Birding the Potomac

With this post I am linking up with Mosaic Monday and That's My World Click on these to visit some wonderful blogs.

Yesterday, hubby and I enjoyed a day birding at the Potomac River and C& O canal. We stopped at a few places to check out the birds. First stop was at Hughes Hollow a wildlife management area. We saw a lot of Egrets, GB Herons, Green Herons, and some Little Blue Herons. There were also some Canada Geese and Mallard ducks.

At the next stop called Violettes Lock we walked along the C&O canal. Here along the Potomac River we saw some Cormorants and it was the first time I have ever seen two Kingfishers sitting close to each other. Turtles were sunning themselves on downed trees in the canal.

I am always checking out the wildflowers along my walks and the trails. There were purple flowers that I have not seen before and do not know its name. So if anyone could me id this flower, I would appreciate the help.

Some wild Hibiscus

Thanks for stopping by my blog and thanks to Mary host of Mosaic Monday and

Your mystery flower is not one I'm familiar with Eileen. Enjoyed all the wildlife and flowers you shared this week.

Eileen,

Your flower look at it, the shape! it is a Butterfly Pea. We saw a few today out in the wild, yet slightly different than yours.

Just terrific ... so many great shots of the wildlife. I'm rather taken with that black and blue butterfly in the first mosaic ... how lovely. Also rather like the turtle clambering up the old log!

The wildflowers are beautiful ... ant the river scene is too! Sorry, can't help with the mystery bloom.

What a fantastic day you had, Eileen, to see so much wildlife! Your mosaics make me want to come explore your neck of the woods. And that's a very delicate lilac meadow flower you found... can't help you name it, though.

If I should have seen such many beauties in a day, I must be happier than a pig in mud.

your header photo, the waves are so strong, yet the bird is trying to catch fish. What great determination.

Lovely collage, I see the wild hibiscus standing out. It looks like an okra.

Those collages are just superb - great images in every little cube. I've never seen a wildflower so beautiful as this - sorry but I don't have a clue what it is called as I really only know about UK natives rather than North American ones.

Lovely walk! The purple flower looks like the Butterfly Pea (Clitoria) which is a wild flower here.

Beautiful photos. And I see in your profile you have a Golden Retriever. We adopted our girl almost a year ago, and she has made such a wonderful difference in our lives.

What a wonderful trip you had. Like many of your commenters I too really like the mystery flower - so very pretty.
(I laughed at your description of Sunny lying above your pillows with her paws round your head. No need for central heating when you've got a dog or two to keep you warm!)

You have some of the most interesting walks filled with wildlife and gorgeous flowers. I see some of the others have identified the Butterfly Pea, it is a pretty little flower.
