Shenandoah National Park

Happy Monday Everyone!

Hubby and I took a road trip to visit Shenandoah National Park and the Skyline Drive. We spent one night in nearby Harrisonburg Va so we could be closer to the southern section of the Skyline Drive.

From Front Royal to the South River Falls parking area is 72.1 miles. On our first day we hiked the South River Falls trail, which was close to 4 miles round trip. It was a sunny day in the 50's. Here are some photos from the Skyline Drive and our hike to the waterfalls.

The hike is listed as moderate to strenuous. The 83 ft. falls is close to 850 ft change in elevation, I felt that hike on the walk back up the trail to the car.

The trail down to the South River Falls follows along the creek.

The view of falls is being taken over by trees and other vegetation. You may have a better view of the falls if you take the trail all the way to the bottom.

The stream leads to the waterfalls.

The Pileated Woodpecker was spotted a few times. I heard a few Juncos and Kinglets.

Thanks for your visit today!  I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.

Thanks to the hosting team of Our World Tuesday!

I hope to see you there. Thanks to the host today. Enjoy your day and have a great new week.

As always I thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.

  8. The hike to these falls remind me of The trail to Dark Hollow Falls. The waterfall, though, is completely different.

  20. Very nice pileatd trying to hide there on the tree trunk. A beautiful walk -- I really enjoy trails that end at waterfalls. Such a sense of a wonderful reward at the end of the walk (except of course, then you have to hike back -- but I guess the car at the trailhead is a kind of reward too!). Lots of rewards on this beautiful trail along the way to that ultimate prize ... thanks for sharing the journey.

  42. Beautiful place! Too bad the parking spot want at the bottom of the hill instead. Lots easier to do the hill on the first part of the walk. But it sounds like it was a perfect day. I've been there, at least in that area up above the river. When I was there, there was a herd of horses running along the edge. Beautiful!
