Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
I am sharing photos from our overnight getaway to Winchester, Virginia to see the Nature Connects exhibit by Sean Kenney at the Museum of Shenandaoh Valley. We went on Aug 30th, the exhibit was ending on Sept 4th. I first heard about this exhibit on Linda's blog The View from Squirrel Ridge also on Denise's blog An English Girl Rambles2016.blogspot.com/
The outdoor exhibit features Lego Sculptures which were all nature related. Life size critters made from Legos. We walked around the museum's Glen Burnie Gardens to view each one of the Lego Sculptures.
1. Sean Kenney is the artist, who created all these wonderful critters made with Legos.
7. Below is the Sea Turtle hatchling, it is said that just 1 in a 1,000 hatchlings will survive into adulthood. The temperature of the sand determines the gender of the baby sea turtle, the warmer the sand will produce more females. Will climate change and warmer temperature have an effect on genetic diversity?
8. The Ruby-throated Hummingbird sculpture is beautiful, this tiny bird is seen in many gardens including my own. They migrate south for the winter to Central America and Southern Mexico. These tiny birds will remember where they find shelter and nectar and will return each year. I am happy to see these Hummingbirds return to my yard each year.
9. The Zebra travels across the Serengeti with giant herds of Wildebeest and Antelope. The Zebra and Wildebeest will protect and graze together in harmony. The Zebra's stripes are as distinctive as fingerprints.
10. The Wildebeest, are native to Eastern and Southern Africa. They are also known as Gnu, also called wild cattle and they are in the antelope family.
11. The Snow Leopard is found in the Himalayas. They are also in decline, due to threats from humans and habitat loss. These animals are poached for their skin and their bones are used for traditional medicine.
12. The Rhinoceros, is also said to be disappearing, due to illegal hunting and there is a loss of habitat. These animals are found in Africa and Asia.
13. The Coral Reef sculpture was lovely and another favorite. The Coral Reefs are a diverse and valuable ecosystem on earth. They provide shelter to many species of marine life. Pollution, overfishing mining for coral and the warmer ocean temperatures are damaging the reefs. The recent heat wave in Florida is causing the bleaching of the Florida Coral Reef. The marine life depends on healthy coral reefs. The Great Barrier Reef in Australia is the largest coral reef.
14. The Lego Bats were located inside the actual Museum building. The North American Bat is endangered due to a loss of habitat and disease. The bats are very important for insect control and for maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Bats are known to gobble up insects that harm the farmer's crops and reduces pesticide use.
Sean Kenney is a New York based artist and has been creating Lego Sculptures for 15 years. His award winning exhibit has been traveling globally since 2012. He is also the author of 9 children's books.

Thanks for hosting all the critter posts.

Those Lego sculptures by Sean Kenney are amazing.
Dear Eillen,
wonderful! Your post today brings back a lot of memories. When Jana was a little girl, we went to Legoland in Denmark - there were also great figures to see there. But Sean Kenney's are much more realistic and look really great. There are also fond memories of this: the little sea turtle that we accompanied from the egg to the water in Costa Rica; we saw zebras, wildebeests and a rhinoceros in Namibia; a nice novel I read was about a Dodo that had been secretly rescued, we saw snow leopards in the "White Zoo", etc. How sad that so many of these animals are threatened in real life - and how good that the talented artist points this out.
All the best and happy October days

Hello Eileen,
These animals are really beautifully made from Lego bricks.
What a job this must have been.
For me, the polar bear with the cubs are also a favorite.

Hello Eileen,
These Lego figures are so great. The polar bear is probably my favorite among them. I have been to Legoland in Denmark several times, and it is absolutely incredible what can be created with small bricks.

