Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Happy Father's day to all the Dads!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
I am sharing some of my yard birds, these are seen daily at my feeders and in the yard. I have been enjoying the bird sounds in my yard too. I have Gray Catbird and a House Wren that seem to have a competition going on who can be the loudest.
Two female Downy Woodpeckers are hanging out on the pergola, waiting for a chance at the suet feeder.
This looks like a young Blue Jay. I have seen the Blue Jays and the Mourning Doves spread out like this before. I assume they are drying or sunning their wings.
I see a few female Cardinals on my deck, usually more often early in the morning and later in the evening they appear.
Thanks to all my visitors and for all the wonderful comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post. Check back later for replies to your comments.

I could check my backyard right now, Eileen, and two out of those three species would probably be there. Downy Woodpecker visits too, but nowhere near as often as during fall and winter.

I must agree with many comments above, that Blue Jay posing all splayed out is an awesome shot, Eileen. I hope you're well, Happy Father's Day (in Australia, Father's Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in September. Father's Day is in June in a fair few countries, but is actually on about 17 different dates around the world. Apparently the main reason it is held in September in Australia is because we have a lot of other special days around April /May and holding it in September is better for sales!)
ReplyDeleteHello Nick,
DeleteIt is interesting that Father's Day is on different days/months around the world.
Thank you for the comment! Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy new week!

Happy Father's Day to your hubby Eileen. We guys have to stick together you know. You have some very dependable species visit your yard because of your feeding regime. Birds do sun themselves sometimes. I have seen it too. I'm sure the Blue Jay is warming up in the morning sun. Thanks for the link today.

Young blue jays can be very homely and at times hard to recognize as a blue jay.
ReplyDeleteHello, Red
DeleteThe young birds feathers just seem fluffy or not groomed, lol.
Thank you for the comment! Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy new week!
Hello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos of the woodpeckers, the young blue jay and the female cardinal.

I love watching birds sunbathing. It is like they are luxuriating in the warmth and feeling happy and contented because of it. I also love watching them taking a dust bath or splashing in the bird bath - perhaps I just love watching birds LOL :)

ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment! Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy new week!
DeleteI had to take the bird feeder down because of a squirrel and then he brought a friend. Between the two of them they broke one of the feeder windows, stupid squirrels. I miss the woodpeckers and cardinals, they seemed to be the most frequent visitors along with the finches. Great photos, especially the one sunning its wings, love it. I wonder if I should get suet instead or will the squirrels go for that too?
ReplyDeleteHello Jeanna
DeleteThose darn squirrels have broken a few of my feeders too. They can empty one of my feeders in half a day.
The squirrels eat everything including the suet. Thank you for the comment! Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy new week!
That blue jay image is amazing! I'm going to have to hop over to a site somewhere to hear a catbird call. I've never had one linger around here long enough to pick out its call. If they are as loud as the little wrens, I can imagine it's pretty loud around your yard. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteThe catbird can make many different sounds, it is amazing to hear one after the other. Thank you for the comment! Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy new week!
Love the way you captured the Blue Jay's wing.
