Purple Gallinule

Hello,

My bird this week is the Purple Gallinule. It is a swamp hen in the rail family. The adult has big yellow feet and blue-purple plumage. This bird looks beautiful when the light is shining just right on it's feathers. It seems to be a common bird seen in our local Lake Parker Park in Lakeland Florida.

The Purple Gallinule has a pale blue forehead with red and yellow bill.

Lake Parker Park is just a short drive away and we usually see the Purple Gallinule every time we take a walk at this park.

I hope you enjoyed the Purple Gallinule and my photos. Thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.

My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

We have them here along the Texas Gulf Coast. There is certainly no difficulty in identifying this bird. If you see one, you know exactly what it is! Happy birding!

A very interesting bird. Its red beak must certainly be a clue as to what it is when you see it from a far.

I have enjoyed you living in Lakeland Eileen!! Being a native Floridian, I know all the birds you capture ---- except this purple gallinule!! He's lovely!! Because of his body shape, I thought he was a type of a duck until I looked back at his feet. Such a neat bird!!
As always, a great catch

Hi Eileen, Those are lovely, colorful birds. And, the big yellow feet, along with the yellow tipped beak, really do add to the uniqueness of the color palette. Very pretty photos! Have a great day!

It is fascinating when I visit here and discover these birds that I've never heard of before and see the lovely photos of them that you capture there.

I didn't know you lived in Lakeland. Our son went to Florida Southern College. We loved going down to visit... Lakeland is LOVELY.

Last time we went to the Orlando Wetlands Park we ran into a bunch of hikers that were looking for purple galinules. We saw the regular old "black" ones, but didn't see any purple ones that day.

A striking looking bird indeed - I am walking around a new park in Thailand and commenting on how few ducks there are on the pond. Always a delight to see your photos Eileen, sorry I have not been able to get here so often!
Happy Wednesday.

Hi Eileen. That gallinule is rather special. It is huge and that bill and feet really reinforce the overall size

What a neat looking bird. Similar looking to a moorhen.

Those gallinules are the prettiest ones -- but they and their 'common' moorehen cousins all make me laugh because of those enormous feet! They are really fun to watch on land, but hard to spot there -- you got some great shots.

What a pretty bird to see in the marsh. I like the name "marsh hen". Wow, those giant yellow feet look a little odd on this bird. They seem out of proportion or something. Enjoy your day Eileen :)

We have a similar one in Sweden but the coming season will probably come with just too little water for them to thrive. Water level is low already :(

What a beautiful collection and I get these confused I think with the Common Morehens. They are similar I imagine. I am so late getting back to my blogging, it has been a stormy kind of week, calmed down now, but now very cold! Have a beautiful weekend~
