Saturday's Critters #316

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

I had this post ready to go in case I was not home from our trip.  I decided to keep it, next week I will share birds and critters seen on our trip to South Carolina and Florida.

This bird below is a reason why sometimes my back yard birds disappear.  I am pretty sure it is a Cooper's Hawk.  It was sitting on the fence just below the spot I hang the deck bird feeders.  Luckily I looked outside before hanging out my feeders that morning.

It was hard to focus on the hawk, through my window and the deck railing to where the hawk was sitting on the fence.  I think I managed a few good photos for the id.

I took these photos from my dining room window, the hawk sat on the fence for quite a while before finally moving away.

I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments !

Here is a list of my linky parties;

Also visit:  I'd-Rather-B-Birdin. Thanks to the host Anni.

  4. HAPPY NEW YEAR Eileen. Such a gorgeous looking bird. Yes he must eat like any other animal but hopefully not at your bird table!!!

  5. Beautiful hawk. It is probably waiting for you to hang out the feeder or catch one of the birds.

  8. Good morning Eileen. It's always mixed feeling when a hawk comes to call. If it wasn't at your feeders it would be elsewhere where it would hunt just the same and out of your sight. It's the way of nature where all must eat to survive and flourish by way of a natural balance. You do right though to limit the ease with which the hawk is able to take your birds.

    1. Hi Phil, I understand the hawk has a right to eat. I just prefer the hawk to eat in my neighbors yard rather than my yard. I am not squeemish, I just like to keep "my" yard birds safe. Thanks for the comment and visit. Enjoy your weekend.

  13. A happy and healthy 2020 to you Eileen.
I'm sure that hawk would scare smaller birds! We had a dove nesting in our lemon tree, the baby just flew out of the nest 2 or 3 days ago, and recently had a crow in the backyard peering up at the trees looking for nests! Luckily that one was well hidden.

    1. Hello, I guess those crows ravish the nest and eggs. I am glad the dove's nest was safe. Happy New Year to you and yours! Thanks for the visit and comment.

  14. I am always very happy to have a bird of prey visit. Some people seem quite put off if a hawk takes a songbird from their yard, somehow not wanting the hawk to secure its food, and having happily laid out the breakfast table for the raptor.

    1. Hello, David! I do not mind the Hawk eating, I wish it would take one of the many squirrels I have in my yard. On this day, I saw the hawk before putting out the bird seed. I waited for the Hawk to leave before serving breakfast to my yard birds. Thanks for the comment, enjoy your day!

  16. Hawks have to eat too. I think they prefer birds to squirrels. In fact I once saw a Cooper's Hawk chase a squirrel and the squirrel actually confronted it and it gave up the chase. Happy New Year!

    1. Hi Ken, I guess the squirrels can rest easily. They are not dinner for the Hawks. My birds seem to know when a hawk is near, they all hide until it is safe to come out. Thanks for the comment, enjoy your weekend!

  17. It's all part of the grand design of nature, Eileen. We must observe keenly, appreciate beauty wherever it resides and be grateful for each of the pleasant hours we spend on this earth.

  20. I watch a hawk fly overhead here. I haven’t been able to identify it yet. That one is a beautiful creature but such a threat to the small birds.

  22. Great photos! We occasionally get hawks, but they don't stay around long enough for pictures.

  23. He looks like he's keeping a keen eye on the feeders! We have so many hawks here in Florida and I'm sure they eat all kinds of things that I don't know about. We see them eat frogs sometimes at the marsh. love your photos! Enjoy your weekend!

  24. A look of determination for sure. I hear the red tails here, but rarely get to see one up close. Happy Day.

    1. Hi Debbie, I was glad not to see the hawk grab one of my birds. I is 50° and cloudy and showers. It seems whenever we have warm temps it is cloudy and rainy. I would like to see the sunshine. Thanks and Enjoy your day!

  26. Some critters like the Cooper's hawk know how to take advantage of feeders we put out for other critters.

  27. I saw a hawk-like bird from quite a distance this morning. I know it was some kind of raptor because of its size and that it was perched high in a tree just surveying the territory below. If it had been in a closer tree I might have thought a crow...anyway, I'm always thrilled with animals which have skills so much better than my own. Their eyesight is amazing!

  30. I'm always torn about the Hawk...it is a beautiful bird...but if they decide to hang out at my house, they usually start pulling my purple martin babies out of their boxes. I guess it is the cycle of life.
Have a blessed day! I've missed linking up with you.

  36. Oh, I so love hawks...I would be thrilled to have him come and stay. And there is one in the neighborhood sometimes...

  43. Enjoyed seeing your hawk through the fence. It is a beautiful bird but I understand to keep the smaller birds safe while he's visiting :) Enjoy your week Eileen.

  44. Hi Eileen! You're right about the Hawk. I don't really like to see them either, but they're around. And as beautiful as the owls are, they also will take out the smaller birds at times too. I hate all of that, but respect the food chain, that I'm glad I'm at the top of.

Take care, and have a good week!

  45. Hi Eileen!

  46. A few years ago, we had a hawk (I think it was a Red Tailed Hawk) that used to fly down to our picnic table and then groom himself!
