Saturday's Critters # 305

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

We were dog-sitting Nibbles and Chewy while my son and DIL went on their honeymoon. I think Nibbles and Chewy loved going on walks with us.

Nibbles took on the job of watching for squirrels.

Oct 12th I saw 3 Monarchs at our Butterfly bush.

One morning, I looked out my dining room window to see this Hawk on my deck railing. I was glad I did not put out my bird feeders earlier.

I am guessing this is the immature Cooper's Hawk, it was looking all around for a meal.

We had a surprise visitor early Friday morning, my hubby woke me up at 2am saying we had a black bear on the deck. It knocked over a metal trash can that had a heavy cinder block on top. I keep all my bird feeders and seed in the trash can, the heavy block was to keep critters like raccoons from eating my seed. Obviously the heavy cinder block did not deter the bear any.  Hubby had a view from our kitchen window at the bear's butt sticking out of the trash can. The trash can was right outside and under the window.  I had a good view of the medium sized  bear walking away by our gate and down the end of the driveway. The bears have been seen in our area for the last month or so.

I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments !

Here is a list of my linky parties;

Also visit:  I'd-Rather-B-Birdin. Thanks to the gracious host: Anni.

  1. Very creative dog names :) You got some really nice shots of the hawk. Really scary to have a bear intrusion.

  2. The hawk is quite nice to see too, anyway. Bears are an embarassing presence...we do not have any in our neighbouhood, but in eastern Finland where the landscape is wilder, there are bears.
Enjoy your weekend and your cute dogs!

  5. Hello Eileen,

Beautiful dogs, and they are such good company. Pretty Hawk and Monarchs too. It must be nice to watch butterflies now. Here they are gone.
    Black bear? Be careful!

    Happy weekend!

  7. Hello Eileen,
Beautiful pictures of the dogs and also of this Cooper's Hawk.
What an experience to get a black bear in your garden.
Too bad you couldn't take pictures of it.
Do you want to add my link, I still can't do it.
    Best regards, Irma

  8. Nibbles and Chewy are beautiful dogs. I love taking dogs for walks but no more since I am not keeping a dog now. The bear knows where to get easy meal. Thank you, Eileen for hosting and have a beautiful weekend!

That does indeed look to be what I understand as a Coopers Hawk (based only on other images seen!) - very handsome, but certainly could be trouble for the smaller birds. Crikey, hope those bears don't become too regular as visitors. Is there some noise deterrant you could use to make it think it has company? They are fun to watch, but not really the best to have in the yard! YAM xx

  10. Wow, the bears are invading. I had them demolish two of my feeders in New Mexico. I knew to bring them in but forgot one night and paid dearly! Nice big Cooper's Hawk. One has been terrorizing my favorite birding spot. When I flush it out it simply moves to the other end.

  14. I would totally freak out if a bear was in our yard... so the bear came to the bird buffet and the hawk came to the bird buffet, but the hawk got NONE and the bear got it ALL...

  22. Hmmm, a bear in one's yard is not a sight that many people would welcome. They're fine creatures out in the wild, but as there is less and less wild nowadays, we will see such creatures foraging for food closer to our homes.

  34. Bear visitors make a mess. We have one who has visited my garbage can twice over the two weeks and after cleaning up the last mess I decided to keep the can inside and put up with the smell rather than have a big visitor. Lovely to see the two dear dogs having their holiday with you. Love visiting.
