Happy Monday and a happy March!
I hope everyone is doing well, Spring is officially March 20th. Only a few weeks away, this Sunday we willing be springing forward an hour. I like the longer daylight. I do wish they would stop this changing of the clocks. The last frost can be up till mid May, we usually look for hardy plants for our zone 6.
"Despite the forecast, live like it's Spring."
These are images from the last week of February, we took another walk on the local fire road, birds seen on my deck and the Great Blue Herons perched/hiding in the pine trees. The weather has been ranging from the 50's down to the teens at night.
Scenes from our local fire road walk below, a neighbor has a black bear cut-out on their property, the fire road, our lake, another view of the fire road and pine trees and a feather I found on the trail.
This trail to the lake is 1.8 miles round trip from our house. Not a long walk but the views are great.
The birds seen from my dining room window, on the deck a Northern Cardinal, Tufted Titmouse and a squirrel, the Mourning Doves were on top a swing in our yard.
These two Mourning Doves were perched on top of a swing we have in our yard, they are sweet birds.
On Feb 27 we had high winds and rain, I am hoping the herons and their nest are ok. The trees were swinging back and forth in the winds. The herons photos below are taken from my kitchen window and deck on Feb 26th.
I am not sure how many herons and nest we have here in our neighborhood, but I am seeing more each day.

I love the blue herons. We have one that hangs around our neighborhood pond. It would be neat to see a nest. Your nature walk looks pretty by the lake. Happy Monday.

DeleteTão lindo! Bom iniciar a semana assim! beijos, linda semana, chica
ReplyDeleteThank you Chica! Enjoy your day, wishing you a great new week!
DeleteYou've got great walking trails right out your door! The herons are beautiful, you must live right near the water. We see them down at Stella (waterfront cottage) and occasionally even up here on the farm flying over, even though up here we are a few miles from the shore. Not as up close as you though!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen! We are only a short walk to the lake/reservoir. The heron rookery has been here for years now, each year more come. Happy March, have a great day and new week!
DeleteI love this gray heron, too. I would like to see this bird catch fish.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit and comment! Happy March, have a great day and new week!
DeleteI saw Great Blue Herons (they are not Grey Herons as noted in the comment above) in two locations here yesterday, so I will go and check the local heronry to see if there is any activity there yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks David! Happy birding, enjoy your day!
DeleteVERY NICE AND FINE IMAGES... CHEERS
ReplyDeleteThanks Ana! Happy March, have a great day and new week!
DeleteLiving near herons must be fascinating. They are so beautiful. We are several miles from the river where we sometimes see them. Your bird feeder is getting good birds too.

ReplyDeleteMarch arrives, the sun grows warmer and the birdies sing at the very tops of their warbles... a time of deep breathing and aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhing. &*> YAM xx
Thanks, Yam! Happy March, have a great day and new week!
DeleteSpring may be on the way, but all these critters look cold.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Happy March, have a great day and new week!
DeleteBeautiful birds. Had to laugh because I thought it was a real bear. (I do wonder why someone would post a cutout bear in their yard.) Great to see the herons back. I had a robin sitting for 15 min. on a branch outside my window. No others were around, so maybe he was waiting to find out where they were.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, I have a metal moose in my yard. Just for decoration! Thanks for the comment. Happy March, have a great day and new week!
Deleteyou would love the rookery at Jungle Gardens, out in the middle of the lake, full of cranes and other birds like them. I would love walking on your fire lane, I prefer dirt not wood or paved paths, which is what they did here.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandra, I would like to visit the Jungle Garden, sounds nice! Thanks for visiting. Happy March, have a great day and new week!

ReplyDeleteRose, thanks for the visit and comment! I hope your day is great!
DeleteEileen - fabulous photos, as always. There are certainly people here who seem to think it's Spring - flip flops and shorts are out, despite our temperatures in the 40s. Not for me! I am curious about the black bear cut out - is it to scare something (or someone) off? Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!
ReplyDeleteHi Angie, The bear is just for decoration. Thanks for the visit and comment! I hope your day is great!
DeleteWow - how nice to see herons so close! A beautiful place to walk and see all the pretty scenes and birds. I'm looking forward to an extra hour of daylight, too. x Karen

DeleteGood afternoon Eileen, It's so funny this is exactly what I've been doing- living like it's truly spring! It's a mindset that makes sense to me. Looking on the bright side and the temperatures have been better and our snow is sinking bit by bit! Hooray! Enjoy your day and week ahead.

All the best Jan
Thanks Jan! Have a happy day!
DeleteBeautiful, beautiful photos, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday!
Hello Veronica! Thanks for the visit, enjoy your day!
DeleteFrom your kitchen window, oh wow! I like that. Outside our kitchen window, I may see a squirrel or a feral cat go zipping along the top of the fence, which does excite me no end. :-) I love what you did with your first mosaic, putting your feather photo as the end piece. The photo collage sparks wonder and imagination.
ReplyDeleteSusie, thanks so much for the comment. I hope your day is great!
Deletewe have had much of the same weather, it has been very windy here, i often wonder how those nests survive!! awesome images today, that sure is a brightly colored cardinal. nice that you are getting out for walks!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debbie! I do worry about the wind and these birds being so high in the treetops. I appreciate your visit and comment. Have a great day!
DeleteThe Blue Herron and nest are amazing and even more so because they are right outside your kitchen window! Your late winter hike looks like it was wonderful too.The woodland path portrays a feeling of peaceful and tranquility.
ReplyDeleteHello and thanks for the comment. Enjoy your day!
DeleteTufted Titmouse is so bright and you are so blessed to be able to sight various birds from your home. We are experiencing the joys of spring right now :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment. I can not find a blog in your name? Have a great day!
DeleteMy corner of the world this week is hot and full of sights, sounds and smells. An urban jungle near the ocean: Miami.
ReplyDeleteHello Sharon, I hope you are enjoying Miami. I do not like cities, but I do enjoy the beaches and all the parks in that area. Thanks and enjoy your day!
DeleteYou are fortunate to live among such beautiful nature scenes and paths, Eileen. Nature is needed more than ever in this worrisome world. We are having a week of warmer spring like weather here right now, but I know that that can change quickly. I do like the longer day light hours of daylight savings time, so I'm looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteHello Pat, yes I am lucky to live so close to the lake and trails. Our weather is crazy, one day it is 60's then in the 20's. We may even have some snow tomorrow night. Thanks for the comment, enjoy your day!
DeleteI feed the birds, squirrels and deer daily. But wow a bear! We had plenty of those when we lived in the mountains of NC years ago. Lovely view.
ReplyDeleteDawn aka Spatulas On Parade
Thank you Dawn! Have a happy day!
DeleteThat's really good advice. We went out for an early walk before the rain arrives this afternoon. Got to get out when you can this time of year. We are missing those sunny, warm Arizona days now that we are back home on a break. - Margy
Adorei as fotos! Beijinhos
Ana
I hope that we will also have a nice spring in the Netherlands. Everyone is gradually tired of the heavy rain and wind. So I want to see flowers and insects :-)
