Hello, Happy Monday everyone!
I am sharing more on our road trip to Florida. I mentioned before how I like to research new parks and places to visit before leaving home. On this day I already had the address in our GPS for the Haw Creek Preserve State Park. It is nice to find these parks, which are new to us. Florida as a lot of nature preserves, state parks and local parks. The 1005 acre park is located in Bunnell, Flagler County.
The park has a 1.5 mile round-trip boardwalk and also has a boat launch.
It was a cloudy day and some rain the morning we were there. The scenery is beautiful, even with the rain drops. There are spurs off the main boardwalk that take you to views of the creek. The birds we saw were mostly waders and very shy, they flew off as soon as they noticed us.
Two birds hung around for a photo op, the Limpkin and the Wood Stork. Other birds seen were the Great Blue Heron, Great Egret and a Little Blue Heron. Yes, people there are trash cans for your trash. Please use them.
A view of the Haw Creek.
The boardwalk views remind me of our other park visits in Florida like Lettuce Lake and the Hillsborough River State Park.
The boardwalk goes by Cypress trees, tall Palms and lots of Palmetto Palms. I am sure there were lots of alligators there too.
Another look and view from one of the boardwalk spurs, the Haw Creek.
A nearby Limpkin did not seem shy around us, it must have been searching for snails.
The Wood Stork was a little hidden by the tree.
Please check out and visit the following memes and links. I hope to see you there.

DeleteHello Eileen,
Wonderful photos from Florida! I like the palm trees and the small palms beside the bordwalk. You are brave! I had never visited a place with alligators.
Enjoy your day, and have a nice week ahead!

ReplyDelete"Boardwalks are a blessing more and more so the older we get. Our days of “bushwhacking” are definitely over (and wouldn’t be a good idea in Florida anyway). Haw Creek looks like a lovely wetlands walk. Limpkins *always* remind me to be grateful to my blog friends as the first time I saw them I couldn’t figure out what they were and several people kindly helped. That was eleven or twelve years ago when we were new to this part of the country."
DeleteHi Sallie, I agree, the boardwalks are easy walking. No tree roots to trip over.. The Limpkins are interesting birds, their calls are crazy sounds.
Thanks so much for the comment and visit.
Enjoy your day, have a great week!

I enjoy environments like this (not that we have any such in Scotland, but down under we have plenty) - I was not aware of the Wood Stork until this post - impressive bird! YAM xx

ReplyDelete"Another great find in Florida! Awesome Limpkin shot! That long boardwalk reminds me of one I walked, the Corkscrew Swamp near Naples....I saw a Barred Owl, sleeping on a limb right over my head.
DeleteA rare Black Guillemot was spotted on Saturday down at the coast here and wouldn't you know my van is still in the shop!!"
Hello Sondra, I enjoyed a few visits to Corkscrew too, but I missed seeing the Owl. That would be awesome. I hope you get your van back soon. Thanks for the comment and visit. Have a great day and new week ahead.

ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, I've been to those other two parks with boardwalks, but not Haw Creek. Beautiful. Then I thought how we have a Haw Creek here in NC. And then (this is how I go off on tangents all the time) I thought of how drivers of horses would say gee and haw, and maybe those directions had something to do with how these creeks got those names. Gee is right, and Haw is left from the drivers position...so that led my brain to thinking of how we have roads here in Black Mountain called North Fork, Left Fork, and Right Fork. They refer to a small river that these roads run along. And I'm familiar with many other same-named places in the countryside, but I'll stop here!

Delete"I am originally from coastal NC and we have these type of marshland parks and I miss them so much. Now, come summer when the mosquitoes are in full force it is not the place to take a walk let me tell ya. LOL but nice in the winter aka cooler weather. I was recently in Florida visiting. The state has so much to offer.Dawn aka Spatulas On Parade"

Deletea perfect visual of the sentiment i shared yesterday!!! usually in florida, the birds are tame, use to people!! regardless, you captured some really good images...i enjoyed seeing the stork and the limpkin as we don't see them here!!
ReplyDeletethis looks like a great spot, i like when they have boardwalks like this one does!!
Thanks Debbie! I always appreciate your visits and comments. Have a great day!

ReplyDeleteThe wood stork is a cool looking bird, thanks for the comment. Have a great day!
DeleteYou saw some beautiful birds on your trip to Florida. This reminds me of the places we visited. I've never seen wildlife like that down in Florida. Thank you so much for your comment about the swans in my latest post. You made me go back to square one and refresh my memory which was which, and these particular swans were actually the Mute ones. I really appreciated your help Eileen. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteHello Debbie, Thank You! I am glad to help when I can, I am not always right though! Have a happy day!
DeleteThis looks like a beautiful and natural park to visit and of course, preserving it clean is necessary and everyone should work with conscious when visiting natural parks like this! Nice photos
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeevan! It is a pretty park, I wish people would pack out their trash. It is a shame to seeing plastic bottles floating in the water. Enjoy your day!
DeleteWhat a beautiful park! I guess it's the kid in me, but I can't resist walking on bridges or wooden walkways. You got some nice wildlife shots too.
ReplyDeleteAll that green is looking really good about now!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for those boardwalks! Such an interesting bird.
ReplyDeleteMe encantan estos paseos. El parque está precioso con esos puentes de madera. Naturaleza pura Eileen. Fotos muy lindas.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
So many different birds in Florida than here---vegetation is different too. Thank you for the nice jaunt
ReplyDeleteMB
What nice boardwalks in this park and such a beautiful tropical look to it! Water bottles are a problem here, too. I've seen many left behind by hikers--very sad.
ReplyDeleteThe Limpkin is very cute! Did you see many alligators? How about snakes? I'm not fond of either - lol.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, it kind of looks like a scary place to me. How close are the boardwalks to the water? I'm sure if it were really dangerous, there would be warnings. Or maybe not opened to the public at all. Interesting birds.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Andrea
Um lugar de grande beleza, com uma vegetação bem exuberante!... Grata por partilhar!
ReplyDeleteSempre um prazer viajar através das suas belas fotos, Eileen!
