Hello,
Happy Monday, wishing everyone a great day and new week! January 15th, the month is almost half over. Time is flying and Spring will be here soon. Today is federal holiday for Martin Luther King's birthday and a Happy Birthday to my niece Melissa.
In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." Martin Luther King
January 7th, I have been seeing lots of Blue Jays, they can be bullies and piggies. They are beautiful birds a lovely color blue and pretty patterns on their feathers.
Below, there are about 7-8 Blue Jays eating the sunflowers seeds I laid out on our deck railing. Click on the photos for larger viewing.
This photo below show some of the Blue Jay's tail feathers.
The Blue Jay range is mostly east and central United States. Thanks to David comment, the range also includes part of eastern and central Canada and the Boreal Forest.
The Blue Jay feeds mostly on nuts and seeds.
I hope everyone enjoyed my Blue Jay post. As always I thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.
My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

...always a favorite of mine!
This i a lovely bird.. Happy week.. :-)
Thank you for quoting Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, one of the great figures of our lifetime. When we reflect back on his hope for peace and harmony among the races, a vision of brotherhood and love, it is especially distressing to see Trump the Bigot in the White House, and depressing to know that 63,000,000 Americans voted for his brand of populism to put him there.
Blue Jays are one of our most underrated species. They are beautiful, feisty and enliven the avian party!
Hello Eileen,
Nice shots of these wonderful birds.
They are so special.
Kind regards,
Marco
Hello Eileen!
Happy birthday to your niece Melissa!
Gorgeous pictures with the Blue Jay!
Great captures!!
Lovely birds and lucky to have you taking care of them!
Have a lovely day and a happy new week!
Dimi...
Yes, Blue Jays are bullies and piggies. The ones that come to my feeder, kick all the seeds out on the ground just to get to the black sunflower seeds. The other smaller birds just sit under it and peck at the ground.
Beautiful blues, how could they be anything other than friendly, loving and kind with those colours?
I omitted to mention in my previous comment that I think your statement that the range of this species is east and middle United States is more than a tad misleading. It is a widespread resident in all of eastern and central Canada, as far north as the boreal forest, with resident populations being augmented by birds migrating from farther south to breed. As I look out my window this morning there are four Blue Jays in my back yard. When we visit Algonquin Provincial Park, roughly four hours northeast of here, it is one of the most abundant species.
What a gorgeous bird! West Nile Virus really hit our bluejay population about 10-12 years ago but they are rebounding. Now I have blue jays year round. Hope you have a lovely day!!

They are beautiful, that cannot be argued! I do worry that such birds as these thrive at the expense of others. However, that is the case of the human species, and Dr King knew this. Blessed Goodwill on this day to you! YAM xx
Blue Jays have always been one of my favorite birds - all bullying aside. I haven't found them to be a problem in my yard, and really do love their beautiful coloring! Have a nice day, Eileen!
Beautiful pics. Greetings.
Beautiful, Eileen. I've seen them in N. Calif
Don't they have the most beautiful feathers! Love these and the Scrub Jays we see here in Florida...although we haven't seen any in awhile! Enjoy your day sweet friend. Hugs, Diane
I love blue jays. Your eastern jays look so different than the stellar, and scrub jays we have in the west.
OMG, I can imagine the sound of 7-8 Jays squawking! And, I thought I had it rough with three of them. LOL They truly are beautiful though. Have a blessed week.
Ours mostly head out in winter. I've never figured that out. Not like we get a lot of cold.
i love my bluejays!! the are so pretty and have a gorgeous feather pattern!!!
Happy Martin Luther King day today, and I belief is in David Gascoigne word, 'Trump the Bigot in the White House' 63.000.000 people didn't want him. The Blue Jays are awesome Eileen.
Love the close-up of the Blue Jay. We feed them the mixed nuts that get a little old before we finish them.
Have a great week!
That is a wonderful and timely MLK quote, Eileen. He was a true hero. I love your happy Blue Jay! They are so colorful! Have a wonderful week!
I know they can be very crabby, scrappy birds but I simply adore blue jays! They're so pretty!
My Blue Jays are 'nice ones' here at my feeders... First of all, they only come to visit in the Spring (through early Fall)... NOT sure where they go --but we do have them year round in our area (just not right here)...
I put out peanuts in the shell for them --and they love them. They don't seem like bully birds at all... Of course --we don't have as many around all at the same time either.... SO--maybe that makes a difference.
The Pine Siskins are the birds which drive me crazy. They come in huge groups and make a HUGE mess.... Grrrrrrr.... ha ha
Hugs,
Betsy
I have always loved these pushy guys...their feathers look like stained glass! How neat to see the Steller's Jays once we moved here, with their much darker blues, but yet so similar! I can't put any nuts out, or even seeds since we worry about the burrowing squirrel that we know has already made a tunnel under our house foundation. I can't encourage them to come around. But the suet feeder gets a LOT of attention! :-)
I really love the striking colours of the blue jay! He is a frequent visitor here in southern Ontario, but I wish he hung around the yard more for my personal viewing pleasure. Have a great week Eileen!
Wendy
I love how they're all lined up on the deck railing!
Lovely shots and a great quote.
I know what you mean about the Jays -- but yours are so pretty! (We see them occasionally here in Florida, but the ones I'm more familiar with from Oregon are Scrub Jays -- same behavior, but not as much pretty patterns in their feathers.
Your lovely blue jay became one of the inspirations for a new chapter in the infamous Team Netherworld's WIP, Fetch. Thank you for your beautiful photos!

