I am linking up with Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday .
August 4, 2013
I am sharing some of the birds and scenes from our Friday visit to Bombay Hook NWR . I had an extra day off work and hubby and I decided on a daytrip to the wildlife refuge. The weather was perfect, sunny and the humidity was gone.
Above the Great Blue Herons and also nearby the Least Bittern.Swallowtail butterflies and wild pink hibiscus.
More scenes from Bombay Hook wildlife refuge..the Egret trees, wild white hibiscus, juvenile Terns, American Avocets, Great Egret and a Glossy Ibis.
The Green Heron is one of my favorite herons, so I was really happy to watching this one catch his lunch. Visiting the national wildlife refuges and the national parks is something hubby and I love to do. And Bombay Hook NWR is what I call a half tank away and one of my favorite places to visit.
As always, I hope you enjoy my post and thanks for visiting my blog. I always appreciate your comments.

the egret tree is so cool, but the green heron w/ his catch steals the show. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful birds. The place has great variety of birds.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to see those "egret" trees and all the rest of your lovely photos and nice mosaics this week! Have a good week ahead.
ReplyDeleteFabulous series of photos :) The birds, flowers and butterfly are all beautifully captured!
ReplyDeleteThe Egret Tree is beautiful....like an Easter tree set about with china birds - and the Green Heron looks like it's carved from stone. That's what struck me today - so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely worth a visit if ever in that area!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThe birds are beautiful and what a wonderful trip to go on.
ReplyDeleteIt looks as if you had a perfect day for visiting Bombay Hook. It was nice of the Green Heron to let you capture his fishing skills.
ReplyDeleteIt is always a pleasure to watch your photos ;-)
ReplyDeleteCéline & Philippe
I greatly enjoyed your photo collage Eileen.
ReplyDeleteI visited Bombay Hook last December, and suffice it to say the sights and experience was much different. Yours looks the more pleasant : )
The egret tree looks like big white flowers on the branches and it's a good thing frogs lay so many eggs with the green heron plucking out a big tadpole for lunch.

It's a rare treat to see a green heron or tri color here. Love the egret trees! My hubby would be trying to count them all! What a nice day of bird watching!
ReplyDeleteHubby and I just "discovered" green herons a few weeks back. A pond down the road from us is home to one. It took us a bit of doing to identify him--he was quite shy.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos.
Have a great week, Eileen!
We have lost any sign of heat here and have been told by the weather people that this is it for the rest of the summer. Now if I could just go outside without being bitten by every mosquito in the area. Have a great week. Valerie
ReplyDeleteSo very pretty. Love the tree with all the egrets!! Great photo.
ReplyDeleteI don't know the green heron. wonderful that your husband enjoys taking walks and exploring wildlife refuges as well. Mine enjoys the walk but not the stopping and being quiet and shooting photos.
ReplyDeleteYou got some very nice shots!!Really like the green heron!
Hi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteThe Egret tree looks like a giant pussy willow, with the birds on its tips! Gorgeous images, as always of the beauty of wildlife and nature!
Poppy
LOVE these! But as Tex said above, the Green Heron stole the whole show! Great shots of him.
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, I have had a lovely visit to your blog today - amazing bird photos. My favorite birds are herons, we have a rookery about a mile from where we live so there are frequent sightings. I am following on on Bloglovin and GFC so I remember to visit again.

ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful photos you've shared. The egret tree is stunning. I've never heard of a green heron, and to capture that image of the bird with his dinner in his beak is amazing!
ReplyDeleteToday we were out on a friend's boat and saw a bald eagle nest and one parent bringing food to the young in the nest.
Have a great week, Eileen.
Thanks for these beautiful birds!
ReplyDeleteI love your Green Heron, too Eileen. Great look at your birds again. Thanks. Greetings, Jo
ReplyDeleteHow lucky you are to have Bombay Hook so close to home, it looks like an amazing place to spend the day. I didn't know that hibiscus grew wild, the small white flowers are so pretty.
