Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
Images are from various days in June, walks with hubby and the dogs. We took a walk at the nearby Hemlock Gorge, and a visit to the York Pa Great Egret and Black-crowned Night Heron rookery.
Click on photos for larger viewing.
1. June 10th, on this day my hubby and I took a walk at the local Hemlock Gorge, it is part of the Gunpowder State Park. In the summer months I can usually always find a Louisiana Waterthrush on the rocky area of the Gunpowder River. A Common Yellowthroat was fussing at us, as we walked along the trail. Other birds seen and heard, Eastern Phoebe, Gray Catbird, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Ovenbird and Eastern Wood Pewee.
2. The Louisiana Waterthrush can always be found along the Gunpowder River at Hemock Gorge. This bird has what I call the white eyebrow and pink legs.
3. A female Common Yellowthroat Warbler was fussing at us as we walked along the trail. This bird is olive-brown above with a yellow throat.
4. June 12th, our local fire road walk with the grand -dogs to the lake, lots of Canada Geese. Back at home in our yard, is the female and male Eastern Bluebird and the Ruby-throated Hummingbird on the feeder.
5. June 14th, backyard blooms, a Fritillary Butterfly with a Bumble Bee in the Bee Balm and the Fritillary Butterfly on the Lantana.
6. June 15th, the following photos are from a visit to the York Pa rookery. Great Egrets and the Black-crowned Night Herons. We saw lots of Great Egrets, Black-crowned Night Herons, Mallard Ducks and Canada Geese.
7. A Great Egret nest high in the pine tree.
8. Another pair of Great Egrets on their nest.
9. Adult Black-crowned Night Heron near their nest.
10. A juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron near the nest.
11. The Great Egret chicks seemed to be different ages, some looking much younger than others.
I hope you enjoyed my critter post. Thank you for sharing your critters and post!

DeleteDifferent from the impression from “gunpowder”, Gunpowder State Park looks so peaceful and comforting with full of wildlife. Large beak of Egret is always impressive. I always wonder Heron or Egret, which has bigger beak.
ReplyDeleteYoko
Yoko

WoW!! what a wonderful post today...awesome captures of the egrets. i have seen so few "babies"/chicks this year and almost zero butterflies. with that said, i have not been on many walks in the wild!! but my yard usually attracts many more butterflies!! have a great weekend eileen, and many thanks for hosting!!

Hello Eileen,:=) What an amazing post this is, ...so many enjoyable images, but the close ups of the Great egrets in their nest high up in the pine tree with the blue sky and greenery of the pine tree almost bring them to life. They are stupendous captures and the baby egrets in different stages of development are really cute.Your back yard images of the Blue bird, butterflies, flowers, and your Grand-dogs just sitting, taking in all that surrounds them, are all lovely. The Warbler, and Water-thrush,geese. and ducklings, and more besides, which I can't remember now were all most pleasurable.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting Eileen, and have a good weekend.
Thank you Sonjia! It does seem weird these tall birds nest so high up in the pine trees. I appreciate your comment and link today. Take care, have a happy weekend.

DeleteHi Eileen
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing the beautiful Eastern Bluebird and the elegant egrets in your photos, along with all the other pretty birds. This summer magpies are the predominant bird that I've been seeing in my backyard. They seems to be chasing the other birds away!
Saturdays are always very busy for me and I often don't get online until the evening, so I'm sorry to connect so late, but I wanted to show the cute chipmunk we saw on a train trip.
Thank you Pat! I appreciate the link and comment. I think the Magpies are pretty birds. Take care, enjoy your day and happy new week ahead.

ReplyDeletegreat captured
Thank you for visiting and for the comment. Take care, wish you a great week ahead.
DeleteI loved this Eileen! I always think I should save your posts for ID purposes -- I wouldn't have known about the Louisiana Water Thrush. It's always so fun to see those big old Egrets perched in the tree branches -- they often don't look like the could support a nest let alone the parent birds. But they always do -- I guess the birds know what they're doing ! (Of course.) Thanks for sharing. Wonderful walks.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sallie! The Egrets nest do not look very sturdy, I guess they know what they are doing.
DeleteThe Louisiana Waterthrush are usually seen around streams, almost like a dipper. Have a great day and happy week ahead.
