Loggerhead Shrike

Hello,

Happy Memorial Day! God Bless our veterans, soldiers and those who have lost their lives to protect the USA.

This week I am sharing the Loggerhead Shrike another Florida bird.  The Loggerhead Shrike is a medium sized passerine. This bird has a cool looking black mask and it has a short black hooked beak.

This Loggerhead Shrike was seen at the Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park.

This Loggerhead Shrike Posed nice showing both sides and back plumage and that hooked beak.

This Shrike below was seen in Cape Coral Florida. These birds are known to skewer their kill on thorns or barbed wire.

Thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.

Cape Coral & Myakka River State Park, Florida

Hello

These are some images from our time in Florida, one day we visited the Myakka River State Park after a visit to the Cape Coral area to see the Burrowing Owls.  While watching the Burrowing Owls I also noticed the Loggerhead Shrike, seen below. It was also the spot were we saw the Monk Parakeets, I posted on a previous post.

Below is the Loggerhead Shrike seen on a wire near the ball field. It was a pretty blue sky above the Shrike.

Black-crowned Night Heron

Hello,

I am sharing another Florida bird with the help of my Flickr photos. This is the Black-crowned Night Heron. We saw these herons in various parks and places in Florida. These shots were taken at the Lettuce Lake Park near Tampa, Florida.

At Lettuce Lake Park there is a boardwalk and you just look down at the birds, most birds were really close.

The Black-crowned Night Heron's have mostly grey and black plumage. They breed in colonies and they live around fresh and salt water wetlands.

Saturday's Critters #179

Saturday's Critters #179

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.

For those who did not see my last post , we returned home from our visit to Washington State for two weeks only to find out my desktop computer is messed up. The auto update from Windows 10 did not work well. I have been using my mini iPad to comment and visit blogs for now. But, it is taking longer. So I will be visiting, it may just take me longer until I have my desktop back.
Luckily this post was scheduled, I am sharing some more of my favorite sights from the Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland Florida. I hope you enjoy my photos.

Come for a walk on the trails with me and this Great Blue Heron.

The light is shining just right to catch the pretty colors on this Purple Gallinule.

I believe this is a female Anhinga showing off her pretty feathers.

The Great Blue Herons do like to pose for the cameras.

The Green Heron does not mind striking a pose.

A pretty female Hooded Merganser and her reflection.

This female Painted Bunting was a little shy and tried hiding in the brush along the trail. Can you see her, she is bright green in color?

This is the cool looking Turquoise Long-tailed Skipper seen on the Alligator Alley trail.

Lake Hancock can be seen from walking the trail called Alligator Alley. On this day we saw a group of Brown Pelicans with some Cormorants.

As always thanks for the visits and the nice comments. I also thank everyone who is linking up and sharing their critters.. Happy Saturday, have a great weekend!

A peek at Washington

Hello,

We've had a lot going on lately, this past Saturday evening we arrived home after vacationing 2 weeks in Washington State. Then I started having problems with my desktop after the Windows 10 anniversary update? So, as I type this post on my tiny mini iPad our desktop in the repair shop! I have not loaded my camera photos onto my computer and I only have these camera photos.  I can not share any Washington state birds, they are still on my camera. Enjoy the view!

This scene is of the Olympic Mountains at the Hoh River.

Washington State trip May 2017

We like to fly on Southwest Air, we had a direct flight to Seattle and then rented a car to drive all around.   We drove a loop started at the Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, Anacortes, Port Angeles, Cape Flattery, La Push, Olympic Nat'l Park and Olympia back to Sea-Tac.

I appreciate your visit and for your comments!  I wish everyone a great day and weekend ahead!

Monk Parakeet

Hello,

I am sharing another Florida lifer, the Monk Parakeet. I planned a  daytrip to see the Burrowing Owls and I happened to see the Monk Parakeet in the same spot along with a Loggerhead Shrike.

The Monk Parakeet is a bright green parrot with a grayish face and breast.

They are native to South America. They have established colonies in the USA.

I watch numerous Monk Parakeets going back and forth to this light pole. They were working on a nest.

Saturday's Critters #178

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.

I may be away from my computer and internet for a bit. I will visit your blogs and comment as soon as possible.

I am taking you back to the Circle B for some more bird sightings. The Wilson's Snipe could usually be found in a couple places off the trails.

Two Wilson's Snipes in the morning light.

I could always get my fill of Black Bellied Whistling Ducks at the Circle B.

The Black Crowned Night Heron could be found in various spots along the trail too.

Looking up at the sky, it was filled with Tree Swallows.

A Limpkin was sharing the trail with us.

My You tube video of the Limpkin, their sounds are very loud and weird.

As always thanks for the visits and the nice comments. I also thank everyone who is linking up and sharing their critters.. Happy Saturday, have a great weekend!
