Our World, My World

 Happy Monday!

I hope everyone is hanging in there and staying safe.  I know some states are re-opening now, Maryland since March 30th is continuing the stay at home unless you are essential. We can go out for a walk for fresh air and to the store wearing a mask.

Sunday April 19th, we took a walk in our neighborhood. We can not walk on the trails/fire roads due to the closing and no-trespassing signs. So we had to take our walk on the road.  We walked to the bridge, where it goes across the reservoir.  During our 30 years living here,  it was the first time they closed the fire roads/ trails to the public. No fishing boats on the lake, no hiking, no horseback riding, just no to everything.

There are no sidewalks so a few times we had to go back and forth across the street whenever we heard a car or truck coming.

We have to watch out while walking some trucks have these huge mirrors sticking way out. We managed safely to walk down to the bridge and back home.

The trees are budding, on this day it still looks like winter most trees were still bare. The forest is considered the watershed area around the reservoir.

A view of the lake from the right side of the bridge.

We walked just a little on the bridge. The only people we saw beside drivers in cars and trucks, were some bike riders and joggers.

I am guessing the bird below is a Northern Rough-winged Swallow. I watched maybe 5-6 of these Swallows flying low over the lake.

Besides the Swallows that hang out around the bridge we could see a few Canada Geese on the lake.

In the forest around the lake there are the native White Dogwood trees.

A lone flower we saw off the road, not sure of the id.

Beside birding in my yard, a walk on the road or a drive to the bike trail we only go out to the food stores. We live in a rural area near the lake, it is a 15 minute drive to the food store. This is my world.

I pray everyone is healthy and remains safe. Take care.

  1. Your photos, as always, are beautiful. I'm looking forward to some nice weather when Steve and I can get out a bit further than just walking in our neighborhood.

It was a bit of a rough weekend here. Steve's dad was in the hospital a couple of weeks ago for 2 weeks. When he got out he had to go to a different nursing home because his had Covid-19 pretty badly. Today we found out, he has it. So far, he is asymptomatic, but with all his health issues, we worry. He's 87 and in pretty bad health. Please keep him in your thoughts.

  2. A beautiful lake and walk Eileen I am sure you find it very much quieter now. Stay safe. I think the states that are opening are making a huge mistake. They are putting money in front of lives and health

  3. Hello Eileen,
    Nice pictures of your walk.
Here too we go for a walk alone, my husband does cycle on the road bike, I don't.
I am not going to do any shopping either, my husband does that, only one person from a family is allowed to go to the store.
I loved the photos, you live in beautiful surroundings.
    Best regards Irma

  4. beautiful views Eileen, the bridge is a great place to get those super shots. Tomorrow, well, tonight at midnight, NZ goes down to level 3, we can drive 10 minutes in our own area, some takeaways will be able to open, but contactless, same for garden centres, some sports are allowed, and I truly hope everyone is sensible. So far, we are all safe, and family too.

  5. Good morning, Eileen!
We are not allowed to take walks in the forest .. not yet!
The forest is very close to my house ... and I miss my morning walk there.
You took beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing!
    Have a nice week ahead!

  6. Hello Eileen,

Beautiful photos and nature. The white Dogwood are very pretty. I think the white flower is Sanguinaria canadensis, but I'm not sure.
Enjoy your day, and stay safe!

That last flower is SO pretty! Another breath of fresh air from you, Eileen. Ta &*> The sun is shining in the window this morning and the air is mild, the birds are singing their little hearts out and very little traffic (for Edinburgh). Bliss. Keep healthy! YAM xx

  8. so sorry to hear that they are closing trails and nature. Why are they doing that? Nature can´t infect you, Nature keeps you healthy. And nature is not a place where people gather close to each others, se need space to move. :( So far we are free to do most things except gathering close to each other on bars and stores and such.

  9. Hello,
thanks for sharing these peaceful views of your world. The flowers are very beautiful. Swallows are back to Italy too, after the winter.
Happy and safe new week ahead to you!

  11. Thank you for sharing your walk. The lake looks pretty. We haven't gone out either except to pick up necessities. Have a wonderful day! Stay safe.

  12. It must be really frustrating to have all those beautiful trails right there and not be able to use them.

  13. Glad you could get out for a walk, but sorry they have closed your trails. I'm glad ours are still open (though Valley Forge Park remains closed). Today looks to be another grey, damp one (so tiresome...).

  14. It's strange how empty our world looks now. . .as if we are the only ones left after an alien invasion. I was so excited last night to be able to wave at a neighbor over the fence and chat a bit! Maybe we will have more more verbal intercourse after this whole thing subsides, for I fear it will not be "over" for some time.! Take care of yourself and thank you for your visit!

  15. Very pretty area. It's difficult to find good spots for activity with the closures..I end up roadside birding sometimes...it's always a little more difficult. I don't know what the future holds with this virus..it seems bent on taking many souls off the planet.
Stay safe and enjoy the outdoors!

  16. so much beauty out there on the roads and trails. a perfect place to walk.. the photos or wonderful... hope they can open the fire road soon since i know you both love walking there... we heard geese honking today but could not see them, but yesterday they flew so low, 3 of them i thought they would hit us in the face.. must be flying north excep these were flying EAST ha ha
Gorgeous pics of the flowers. in my 75 years on this planet, they have never once closed our beaches here, not even during or after looming hurricanes.. today, Sarasota is trying their beaches with lots of restrictions and a promise to re close if they are not followed. open for walking, joggin and swimming only. no chairs, no sitting, no blankets or food consumed.. we shall see

  17. I'm in the middle of the city so walks are mostly on sidewalks with people scurrying around trying to avoid getting near other people. it isn't fun or relaxing at all. The lane ways are better because there are fewer people and they are wide but you can get bored with garage doors unless you happen upon a mural. Stay safe, Eileen!

