Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
February 29th, leap year, I read about the Leap of Kindness Day. Can we all do one random act of kindness today, on this extra day February 2020?
Be the reason someone smiles today! 😊
I am wondering how much can this Blue Jay fit in his mouth. My yard birds love these little peanut suet balls. They sell them at Walmart, Home Depot, Tractor Supply and other bird supply stores.
On Feb 25th I saw my FOY Pine Warbler at my suet feeder. I did hear one the day before in my front yard. I will try to get a better photo, this photo only shows his back.
This squirrel has a bit of reddish fur, I am wondering if it was hurt in this spot and the fur grew back a different color?
Here is linky:
Thanks to all my visitors and for all the wonderful comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their post.

Hello,
what a pretty bird the Blue Jay! Love the sequence of shots.
Sure we all can make an act of kindness: I will be certainly kind to my elderly mother for instance.
Wishing you a sunshine weekend!
Its interesting the see the different animals feeding themselves.
...that noisy Jay sure has his mouth filled! Thanks Eileen for hosting, enjoy your week end.
Hi Eileen - always a pleasure to see your Saturday Critters - I saw two heron feeding out in the field yesterday and several mallards who are paired up in the deep ditches along our back roads and two large groups of snow geese feeding out in the fields on opposite sides of the road.
Joy

What a lovely blue jay that is, Eileen! Have a great new week.
A random act of kindness is a good idea every day, Eileen. Much more so on Leap day. Thanks for hosting.
Fantastic Jay photos! They love their sunflower seeds and peanuts!
It's a lovely sentiment. I'm not leaving the house today, though! It's - 17 C.!
Thanks for hosting. Have a great one.
I think that squirrel is beautiful. Maybe it is somehow related to our red ones :)
I miss the blue jay. It was an interesting bird :) Always tried to steel our food. :)
Have a nice seek.
Hello Eileen,
What a wonderful bird is this.
Really great how you've could photograph him. The first shot is so nice with the food in its beak.
Best regards,
Marco
Hello Eileen. If Pine Warblers are about, does that mean that spring is around the corner too. I hope so for all of us. I hope you have a good stash of those peanut/suet balls because it looks like the jays snaffle them in double quick time. Happy Weekend and thanks for the link.
If I laid out food like that the squirrels would be on it in an instant!
Bluejays can be very greedy, and that one sure is. Lovely to see a pine warbler, I'm sure it will return again and pose for a lovely photo
i don't know what FOY stands for? my bluejays go crazy when i put peanuts out for them, yours look just like mine, crazy!!
i don't know about the squirrel, you should name him/her, it will be easy to identify now during visits!!
have a great weekend eileen, many thanks for hosting!!
We see variations in some of the squirrels here! He's a cutie and you'll know him when he comes around! Love seeing the Blue Jay enjoying his snack! lol Have a great weekend!
hi eileen, i spent a few minutes on google: Over time, infected squirrels' immune systems respond and fight off the diseases. The hair grows back, and the squirrels recover without any long-term damage. Most squirrel hair loss is caused by fungal diseases.
blue jays are almost as big a piglet as squirrels. the squirrels and jays fight each other for whole peanuts if we throw them out at the park. the jays dive on the squirrels to steal their nuts. this one sure has a mouthful..
Fantastic feathered and furry friends macro shots!
Happy Moments to You,

That little blue jay has a big mouth haha...cute pictures 🙂
Yes, I've watched blue jays fill the pouch and it's amazing how many sunflowers seeds can be put in the pouch.
Hi Debbie, FOY is a birder's acronym for "First of the Year" bird. This was my first time seeing the Pine Warbler, since last fall. The Jays do love the peanuts, not sure why the the local stores have a shortage of salt free peanuts in the shell. I buy them and the suet nuggets, which all the birds love. Thanks so much, enjoy your day!
Thanks Nick! Enjoy your new week!
Thanks for the comment Nick, have a great day!
Thank you Brian! Enjoy your weekend!
Thanks Jenn! Happy weekend to you!
Thanks Monica, have a great weekend!
Thanks Marco! Have a happy weekend!
Hello Phil, the Jays are quick and piggies. They have to quick before the squirrel eats everything, lol.
Thanks, wishing you a great weekend!
Hello, David. Sometimes I wait to put out the food till I see the Jays. Or the squirrels will eat everything. Thanks, enjoy your weekend!
Hello Eileen,
Beautiful photos! The Blue Jay is always my favoritebird. The Squirrels are very cute too.
Happy weekend!
Thanks Linda! I hope the Pine Warbler is still around. Enjoy your weekend!
Thanks Diane! Yes, this squirrel will be easy to recognize. I hope your day and weekend are great.
Thanks for the information on the squirrel. I think this squirrel is recovering well. he is eating well too.
LOL, yes they can be piggies. Thanks for the visit and comment. I hope your day is great!
Thanks Carol! Enjoy your weekend!
Hi Red, it is amazing how much they can fit in there. Have a great weekend!

I haven't seen many Blue Jays lately although I have heard them. Thanks for showing us these great pics.
Oh thank you Eileen!
Glad to enter my rogue cattle photos into your Critters post this week, Eileen! We were very surprised to see them walking along the road.
Cute
Great photos of the bluejay.
Thanks for hosting Eileen.
~Anni
I do see different colouration in the tail too, so the squirrel's colours might be natural.
Very nice. I lover the squirrel !
The blue jays do not stay here as much as they used to...they are such a pretty color of blue.
I always try not to take photos of people when they are eating but it is a fun look on a bird. Your Blue Jay is so beautiful. Happy March!

I haven't tried suet balls. I go through a lot of suet cakes though.

Thank you for stopping by & linking up with us birders at I'd Rather B Birdin this weekend!
I love the Leap f Kindness idea!
Love the greedy Jay, so cute. One squirrel jumped the 15 ft space from the tree to one of my feeders, he only succeeded in making it fall to the ground where the dogs ate the seed all day! NO wonder their diets are not working. So point is, your squirrel may have made a similar attempt and failed!
Lovely capture on birds and squirrel! I too wonder how much the blue jay would sent inside picking through the little beak
Have a nice week and month ahead.
Cheers
Nice shots. I get those suet balls and have a feeder to put them in. I didn't think about just scattering them about

This time of year, I love the color of the Blue Jays, but they sure are loud, obnoxious, and don't share, do they? The price we pay to enjoy their beauty! :-) We've had a lot of Cardinals around this past week, and this morning all is quiet at the feeders. I guess it's because of the hawks.
Enjoy your week, the weather after the rain is supposed to be warm as the week - Last year on this very date, we had snow. Crazy?!
Boy, that blue jay is really hawking it down! I've never seen a bird hold so much in hismouth!
Haha! That's quite a mouthful. Lovely shots!
I always enjoy your critter/bird shots, Eileen.
Lovely to see all of the birds, but it was good to see the squirrel too … certainly unusual colouring.
All the best Jan
Imagens absolutamente encantadoras! Adorei o esquilo, em especial... porque também não se costumam encontrar por estes lados...
Beijinhos!
Ana
