Woodpeckers are one of my many favorite bird species. I have seen many around my neighborhood, state and the country.
The Red-headed Woodpecker
The Arizona Woodpecker
The female Red-bellied Woodpecker seen on my deck railing.
The Hairy Woodpecker, is a bigger bird with a larger size beak.
Incoming a Red-bellied Woodpecker with a Downy Woodpecker on the feeder.
The Northern Flicker, looks pretty with it's speckled chest.

Great series of photos of all the different woodpecker species.
The red-headed woodpecker is my favorite.
This species isn't native to the Netherlands, only the lesser spotted woodpecker, great spotted woodpecker, black woodpecker, and green woodpecker are found here.

In our neighborhood, I most often encounter the Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major). Apparently, one also visits our neighbors' garden, but unfortunately not ours. (At least, we haven't seen it yet. However, this winter, for the first time, a Common Buzzard has been perched almost daily in the birch tree at the end of our property... It has a good view of the adjacent fields from there.) Last Monday, we heard and saw a Middle Spotted Woodpecker (Leiopicus medius) – a rather rare woodpecker species that only finds suitable habitat in a few areas – but unfortunately, my camera finger was too slow... I was very pleased with your woodpecker photos – they show the great diversity of this family. We also saw a few North American woodpeckers with David and Miriam.

I love all your woodpeckers. They are handsome birds. We get a few every now and then but not very often. Sometimes I see them when I am out hiking, I hear them more then I see them, more accurately.
