for birding. I love that owl.
ReplyDeleteGreat series.
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots Eileen. The Pileated Woodpecker interested me in particular as it is one of the birds I so rarely get to see. All beautiful birds!
ReplyDeleteA wonderful collection of birds.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful birds collection, I love them.
ReplyDeleteDearest Eileen; Wow, I really enjoyed seeing Pileated Woodpecker♡♡♡ I wish I could see rectangular holes drilled by them (^_^)ï½–

You had some great shots there, Eileen. I haven't seen a pileated woodpecker since we moved away from Pondside House. I miss the sound, as annoying as it was early in the morning!

ReplyDeleteOh wow. My husband JUST saw one of these guys-a pileated woodpecker- near the top of our driveway. So cool.
ReplyDeleteI love pileated woodpeckers! Once in a while one visits our yard. I rarely see an owl though.
