I am linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes
During our weekend away to Ocean City, Maryland we drove down the coastal highway to the Indian River inlet in Delaware. Hubby was interested in the big waves caused by a storm out in the Atlantic and I was looking for the birds any kind duck or pelagic bird.
The Long-tailed ducks were bobbing up and down with the wave action at the Indian River inlet.
A good view of the tail on the male Long-tailed duck. They are one of the prettier ducks I have seen. The adult male has a white head, tan face and a brown neck patch. The body is white with dark wings.
For some reason these Long-tailed duck especially like being at this inlet.
The waves on the other side of the inlet looked pretty rough. Hard to believe there were some surfers enjoying these big waves.
In flight they have dark underwings on both the male and female. I hope you enjoyed my Long-tailed ducks.

The waves look huge! Makes for a rocky swim for the ducks!
Your fine photos have me wondering how the birds manage to survive that water!
Lovely ocean-bird-scapes!
I certainly enjoyed the Long-tailed ducks.. just beautiful! I have been introduced to so many different ducks over the past week.. these were new to me also and some of the prettiest ever! :) -Tammy

The photo where you can see the long tail is great! So is that big wave.
Great photos of the ducks - and the big waves too!
This is the first time I see this type of duck. And the waves dramatise the photos!
The sea sure looks rough and the inlet a bit churnred up too. They are interesting ducks. Quite different.
Great image series showing :)
I've never seen those ducks before. They're quite beautiful! Great shot of the big waves!
Beautiful, they are splendid aren't they?
By our standards, that's a very large gathering of Long-tailed Ducks. They're always a pleasure to see. Super photos!
Lovely ducks, they are having great time.
You did a marvelous job of capturing both the ducks and the waves. Your photos are excellent.
Great captures of the Long tailed ducks Eileen. Its a wonder they did get sea sick with those big waves.
Great series!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Oh, yes they were quite goodlooking ducks I think! What angry sea with such big waves!
Greetings Pia

Beautiful! They look like penguins!
They are one of the prettier ducks I've seen as well. I don't think we have them here in the west. At least I've never seen one so I found your post most interesting.
Your long tailed duck photos were beautiful! I can't say I've ever seen a duck with a long tail!
These are great birds - its been a long time since I have seen any!
They were a bird I saw in winter in the North Sea.
Cheers and thinks for linking to WBW

Lovely photos. I saw long tailed ducks for the first time recently, they're so beautiful!
I always find it so amazing, and such fun to see birds here in the USA, that we here in KY never get to see, and yet they are right here, somewhere, nearby;') At last a couple of states away, and the Long-tailed Ducks, how cool is that!