Hello Eileen, such a pretty bird with the cutest cheekiest little face!
That was a great line up of jays on your deck fence!
Have a great week!
they are beautiful blue bullies and when i read that, i thought about in the movies we watch about bullies in school, it is usually the beautiful kids bullying the not so beautiful...
They are beautiful! I've never seen so many at once. My daughter has a lot of birds in her back yard. Fun for the grandkids to watch!
I've only seen a few Blue Jays this winter!
They certainly are beautiful birds.
The birds do seem to like sunflower seeds.
They are such a beautiful blue colour.
Happy Birthday to your niece.
All the best Jan
The Blue jay is lovely !!
They systematically cleaned out a birdhouse of mine ..Fledgling by fledgling..Bullies for sure..Pretty though..good pictures..
Such a pretty blue on those blue jays.
I like that quote!!
What beauties. You've really attracted quite of few!
Those birds on your deck are wonderful!
They may be bullies, but they are mighty handsome!
What lovely photos! You'd rarely see such large groups of our European jays - certainly not in a garden!
Happy Blue Jay Day . . .
I love seeing the flash of blue at the fe3ders.
Sometimes I think they get a bad rap . . .
I have seen the male cardinal be just as greedy!
Happy new year, Eileen! What utterly beautiful birds these Blue Jays are... but I hope we can all treat each other with more respect than they appear to do! We have what I think of as 'ordinary' Jays. They have electric blue feathers (very small) but are mainly a kind of pale chestnut/dusky pink.
What handsome bluejays! It's so cold here they taken to hiding where it's warm I suppose. We just made sure the birdseed is out! Have a grand day!
Cathy
Beautiful shots of the Blue Jays! I used to not like them, but I have changed my mind. They are always fun to see!
Piękne zdjęcia jestem pod wrażeniem. Pozdrawiam serdecznie .
Wow! I've never seen that many Blue jays at one time as on your deck rail. I get quite a few in my yard, and you're right, they are bullies and piggies. Blue jays love my mulberries in the spring, and will fuss with the squirrels over them. But, you gotta love them, they are so pretty, aren't they! Yes, January is half over now, thank you for the pretty blue post, and Happy Birthday to Martin Luther King, and, your niece.
They really are lovely birds, but yes, bullies for certain. My Father-in-law gets upset with me for feeding them, as he believes that is what turns them into such competitive little monsters. But they only come around once in a while, and I certainly couldn't live through one of our winters without all my feathered friends in the yard. They add as much cheer as flowers in the Spring.
Enjoy your week Eileen,
Andrea
What a beautiful blue bird!
I love your blue jays !
I had one so tame for several years that he'd call to me, land on the porch on a table right beside me, etc.
Lovely shots of yours :)
they are indeed beautiful birds! You sure are a good photographer!
Saimi
They are incredibly beautiful and you have captured them beautifully! Wishing you a beautiful 2018! Forgive my long absences...
Love the colour of them.
Nice to see the blue birds in group:)
Wonderful images of pretty blue birds!
Beautiful! Great photos!
The Blue Jays here are very camera-shy.
Hope you are having a great week!
Blue Jays are sometimes fun to watch. A very smart bird---well I am referring to the Blue Jays out this way---Stellar Jay

Tbey are indeed beautiful jays. I also read in my guide books they are actually BROWN...the lighting/color changes to blue thru human vision
The Martin Luther King quote is quite profound.....and so true. I've always had a soft spot for blue jays. I grew up in a pine forest in New England, and the jays were always the first thing I heard and saw in the morning. I think they are beautiful! Hope you are having a good week, Eileen. xx K
What a fantastic color! Great shots.
Hello Eileen!:) Wonderful captures of these brilliant blue Jays. Love the line up on your fence. Very special views from your window,..thanks for sharing.
Beautiful blues!
"In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." Martin Luther King
Isn't that the truth!
the blue jay fits nicely, colorwise, on the fence :)
Great quote Eileen and I love blue jays...Michelle
You photos are amazing!!!!
Oh, your Blue Jay looks a bit different than ours here. Yours is spotted on its tail, and ours has a long solid blue tail. It's amazing how much you know about the birds, Eileen.
