Hello,
I am sharing another Florida bird with the help of my Flickr photos. This is the Black-crowned Night Heron. We saw these herons in various parks and places in Florida. These shots were taken at the Lettuce Lake Park near Tampa, Florida.
At Lettuce Lake Park there is a boardwalk and you just look down at the birds, most birds were really close.
The Black-crowned Night Heron's have mostly grey and black plumage. They breed in colonies and they live around fresh and salt water wetlands.
Thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.
My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

ReplyDeleteThe black crowned night heron is a god looking bird, Eileen. I like the name "Lettuce Lake"--I wonder if there is a story behind that name?

I really wish you could come and visit me and our birds in Bangkok, your Heron photos are as usual exceptional, I love the clarity you get. We would have such fun trying to identify the noisy dawn chorus outside my window, which I am extremely happy about living in the middle of the city!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy week

We have one that lives in a pond near me. I'm always thrilled when I spot him!
ReplyDeleteVery nice !
ReplyDeleteQuite distinctive. That kind of heron does not come this far north.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful bird...
ReplyDeleteHe is magnificent / always so interesting to see the birds and critters that are not natural to my habitat :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Eileen!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit late to the party, but I've been busy! Actually busy, which is unusual for me!
ReplyDeleteYour birds are amazing.
It's funny. These birds can be really hard to snap photos of OR they can be super easy! Looks like a fabulous place to bird. Hope you are enjoying your week! Chris

Very nice !
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites! Great captures, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteHello Eileen!:) Sorry to be late in commenting. Have had a few mishaps that needed medical attention. I have always loved these Night Herons, and your shots are brilliant! Those red eyes are really striking. I wonder why some Black Crowned Night Herons have white head plumes, and others don't! They are handsome grey and black birds anyway, with, or without head plumes.
ReplyDeleteThere are some of these at one of the rehab facilities that I follow...I can't grab the photo for the collage..only a link so it won't be in this week....Michelle
ReplyDeleteReally fine photos Eileen!
ReplyDeleteHerons always look a little grouchy.
Nice shots indeed. This is again new to me.
ReplyDeleteFunny looking, almost awkward...
