Our World, My World

Happy Monday,

I wanted to share some more photos from our getaway to Shenandoah Nat'l Park. We saw a Black Bear along the drive and took a short walk on Big Meadows and my favorite trail called the Limberlost Trail.

The view from the Range View overlook on the Skyline Drive.

A Shenandoah Nat'l park bird mosaic: Top row are the Red-eyed Vireo, Scarlet Tanager, Hooded Warbler. Middle Row is the Indigo Bunting. Bottom Row is a female American Redstart, not sure maybe a Veery and last a Great-crested Flycatcher.

Pink Trillium, a pretty wildflower found in the park.

Some of the Shenandoah Nat'l Park wildflowers.

A Black Bear seen along the side of the Skyline Drive.

A view of the Limberlost Trail.  We watched a couple of Eastern Phoebe in this area.

Not sure what this moth/butterfly is?

The Indigo Bunting was a common bird seen in the park, they were everywhere we went in the park.

Thanks for your visit today!  I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.

I heard the first report of Indigo Bunting here yesterday. A friend of mine had a male in her garden and she was delighted. We know of a snag where a male has sung from the top for the past two years, so I will have to check it out. The weather is still pretty cool for them.

Thanks for sharing your beauty...from bears to moths...with your well catalogued birds. We have blue birds but I don't know of indigo buntings...but then again, I'm not out in nature as much these days. But the sun is back out this morning, calling to me. Have a great week, Eileen.

This is so wonderful Eileen! I’d love to go back and spend more time at Shenandoah (still I’m grateful we got to visit at all). Fabulous to see a bear! And the wildflowers .... we were there in Fall, so beautiful color, but not that kind! And the indigo is one of my spark birds.

Beautiful scenery, critters & flowers Eileen. I wonder, I was told all Trillium is white & as the blossom ages it goes pink to dark rose. Is that true? Or just an old wives' tale.

Angie said...

Eileen - wow, you really covered your bases! Birds, wildflowers and even a bear! I would love to see one indigo bunting, not to mention MANY! Thanks for linking up your delightful mosaics to Mosaic Monday, and I hope you have a superb week ahead!

Hello Anni, I had to google the Trillium colors. You are correct, they are white and turn pink as they age and die. Thanks for the comment.

Beautiful photos! I love the layers of the mountains too! And seeing a bear must be amazing!

Your moth / butterfly is definitely a butterfly and possibly some kind of skipper?

Jeevan said...

Wow! Amazing collages on colourful birds and wild flowers from the park! Spotting bear should make feel exciting and I hope they aren’t threatening people taking the trail

Happy Weekend Eileen

Love the bear shots. Hope they were taken from your car! That looks like a large moth to me. We get one in the desert called a sphinx moth. Very large... almost as large as a small hummingbird and sometimes mistaken for a hummingbird from a distance.

Nice post with a lot of variety in it. Specially the photo of the blue mountains in the distance is beautiful.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Lovely array of flower and bird photos. We had a bear destroy our bird feeder not long ago so had to put them away per suggestion of our local police department. So I hung up wind chimes instead. If those start rattling loudly I'll be running to check on them. Might catch a photo of the bear. Have a great weekend.
