Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
Before the lock down in early March, we took trip to Ocean City Maryland. During our getaway we visited the Assateague Island National Seashore and the Assateague Md State Park. Hubby and I both have senior passes for both parks which is nice, we no longer have to make sure we have exact change.
We walked the beaches, the boardwalk trails and drove around the park looking for birds and the Assateague ponies.
The Maryland Assateague Island ponies are owned by the national park, they are kept separate from the Chincotegue Island Virginia ponies. Around 150 ponies are owned by the Chincoteague Island Volunteer Fire Company in Chincoteague Island Virginia. Some of these ponies are auctioned off each year.
Below a few Killdeer, Northern Gannet over the ocean, bottom right are some of the Common Loons.
The Common Loons seemed to be the most common bird seen from the beach.
I was able to find a few Northern Gannets far out in the ocean, it is fun to watch them dive.
The Killdeer were seen and heard on the Assateague Island beach.
Traffic back up from the Assateague ponies crossing the street.
Thanks to all my visitors and for all the wonderful comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their post.

ps...can you fix my name in the line up, ly=It, sorry...slopping typing with no checking!!!
Hi Debbie, the ponies are mostly free, to roam anywhere they want on the islands. They can run on the beach and into the water if they want. There is ocean or bay water separating the two islands Assateague and Chincoteague. They do herd up the ponies to have their vet check up. I do love the Loons and the sweet Killdeer. Thanks, I appreciate the comment! Stay safe and healthy! Have a great weekend!
DeleteWhat a wonderful trip you've shared! I especially enjoyed seeing the gannets!! Thanks so much for hosting this week, as always.

ReplyDeleteThanks Nick, I appreciate the comment! Stay safe and healthy! Have a great weekend!
DeleteI would love to see the ponies and walk those beaches... now that there is zero traffic, our beaches are closed, public boat ramps and parks are closed. but we can walk the streets.. sweet ponies.. we get backed up at duck crossing here a lot. in fact had to wait with the DOG while a mother mallard and her baby strolled across in front of us. today we rescued a raccoon trapped in a trashcan... who knows what is next.
ReplyDeleteHello, Sandra
DeleteYou a nice to help the raccoon out of the trash can. I would have loved to see the ducklings.
I was glad we went to see the ponies before all these closures and lock downs. The ponies are cool to see, pretty horses. Thanks, I appreciate the comment! Stay safe and healthy! Have a great weekend!

I love the ponies, they are tremendous.
ReplyDeleteI can see the Maryland ponies asking the Virginia ponies, "You think you're better than me?" like something out of Goodfellas. OMG, they meander out into traffic, reminds me of cows. It took me so long to realize that killdeer were birds, lol. Very pretty scenery, Eileen, it must have felt wonderful to see and smell the ocean.
ReplyDeleteHello Jeanna
DeleteYes, these horses roam free all around the island, they can stand in the roads as long as they please. The speed limit is low and I hope everyone drives safely. The Killdeer are adorable birds with a sweet sound. Thank you for the comment. Enjoy your day!
Hello Eileen! What a lovely visit you had before your lock down. We got ours last night at midnight. I'm still working although I have this weekend and five days of vacation (should have been in Alabama scheduled a long time ago) but it is what it is at the moment. I just pray we get a hold on this soon, so we can return to normalcy. Thanks for sharing critter joy, and letting us post too!

Those ponies look pretty chill - they obviously have a good life there! Great to get a entry pass to the parks - we are looking forward to a bus pass!!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see the ponies in your post …
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Imagens espectaculares!
Beijinhos! Bom domingo!
