Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
Lately I have been hearing and seeing the Ruby-crowned Kinglets in my yard. On this day I found one bouncing around a vine wrapped around our wooden swing. They are quick movers and very small.
These birds have an eye ring but the ring is broken at the top and bottom.
I found it hard to get a clear shot of this bird, it was moving around too fast. Never staying still. I think you can see a tiny red dot on the bird's head on the photo below.
This shot shows more of the tail and wing feathers.
This is not the best White-throated Sparrow photo and not my first sighting this year. It was a rainy morning and the photo was taken from my dining room window. It is just a record of one of my winter yard birds seen recently.
I do not often keep a list of my yard birds but David and his blog, made me think of keeping a list one day of my yard birds seen in an hour or so.
Here is my list of 14 bird sightings and 4 birds heard:
Blue Jay
Northern Cardinal
Mourning Doves
White-breasted Nuthatch
Carolina Chickadee
Carolina Wren
Turkey Vultures
Tufted Titmouse
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Downy Woodpecker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
White-throated Sparrow
House Finch
American Goldfinch
If I count birds heard and not seen, I would include the:
Pine Warbler
Pileated Woodpecker
American Crow
Canada Geese in flight.
I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments !
Here is a list of my linky parties;

Dearest Eileen; Sweet Ruby-crowned Kinglets look very LOVELY among the Yellow Leaves♪ Yes, I do wish they would stay still more. When my husband takes me to the rice paddy, I sit back seat and take photos opening window, even so they are so sensitive.
ReplyDeleteWhite-throated Sparrow's yellow feather like thing on their face makes him look 'rugged' image; hope I am correct in English meaning.
Thank you very much for hosting and have a nice weekend.
Sincerely from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
Thank you Miyako! Enjoy your weekend!

DeleteDet är en riktig utmaning att fotografera småfåglarna, precis som du skriver rör de sig oavbrutet och därtill oftast i en skyddande vegetation. Jag tycker du lyckades bra med dina bilder.
ReplyDeleteTrevlig helg Eileen!

ReplyDeleteThank you Minoru! Enjoy your weekend!
DeleteThanks for the link to my blog, Eileen, it is appreciated. I understand exactly what you mean when you say that kinglets do not stay still for a moment. The only solution is to take lots of pictures and hope a couple turn out well. Maybe one day you will drive up into southern Ontario and we can go birding together. And come and have dinner with us too!
ReplyDeleteHello David, thanks for the nice invitation. We never know when or where our next trip will be. I appreciate the comment and visit. Enjoy your weekend.
DeleteBeautiful photos of these endearing little birds, Eileen. Like you, I see many birds in our yard, but have not written down their names, although I have photographed them. I'll do that!

ReplyDeleteThank you Marie! Enjoy your weekend!
DeleteThey are so fun, the little song birds. Tricky, so when you get an image, and a positive ID, you jump for joy!

Thank you Jenn! Enjoy your weekend!
DeleteHello Eileen. Beautiful little birds in your yard.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy weekend.
Thank you Anu! Enjoy your weekend!
DeleteThose kinglets are certainly active and evasive! Interestingly, I have seen these two species only once each here in south Florida over the 15 years we have lived here.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ken! Enjoy your weekend!
Deletethis is fun and maybe i will do this once the leaves are gone completely. i was at my window yesterday, and still find it difficult with all the leaves still on the trees. i think i have photographed a ruby crowned kinglets, or maybe just a kinglet???. i had the i.d. wrong and david corrected me. i have not seen the white throated sparrows yet, but i suspect they will be back soon. have you checked your camera for the "continuous" feature?? that allows your camera to shoot continuously on bird that move a lot. that might help if your camera has that feature.
ReplyDeletehave a great weekend, it's going to get chilly next week. many thanks for hosting!!!
Hi Debbie, I am always second guessing my bird id's. Sometimes I get them right, I try. The WT Sparrows have a pretty sound. Thanks so much for the comment. Enjoy your day!
DeleteI've seen kinglets here but not very often. You show why we don't see them often. They are well colored to hide in the leaves.
ReplyDeleteHi Red, they do hide well and move quickly. Thanks for the comment. Enjoy your weekend!
DeleteI've never heard of a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Aren't they just the cutest!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Dee! Enjoy your weekend!
DeleteThat's a pretty good list!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen! Enjoy your weekend!

ReplyDeleteThank you Karen! Enjoy your weekend!
DeleteI love the beautiful Warblers! There are so many! And I like the idea of writing out a list. I write some of the highlights when I hike but it would be fun to do a complete list! Enjoy your weekend! Wish you were down here for this nice weather. Hugs, Diane

ReplyDeleteWhat pretty little birds! You are so fortunate, Eileen to see and hear so many birds in your yard. The only one I saw roday were a magpie and some chickadees
ReplyDeleteVery pretty birds!
ReplyDeleteI like these !
ReplyDeleteSome of the tiny birds are so difficult to capture, love the shots of the Kinglet. I need to get some sunflower seeds soon. I haven't taken one bird photo all year. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh so lovely ~ nature's foliage and the sweet busy birds ~ great photos!
ReplyDeleteHappy Day to You,
A ShutterBug Explores,
aka (A Creative Harbor)
how wonderful to see and here that many birds. I envy you.
ReplyDeleteWe have a cousin to your Kinglet but I rarely see it. So small and it wants to hide in firs. At the top! Of course. :)
I wish you a great week with many birds.
That Ruby-crowned Kinglet is such a pretty little bird...I want to go look it up at All about Birds now to see what it sound like.
ReplyDeleteNow I want to see a kinglet.
ReplyDeleteLoved reading your yard bird count. AND VIEWING your photos today Eileen. Some birds are such a challenge to get even a picture. Most often, for me, the bird has flown out of the picture frame & all I have is blurred branches!
ReplyDeleteStopping by I'd Rather B Birdin this week and sharing your link is appreciated...thanks!
Hi Eileen. Your kinglets are so much like our Goldcrests and Firecrests. They never keep still either making it very difficult to get a good photo. Except when we catch them for banding.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to be able to have so many variety of birds visiting your yard. You take good captures of the birds and it would be good to have a list of the birds that visited your yard.
ReplyDeleteMy sister gave me the most beautiful naturalist book and journal and I must write about it sometime. Interestingly, I have the very same birds noted in it. It is always surprising and fun to add up just how many we see. I enjoy trying to identify the sparrows too. Lovely little kinglet.
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, I've been keeping a list of birds that have visited my yard since 2016 and have 19 different ones. It's amazing when you write them down. I also have seen 13 different wildlife critters, too. Don't you just love it. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bird. Love the photos. I linked up.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful creatures! I love my yard birds. I like to show them to my grandkids and we look them up in one of my little bird books to identify them. Then we write down the date we saw them next to their photo. They have become quite good at recognizing them.
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty little birds! The green ones blend in with the foliage. I love the stripes on the head of the bird in the final image.
ReplyDeleteLoved the post. Beautiful pics.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week ahead.
Such a pretty little bird.
ReplyDeleteYay for your little Wrens - this one is singing at you too:)
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see these birds, and the Autumnal colour in your photographs is nice too :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Oh I love to know the birds I'm seeing in our woods! I wish I was better at calls of birds. Great photos
