Saturday's Critters #147
Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.
While visiting Shenandoah National Park, our only black bear sighting was at the Big Meadows campstore parking lot. I notice a lot of people standing around and looking up at a tree. We had to go over and see what was going on, the Black bear was up in the tree top eating acorns.
The bears face and look at those claws!

Just a little bit of the bears face and nose below.
My You tube video shows the bear coming down the tree after a park ranger used some kind of paintball gun to spook it. We were told the bear was there for a week hanging around too close to all the people going in and out of the campstore and the Big Meadows Visitor center. I hope you watch the video till the end you see the bear is safe and running away. Running the opposite away from us and the crowd of people.
I may be away from the computer this later this week, I will be be visiting everyone as soon as possible. My only post will be Saturday's Critters for now, I hope to be back to normal soon.
As always thanks for the visits and the nice comments. I also thank everyone who is linking up and sharing their critters.. Happy Saturday, have a great weekend!

Have a relaxing day!
Hello Eileen, that was exciting for me to see a bear. I'm glad it was encouraged to move away from the area with many people. In the last stills photo of the bear, I'm reminded of Skabenga! Thanks for hosting this meme. Have a great Saturday. Jo
Wow, a gorgeos animal. But why they shot for bear to flee in the video?
By the way, I have a plush bear like an real bear with big claws...
Enjoy your weekend
I have never seen a bear this close to the camp store. Wonderful sighting Eileen. Have a great weekend.

Must be exciting to see a black bear up at a tree eating acorns. Is the bear dangerous? I watched the video and the bear is safe. Thank you for hosting and have a beautiful day!

Thank you for hosting.
Wow amazing pics. Thanks for the video.

Hello Eileen!:) I was pleased to see the bear scamper off. Enjoy your time away!:)
That's pretty close to everyone! Its a hard problem to solve, managing animals in their habitat and human interest in them. He was handsome and healthy looking, which is good.
thanks for hosting Eileen!
Phew, I was worried the for poor Bear, alright.
Oh boy, I forgot they can climb!
Que copisa linda!!!Adorei ver o urso! Muito bom! beijos, tudo de bom, chica

Loving all those acorns.
Wow, how exciting to see a bear out in the wild, Eileen. Even better to take some photos and video of it!
Thanks for hosting.
Poor bear! Jut trying to get a meal.
We had the same experience with an elk herd. Just well enough hidden to avoid the camera. Happy Day.
yowsa on those claws and it is a good thing they have a safe way to chase it away from people. it would not be good for them to get to friendly, he paint will not hurt it but will make it know to stay away from people.
Eileen, enjoy your hiatus. Thanks for sharing.
poor big fellow! can't even eat in peace...
Awwww....the poor bear. Lovely photos, Eileen, and I did see the video and am happy that it is safe and was able to run away.
Awesome sighting!
A bear sighting is pretty scary from any distance! Hope you have a wonderful day! Hugs!
Here in Italy is almost impossible to see a bear, but I'd love to ... at a certain distance, of course !
Hope you had the best of weeks, darling Eileen,
I'm sending love and hugs on your Saturday and on your Sunday,
may they be filled with much gladness
Xx Dany
Good Morning Eileen. Wow, that bear sure had nerve hanging out in the tree for so long. He did have big paws/claws! I didn't know bears would eat acorns. Growing up in Kansas we had acorn trees. I enjoyed your video-you got some great shots. Have a great day and weekend!
Aw how neat to see a bear. We had one in the Plum tree once---very neat