Thank you David, for your link and your comment.
It is amazing to see these Lego sculptures.
Take care, have a wonderful weekend.
Lovely photos of this amazing exhibition, Eileen. The skill of the artist in creating these animals from lego blocks is quite astounding. I am sure the children (and not only!) viewing the exhibition would have enjoyed it and would have learnt much from the signs accompanying the exhibits. I was also pleased to see that the signs are bilingual. There is much opportunity for everyone in the USA to learn to speak Spanish as there are so many native speakers in the population and many an opportunity to converse in Spanish. Thanks for hosting and enjoy the new week.
It is remarkable how much creativity a Lego set can bring … the seahorses and all the creatures were a delight to see.
Thank you Nick, for your link and your comment.
I agree people of all ages can enjoy these Lego Sculptures. The bilingual signs are informative and helpful.

Wonderful! Beautiful! Fantastic! Amazing!
Have a blessed day!
Hello Eileen :=)
WOW! what a great exhibition of Lego sculptures. It must have taken the artist many hours to complete just one of the animal exhibits. Not only do they look stunning, but are instantly recognisable, and the wealth of valuable information about endangered species is something that everyone should be aware of. I wish I could have gone with you! :=)
Thank you for hosting Eileen.
Thank you for a very informative, educational and entertaining post Eileen. It is sad that your narrative about the animals and birds so frequently includes the information that the subect is threatened by extinction, depopulation and/or changes to habitat through man’s greed.
The park is a great educational tool and because of it’s Lego theme I am sure that it does very well as an attraction to young and old alike. Thanks for the link today. Have a lovely weekend.
...Eileen, what a fun display! Thanks fo hosting and sharing these creations. Take care and be well.
Gostei de ver estas belas fotografias.
Um abraço e bom fim-de-semana.

What a beautiful exposition of the artist and he must have made his hobby his work. I like it very much.
What a terrific exhibit, Eileen. I can see why you both enjoyed it -- he has a real knack for capturing these critters in avery realistic way. I bet the kids would like that as much as the adults. (Or maybe the other way around!)
These creations really are amazing! We got to see these at the Arboretum in Asheville a few years ago and I went back and looked at my post to check if it was the same artist and it was. I'll never forget them. So much fun! Love your photos! Hard to pick a favorite but I loved the big animals! Happy Saturday!

these are absolutely AMAZING! stunning art! the artist is so very gifted, they look so real and i would never guess they are made from legos. it is all i could do make a box with them. thanks for sharing, wish i could no stand and stare... my mother would pick the searhorse because she loved seahorses. when she was a child here in Florida they were common in the water here, now they are gone.
These are amazing, Eileen. It blows me away to see these shots.
My initial reaction after viewing this post was to use the word “amazing” … but that word is so overused today that I’m going to go with “exceptional.” The Lego Sculptures are truly fascinating. I haven’t seen anything quite like this before, and maybe that’s because I just wasn’t paying attention, but thank you Eileen for going, taking all the photos, and sharing. I can’t begin to say which sculpture is my favorite, but, like you, I’m leaning toward the polar bears. By the way, thanks for including the signs. Thanks again for a great Saturday’s Critters. Hope you and yours have a happy weekend and week ahead. John
Good morning, Eileen I'm so happy I didn't miss this fabulous post of all these delightful Lego critters! Unbelievable as I'm a huge Lego fan as are all my kiddos and their children, and I know how much time just from the sets and creations we've built so this is incredible! I know the word is used a lot but these sculptures were amazing. It is nice that signs included how many hours it took to create them and how many Legos were needed to create each sculpture, also the signs alerted people how each animal is endangered or threatened. Take care, have a wonderful weekend.

That is an amazing exhibit. I kind of wonder how he made those models. Legos are so small. A different way to reach people. We went on vacation to Legoland in California several years ago and it was amazing all the life size things that were built using Legos.
Thank you for hosting!
It is wonderful to see this exhibit through your camera lens Eileen, and am very happy you got to see the exhibit. I never did get back to see the ones I missed before it ended, so it is a treat to see those in the series. You took fantastic photos. Thanks so much and have a great weekend!
