I am linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes
For this weeks wild bird I am featuring the Northern Mockingbird. The Mockingbird is best known for mimicking the songs of other birds and insects. They are usually loud and will mimic songs in rapid succession.
Some information on the Northern Mockingbird, they eat both insects and fruits.
They are medium sized and a long tail. Both males and females look alike. They are mostly grey with some white patches around their wings. They have yellowish eyes and a black beak..
Thanks for stopping by my post and for all the nice comments.

ReplyDeleteA great bird, all in shades of grey.
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
They are year-round residents of these parts. Interesting birds. Very territorial. Not the most beautiful in plumage, but they far make that up with their music. Supreme indeed.
ReplyDeleteLove 'em.
I saw a mockingbird once at a children's playground. I could hear it's weird singing over the noise of all the kids around and couldn't place the sound. I finally saw the bird and took some photos of him and ID'd him when I got home. A special sighting for me. I love the shots you have taken of this particular bird ... he's a beauty. Wendy x
ReplyDeleteYou got some marvelous portraits here. The detail is wonderful.

We saw this bird while in WV on vacation recently and I wasn't sure what it was. Now I have to identify the black and white bird with a long tail that we also saw. Wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteOh..the Mockingbird...I love to see them in flight with their grey, black and white wing and tail patterns. There is one here that sings at night. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen-what wonderful birds.
ReplyDeleteI haven't "seen" one, but I'm sure I've heard one. You got some nice shots.
Enjoy the day
Lovely pictures -- these birds sing our morning wake-up alarm all spring long here in Florida. And I love that!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images of the mockingbird. You got this one in some pretty surroundings. :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful captures of the Mockingbird, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteYeah - a bird I know - almost too well!! Florida's state bird is the mocking bird!! They built a nest outside our bedroom window 2 years ago and for a week - the mocking bird was singing, yacking or fussing about something all night long!! After the first night - I'd send Danny out to smack the bush!! I don't know what her problem was - but she almost got her neck rung!!
ReplyDeleteLovely bird !
ReplyDeleteLovely shots... and hearing melodies - in there - it must be fantastic!! Till I'll go to the nearest forest, I'll have to be thankful with the birds from local park... because of a bad luck, so often I lose the chance to take a photo to some critters - mostly birds in rapid movement - (my camera is so tricky, so slow when is alert speed around and cannot focus on a subject). But I'll go on with improving the photo skills of nature details, aspects, so on. I'm truly inspired by your posts related to nature! Have a sunny day of wednesday!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots. I love hearing them.
ReplyDeleteMarvelous photos Eileen. I saw my first Eastern Towee today Eileen. No photos though but it was exciting :)
ReplyDeleteOh how I love Mockingbirds! We have one who just keeps on singing every morning, I would rather hear them than traffic.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of this pretty bird.
ReplyDeleteoohhh Eileen, these images are beautiful, they look especially pretty in the evergreens!!
ReplyDeleteThey are in my area but never visit my yard, I'm not sure why!!
A very handsome looking bird. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteWow, you got real good frontal shots of it; they're not easy!
ReplyDeleteLove mockingbirds! I started buying "no mess" (hulless) seed for a covered platform feeder, and there were two mockingbirds there together. I guess our fella has found a girl already. He's not singing nearly as much as he did last year. She must be keeping him busy.
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen great shots of this lovely little grey bird.
ReplyDeleteA wonderfull shot , sweet bird.
ReplyDeleteGreeting from Belgium.
