May 9th-10, our Road Trip continued to the New River Gorge in West Virginia. We stayed one night and two days checking out the river, gorge and bridge trails.
On October 20, 2018 is the 40th anniversary of the New River Bridge Day! They will close the New River Gorge bridge for Bridge Day. You can walk across the bridge, bungee jump, skydive or rappel or just enjoy the festival. There will be food and music.

We took the road tour down to the river below the bridge.

Stairs down to the New River Gorge overlook. We stopped at one of the landings on the stair and a Hooded Warbler landed on the railing right next to me. I am not sure who was surprised more me or the bird. It happened too fast I could not get a photo.

Amazing capture and view on the new bridge and gorge… the bridge stood truly an engineering marvel and great under arch! And also the nature around the bridge looks wonderful to be watched for wild flowers and critters. Loved the wood trail

Glad you took the road down... The warnings about that road made me laugh since it was not that bad at all (compared to some roads we go on)... ha ha ....
There's so much to see in West VA...One of my favorite places along the New River Gorge area is Grandview... Nice hike and great views...

Okay ..... I would LOVE to raft on the New River, but bungee jumping off the bridge????? I don't THINK SO!!! LOL (You'll have to let me know if you see any bungee folks.)
Wow, what a fabulous looking place! I could not cross a bridge like that unless I had my eyes closed before we got to it and didn't open them until we were well across. I love seeing the butterflies in stones gathering the warmth from them like that. I did see that myself once and it was something special to witness. I so enjoy your wonderful photos and live vicariously through your travels. Enjoy your day!

Wow! That's a beautiful bridge
I stopped here on my way back from Ohiopyle, PA. I camped there in the state park there's amazing water falls there some right in town. I want to go back again because I wanted to tour Falling Water the home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. that has water running right underneath. I couldn't leave my dog in the car because the tour was longer than I wanted to leave her. The bridge is amazing...and the New River below. Many years back one of the things I wanted to do was paddle down the New River, this is as close as I got but it made me feel good! Cool moment shared with the hooded you mentioned.
We took the road twice, two different days. The scenery is beautiful at the river level. Thanks Betsy!

It looks like its a haven for those pretty butterflies.
It is always fun to sight-see with you but I just love those butterflies!
Eileen for the first time in ages in order to comment I had to enter a Google password....which of course I had no clue what it was and had to look it up in some password storage book, lol! I had recently posted about difficulty leaving comments on blogspot / blogger blogs over time with some of them now showing those weird picture puzzles. In your case Google wanted my password. I don't think that any of this is in our control lol and just happens randomly according to the whims of Google