  18. What a beautiful view from the bridge! It's crazy here to close the nature trails....there are WAY more people walking in the neighborhood than ever get out on the trails. But they forgot to consult with me when they closed them! lol Take care and have a good week!

  19. The last flower is Bloodroot, I do believe. Glad you could at least walk on the road and that the traffic is not too terrible. I do hate that your trails are closed.

  20. Your lock down is far more rigorous than ours. We've been able to walk in the parks. We are not restricted to times. I think being very rigorous about isolation is the way to conquer the beast.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree with other's thoughts that a fire road shouldn't be closed, so now you walk where there's road traffic. Argh! I'm going to walk around the complex, wearing my mask today.

  22. You have a much nicer place to walk near home. Yesterday on our city streets we saw more people walking than before. Most of them were younger couples. - Margy

  23. your views on the trail are so beautiful and it sure does lift your spirits to get out and breathe in the fresh air. i don't really agree with closing walking/biking paths, i think we have suffered mentally and spiritually because of it. closing all of our boardwalks is not needed either, in my humble opinion. but, we try to follow the rules and do as we are told!

one thing that i really don't understand is eating take out food. i have seen many videos that chefs have shared and they are not wearing face masks. the people prepping and packaging the food are shoulder to shoulder, breathing all over the food. look at "blend on main" in manasquan on Facebook, they share so many videos of themselves making food for front line workers and i cringe each time i watch one!! i'm cooking all of our food and don't think i don't worry about the meal kits i am receiving. it's all so scary!!!

  24. A wonderful walk. Glad you have a safe plan in place for trucks! We have a very busy road with 50mph speed limit so we avoid it altogether. The safest day to walk on it would be Sunday because the traffic is lightest that day. Hope you have a good week ahead!

    Preciosas fotos. Buena semana.

  27. Thank you for taking us on your walk Eileen. I hope it won't be too long before it is safe to open up all the trails. Thank you for also introducing me to a new bird. I have never heard of the Northern Rough-winged Swallow. Stay safe and happy :)

  28. Hello Eileen, we must stay home very much but we have not a lockdown. Your photos are very beautiful, I love the lake. The swallows are very beautiful, they different from our swallows. Stay healthy. Greetings Caroline

  29. Looks like a beautiful day for a walk and I love the bridge and water. If there was a spot to sit, that's where you'd find me. Be safe walking on the road.

  30. The bridge looks great and offers a beautiful view of the lake. It's too bad your trails are off limits. We can go walking with a 2km restriction from our house. Not the best situation for anyone. Enjoy your day and stay safe.

  34. Such a beautiful sunny day for walking. I could sure use some walks in the sunshine!! Seems to be raining or cloudy every morning. I try to wait sometimes and go later but for me walking later is just not the same for me.
I do that thing crossing the street on certain roads too.

  35. We've been walking around our neighborhood, too. What a wonderful walk you have! The water looks so peaceful.

  36. We can walk too but oh, I think you have aced it for gorgeous spots, Eileen. And your weather looks fabulous. Today was our first sunny day in ages but it's raining again tonight so who knows what tomorrow will bring. I hope it brings something as lovely as what you've shared here.

  37. Eileen - sounds like a tough set of circumstances there. Has Maryland figured out when it might re-open? I was impressed with our Governor and his team figuring out what it would take to re-open and stay open, which is happening in a phased approach starting today. Having said that, Glacier National Park is not open and they seem to be struggling to determine how to make it happen. Thanks for sharing your spring photos with everyone at Mosaic Monday - the dogwoods are glorious!

  38. I suppose since beaches are closed in some countries ours🇹🇹 included. Hiking trail will also be closed.
Thanks for your mosiac shares today

  39. I am sorry they have closed the trails so you had to walk along the road and brave the traffic. But at least you were able to walk anyways. You will be enjoying the spring wildflowers soon. Have a great week, stay safe, and thank you for visiting my blog this week.

  40. I went on a longer hike than I intended yesterday for an early walk in a nearby marsh, but it gets crowded early so took the road back to an outer parking lot and hightailed it out of there. I saw a blue bird which may have a been a bluebird, I don't know but will upload the pic to Google Images when I bring the camera in from the car.
There have been many people walking in the road since the beginning of this thing and I attributed it to nature newbies, but now I'm thinking it might be to stay away from ticks. Are you concerned about the high tick count this season? Anyway, glad you are able to do something, today you can rent a canoe and last week you could go golfing again, not that I'm going to do either.

  43. I like your world, Eileen. It's peaceful, beautiful, and among nature. I'm glad I got to experience that while growing up. :-) Love that bridge. There was a much smaller one that forded a creek a mile from where we lived. I thought it was magical. :-) Take care.

  45. We have been in level 4 lockdown for over a month and only just came out yesterday, we are down to 3 infected people today which is pretty good and only 19 deaths, still sad for the families though. Yesterday I managed to get out for a good walk which was great.

  46. That’s pretty much our world too Eileen. We can drive to parks though so we did go to one out of our neighborhood today for a walk. It used to be that if we drove somewhere for a walk or birding, we would go out for a meal before we went home. No more...we cook every meal at home now. It is amazing how our world has changed in such a short time. I wonder if it will ever go back.

here govt seems confuse until now as they announce to open one day and on other day shops are closed forcefully so complete shut down

  50. It looks a bit risky on that bridge, as there seems to be no pedestrian walkways. Our worlds are smaller, indeed, but it’s nice to take in some fresh air by a lake that is so pretty, appealing and near.

  51. Love the remoteness of the walk you found - even if it was on the road. Our Emergency decree has been extended for another month and we are not allowed to leave Bangkok, would love to walk in nature but instead will happily take a wander with you Eileen! Stay healthy.
