I am linking up with Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday
HAPPY EASTER to everyone who celebrates..
On Friday I was off work for the Easter holiday so hubby and I decided to take a ride to Shenandoah National Park.
We saw lots of deer along the Skyline Drive..groups of them here and there.
I always enjoy seeing the wildlife, the deer do not seem at skittish as the deer I see at home.. We were hoping to see a Black Bear.. maybe next time..
The morning fog looked really neat hanging around the Appalachian mountains..
Birds seen were the Eastern Towhee, American Robin, Tufted Titmouse and lots of Dark-eyed Juncos. Not pictured, we also saw hawks, vultures, Eastern Bluebirds and a Black White Warbler.
We always seem to come across the trail riders while hiking the Limberlost trail. You can arrange to go on the guided trail ride from the Skyland stables. The Limberlost Trail is 1.2 miles mostly level and easy walking..I like this trail in the spring and early summer, there are a lot of warblers around.
In the mosaic above, Dark Hollow Falls, some horseback riders seen while on the Limberlost trail and some scenes from the Dark Hollow Falls trail.
Dark Hollow Falls, it was nice to see it with a lot of water. The Dark Hollow Falls trail is 1.4 miles, somewhat steep in places located near Big Meadows. It is an impressive falls with water cascading down 70ft.
This Dark-eyed Junco did not seem shy around people. It hung around us while we were looking at the waterfalls.

I love your first photo with the bonneted chicks! And the trail was most enjoyable to follow with you. I love the Dark Hollow Falls and of course, I have only ever thought of the Appalachian mountains as fictional in western movies and books! It seems like you had a wonderful trip. We are doing our last birding (in the day) with another birder, a young Tanzanian tomorrow. More about this in my post on Wednesday probably! Have a great day. Jo xx

You got me --- I would have parked right there on that big rock and sat all day!! With the beautiful sun shining and the sounds of the water falling onto the rocks and I bet you can feel the moisture and water drops!! Now that is heaven!!!

You're so fortunate to have so many great places to hike nearby.
The water falls are stunning, as are those misty mountains. Lovely shots of the deer, the Towheee and of course the Junco. You've got me hummming one of those Shenandoah tunes now Eilen.
Lovely shots in a very beautiful place!
Those Falls looked gorgeous and great photos of it and also of your birds and the mountains. I love getting up that way for the wildlife, the deer especially and as you say, they are not quite as skittish up that way. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment on my blogging issues. Hopefully they will sort themselves out soon. Have a great week.

The Shenandoah National Park is so wonderful. I really enjoy visiting it. Great shots!
I love visiting that park. I also think the deer are far less fearless because people are feeding them! Too bad for that. I love the towhee. I have one who appear only in the late winter in my back yard.
Beautiful shots. What a pleasant way to spend your day off.
Awesome falls. I'd love to be walking along that path. : )
Beautiful national park, very scenic.
What a beautiful Park. The deer shots are amazing. When we see them, they usually run before I can get a picture. Loved your post!
I love the fog/mountains shots and the waterfall is fabulous! Looks like a wonderful place to explore.
Hi Eileen, Great snaps of the deer. Would you believe that in the year I have lived in Marion County, Florida, I have never seen a deer anywhere in FL? I used to live in a forested area of TN and saw deer often there. I have been told that many of the deer here in FL are small in size. Have a great Tues. tomorrow!
Deer, birds and fall - a perfect way to spend the weekend!
This is on my list of places to see..
I absolutely love the fog!
Great American wildlife, too.
Delightful park! You've had so many lovely birds and landscapes over the last week or so.
So beautiful! I never happened to visit this park!
Lovely collages.
You frame such beautiful sights!
The Easter holidays are already over Eileen but I'm glad I still see this blog. What a lovely Easter greeting with those eggs! And what a great picture of the birds, deer and horses. Also your waterfall is beautiful to behold. My compliments.
