Saturday's Critters #162

Saturday's Critters #162

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.

We visited Pelican Island NWR on 11/11/16, located near Vero Beach Florida. We left early enough in the morning for a stop at Vero Beach to see the sunrise and then it was off for our hike at Pelican Island NWR.

Pelicans flying over the Atlantic Ocean at Vero Beach Florida.

A pretty sunrise at Vero Beach.

A couple of Sanderlings with a Ruddy Turnstone on Vero Beach. The birds almost blend in with the sand and seaweed.

A juvenile Night Heron, my guess is a Black Crowned Night Heron? Do you agree?

A White Pelican and a Cormorant in the distance at Pelican Island NWR.

A Great Blue Heron with a distant Brown Pelican.

A Tricolored Heron seen on the trail at the Pelican Island NWR.

A Great Egret seen on the trail.

The White Ibis were also seen on the trail, some let us walk by others flew off.

There is a memorial for the wildlife refuge system at the Pelican Island NWR

As always thanks for the visits and the nice comments. I also thank everyone who is linking up and sharing their critters.. Happy Saturday, have a great weekend!

Hello,

Beautiful birds and sunrise! White Ibis are so pretty.
Happy Saturday,and enjoy your weekend.

What a lovely spot. Pelicans have always been my favorite---I have no idea why. Certainly not their beauty-it's a face only a mother could love. But they are enjoyable to watch. I'm getting so antsy to get out to Nebraska and see them.....but that's a long time off. They're busy visiting Eileen right now. Teehee!

Love the pelicans riding riding the air currents, skimming the waves.

biebkriebels said...

I like those pelicans, we only see them in a Zoo here. But when I visited Florida long ago, I saw them in the wild there at the beaches, amazing.

Kenneth Cole Schneider said...

Despite their ungainly appearance on the ground, those pelicans are masters of flight. That is a beautiful sunrise! The immature night-herons can be puzzling. Either this one is unusually pale or the photo may be slightly over-exposed, so the contrasting spotted appearance of the Black-crowned vs plain back of Yellow-crowned may not be very evident. Neck length, bill size and shape are again relative, but the bill is rather dark and short and the neck may be described as thin and longer than expected with Black-crowned, so I'll hazard a guess that it is a juvenile Yellow-crowned Night-Heron.

Eileen, such lovely warm and sunny scenes, enjoy your week.

Hootin Anni said...

Eileen....I would say YELLOW CROWNED NIGHT HERON....the juvenile black crowned is much stockier than the yellow.

Here is a comparison jpg link, so you can see them side by side....

Dearest Eileen; Oh My,how GORGEOUS your sunrise photo at Vero Beach! I only can see Pelicans in our city park, well I remember wondered how their wild life would be :-) That's might be the first time I had interest in birds. I really wish to see the Ibis's long beak, haha.
Thank you very much for hosting and have a wonderful new week.