Good morning Eileen what a fun critter post! Reminds me of Lions and tigers and really and truly bears! Thanks for sharing the video and the nature sounds, that's one thing I've been enjoying in my daughter's own backyard. So many bird songs! Love it all. Enjoy your weekend and fun outside!
Poor bear !! I think he was hungry! It's exciting to meet such a large animal !!
Happy weekend !
That was quite the sighting.
Amazing that big bear up a tree ~ what a sight to see ~ !
Wishing you a Happy Week ~ ^_^
Hi Eileen. Well that was a bit of a shame that the bear had to be chased away, especially since it seemed to be more scared of the people watching then they were of it being up the tree. I guess you can't be too careful of bears It's ok for me to say that as we don't have any in the UK, just teddy bears.
Have fun this coming week.
Amazing, Eileen!
Nice shots of the bear.
Glad they usually run away from people.
Those claws are something.
Happy weekend from Anne-Mari
Thank you for hosting the link-up!
Heather
Someone was real lucky and we all benefited from it
You got some great pics and video. I've been on the lookout for black bears on my walks but haven't spotted any. They're starting to gorge before hibernation.
sad they had to scare the cutie pie...but best they not get to acclimated to being around us.
We have lots of bears around town right now. They are visiting trees and gardens in addition to garbage cans if left out too early. Our town puts "Bear in the Area" signs out so you can be careful, especially walking at night. - Margy
Hi Eileen, Neat video. Bear behavior is so interesting. Glad to see him get away OK. Thanks for sharing the video. Hope you have a fine weekend!
Oh my goodness- that's too close for me! Thank you for hosting Eileen!
I've never seen a bear before, but I"m sure they are quite fearsome creatures :-)
A fun siting, and I'm glad the bear left the area safely and quickly!
Hope you have a good weekend - Stay warm, it's chilly tonight!! :-)
How cool to see a bear! I'm gonna link my prairie dog pics to this post if it's not too late. :)
Ha, I posted from Big Meadows too! Just deer though. Front Royal has had a big problem with visiting bears this year. The berry crop was late and the bears wandered into town looking for food, found it, and stayed around all summer raiding trash cans.
"Running the opposite away from us"
That's just the way I like it :-)
Wonderful sights!
Great Critter post Eileen . . .
Like that was a BIG Black Bear!
Aren't they more dangerous than the Brown bear or is it visa versa . . .
what an amazing experience to get so close to the bear!
oh..... he climbes really high. Lucky you can see him.
Good that the bear was eating acorns and not turning over garbage cans, like they're always doing around our place in W.V.
Cool video, Eileen!
~
Grandma...what big paws you have..Those claws could do a ton of damage..Great shots..What a photo op!!.Have fun wherever you are!!
It must be amazing to be that close to a black bear up a tree, his claws sure are long.
I hope you have a good week.
All the best Jan
You dared to get that close!!!
Oh my gosh what a wonderful sighting -- I'm so glad the bear was safe though and I hope he stays away from people -- I know they don't mix well with us, but I would still have loved to have gotten these amazing pictures and video. just wonderful.
Dearest Eileen; OMG, black bear sighting sound SO exciting and I've never seen bear :-) Yes, the video of the bear safely got down the tree with paintball gun made me quite relieved♡♡♡
By the way, my next neighbor who gave me the chestnuts asked me what "ドングリ, donguri”in English, I answered "acorn" p:-)
Sending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my Dear friend in America, xoxo Miyako*

I did not realize bears ate acorns! Did the ranger say why he/she scared the bear off?
we heard the funniest bear story today, sounds like many seen them but i've not seen one a long while! neatO!
Oh, I see it. Scary and cute at the same time.
yes, look at THOSE claws! very interesting photos! have a good day, Eileen!
What an amazing looking Bear. So sad it was spooked but I suppose the Ranger was only doing his job. Better safe than sorry.
Have a wonderful week :)
Bom dia, Maravilhoso momento fotografico, é perfeito.
Resto de boa semana,
AG
Thanks for the video, Eileen. What a graest experience to get so close to a bear. It is a little scary but also cute.
Nice bear encounter. I guess the paintball also marks it so it may be recognized if it continues to be a nuisance. Can't blame it for wanting to eat acorns before the long hibernation.
Hi Eileen, Wonderful bear sighting. Glad the bear was eating natural food and not trying to get into trash or anything human. Nice. Have a wonderful weekend!
The only bears that I saw until today were in the zoo...
Great post, Eileen! Thanks for sharing!
A big kiss!
Ana
