Happy Thankful Thursday

 Happy Thankful Thursday

It is hard to believe March is only a few days away.  On March 8th we spring forward an hour and it is only 21 days till spring. I am looking forward to more daylight, YAY!

Just a heads up, any replies will be done on my blog.  I am trying to cut back on emails and computer time.  Thank you for your comments on my last post, they are much appreciated.

One day I was looking out the window to see a cute Carolina Chickadee fussing at 2 Eastern Bluebirds.  They were arguing about who owned the birdhouse.  I am not sure who won, I am not always looking out to watch took over the house.

While the Bluebirds were checking out the house, the Chickadee walked around the ledge fussing.  This house made by my son has 4 sections, like a condo.

Feb 20th, while taking a walk on our local fire road I noticed the GB Herons have returned to the nest. I think this is one of the earliest times I have seen 2 Great Blue Herons on their nest in our neighborhood.

I am thankful to for each year more herons return to our neighborhood  to nest.  The morning temperature is like 18-19°.  We go from the teens in the morning to temp in the mid 50's during the day.

Feb 20th, 2 Great Blue Herons flying over the house and to their nest across from our driveway.

While I was filling up my bird feeders I watched this flock of blackbirds flying over. The line of birds must have gone on for miles. The birds look like tiny black specks below with some tiny white clouds.

I tried to zoom in on the, but they were too high in the sky to make out what kind of bird. Most likely Starlings  and Grackles.

I am thankful for the variety of books available as ebooks from my library.

These are some of the books I read last week:
Pardonable Lies ( Maisie Dobbs # 3) by Jacqueline Winspear
Messenger of Truth (Maisie Dobbs #4) by Jacqueline Winspear
Find Her (DD Warren series #8) Lisa Gardner
The Body in the library (Miss Marple #3) Agatha Christie
Look for Me ( DD Warren # 9 ) Lisa Gardner
I may skip around reading different authors but I like to read the series in order.

I am always thankful for your visit and comments.
Live simple and be happy!  😊

  4. Nice bird photos. Those bluebirds are beautiful. You're lucky to have Great Blue Herons nesting near your house, so you can get photos of them. That line of black birds flying along was impressive.

As an FYI with regard to ebooks: I don't know if you know it, but Amazon offers free kindle books to read. The selections change over time, but they always have a few for $0.00. You don't need a kindle to read them: you can read them online while you're logged into your Amazon account, which is free to create, if you don't have one already. Another good resource for ebooks that are in the public domain and therefore free to read are links like https://www.gutenberg.org/

  9. I hope the birds will share your condo....my Martin houses normally get blue birds and Great Crested Flycatcher nesting...
It must be so nice to watch the herons go through the nesting and rearing of the young. I have to confess I don't have the patience to read books much anymore! I used to go thru volumes of reading material...but when I ended up with bifocals it seemed to take the enjoyment out of the experience for me. I do enjoy books on tape sometimes though. We have SUN today finally.

Love your book choices. I like to read them in order too although just read a Louse penny book and had skipped two. I just got those two to now read and fill in the blanks.

  18. Those elusive herons, so hard to see even with your helpful outline. Ebooks, I do like paper ones, but the E reader availability and variety is huge, and not so heavy to hold if you like to read on the bed, or in bed at night.

  28. I love seeing great blue herons. I don’t know why, part of it is maybe that even I can identify them. They seem to be everywhere. I’ve seen them in the pastures of western Oklahoma and hanging out on the Gulf Coast.

I love how much reading you do. One goal of mine when I retire is to read a lot more. I also appreciate your attempt to cut down on online time. I love reading blogs and social media but it is easy to go overboard.

I also love your positive outlook. And thank you for the kind words for my brother.
