Merry Christmas everyone!
These photo were taken on the same day Dec 14th. It was a snowy morning so I did my walking on the treadmill. I saw a blur go by my window, I was not sure what went by. When I finished my walking I looked out my window to see this hawk below. I am not sure, but I was told it is a Sharp-shinned Hawk. It was small in size.
My version of Where's Waldo, my Dark-eyed Junco tree. How many can you find?
I was able to zoom in on two of the Dark-eyed Juncos sitting close together.
The Sharp-Shinned Hawk decided the back yard was a better setting for eating his meal.

Merry Christmas! You captured some great photos of the hawk. I know you tire of snow there, but the birds show up really well against the snow. I appreciate your blog friendship and you hosting Sat. Critters. All the best to you in the new year.
Feliz Natal, que ele seja iluminado e abençoado e dure cada dia do ano novo que se aproxima! beijos, tudo de bom, chica
Hello,
The Hawk is pretty, and it's very similar the hawk who lives here too. I don't like that they are killing "my" little birds in the garden, but there isnothing I can do about it.
Thank you for visiting my blog, and all your nice comments!

I counted 5 Juncos. Such cute little birds. We only get them in the winter here in Georgia.
Neato! We have a sharp-shinned, too. He's not hungry enough to come to the house and perch, but he has done so!

Merry Christmas Eileen!
Have a Merry Christmas. You had a front row seat for watching the hawk have dinner.
Merry Christmas and wonderful New Year Eileen!
Merry Christmas, Eileen! The Sharpie exhibits a couple of distinctive ID features which I re-learned a few weeks ago when I misidentified a small male Cooper's Hawk as a Sharp-shinned. Aside from the small size, note that its eye seems to sit almost in the middle of its face, and the black on its head is more confined to its cap and does not extend down the nape. Your photos show this beautifully. I counted 5 juncos but probably missed a couple of more-- maybe the hawk's dinner!
Gorgeous photos !!! Merry Christmas to you Eileen and to all friends visiting your blog !!!
We need our critters every day

Terrific that the Hawk stuck around for you to finish your walk! I am looking out in my back yard right now and the Juncos, Chickadees and House Finches are patiently waiting their turn to go to the birdfeeder from a nearby tree! Merry Christmas to you and all the Critters!
Love your little Hawk! My mom had one visit during the cold winter in Missouri, and he drank from her birdbath. She was able to get some good pictures of it. Well, I counted 6 Juncos in your tree, but there was possibly one more, haha! And, a pretty Bluejay. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Eileen, and Happy New Year!

Beautiful Cooper's Hawk, I love it. Festive greetings Eileen and all family.
Hi Eileen, Thank you so much for the kind Christmas and New Year wishes. May I return same to you and yours! I enjoyed today's Saturday's Critters. Your photos of the Dark-eyed Juncos got me interested in identifying some birds that look similar in a tree just outside my window. I see them often this time of year when the trees do not have leaves. After doing some Google searches I think I've setteled on them to be Black-capped Chickadees. They are cute little birds and spring around (actually flying) from branch to branch in the big birch tree. I think they eat the tiny birch seeds. Anyway, these are some fun critters and someday I hope to get some pics of them to share on Saturday's Critters. Thank you Eileen for sharing your blog. Without doubt you are one of the best bloggers I have come to know. What a super job you do of publishing every week and always returning kind comments. Thank you, as always, for visiting and commenting on my blog. I look forward to your comments! Take good care and be well! Your follower from the Pacific Northwest, John

Is that a bird sitting next to that Hawk??He's pretty brave..I think it's a Coopers Hawk..I could be wrong...There sure are a lot of Junco's in there. Have a Merry Christmas..
I counted 5 Juncos, but am betting there are more! I was wondering how people tell Cooper's Hawk and Sharp shinned hawks apart...I think I have looked at All About Birds and still have trouble but going to look again. Whatever it is, it is a beauty.
Merry Christmas, Eileen, to you and your family. Looking forward to blogging with you in the new year.
Merry Christmas!
