I always have some kind of back yard bird to share.. In the summer the feeders and birds do slow down some. Usually I can look out and see some kind of birds or squirrels and the chipmunks. The Downy Woodpecker loves the suet feeder. Some times I can see 2-3 woodpeckers at the feeder or waiting for a chance the feeder.
The male Downy Woodpecker is on the left and the female is on the right.
The Chipping Sparrows are seen in high numbers around my yard, the House Finch is an occasional bird at my feeders.
The House Wren is always busy filling up the bird houses. You can see this house is so filled up with twigs they are hanging out of the hole.
The male House Finch has a bright red breast and head.
June 24th yard birds: top row are the male and female Northern Cardinals, bottom row are a male House Sparrow and a Blue Jay.
Thanks to all my visitors and for all the wonderful comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

Oh Eileen sorry for the error ...can you delete my first link when you see this in the morning ? It’s only a quarter to ten here on the west coast but I must be too tired to try to link. I left my old one . Thank you. )). Not too tired to see how wonderful your birds are as always.

ReplyDeleteHello Anu,
DeleteI do love my woodpeckers too! Thank you for the comment!
Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
lol, how can the wren nest in this mess of twigs?? You are lucky to have them. This year I have only seen one wren and that was 3 months ago. I certainly wish there was mor of them. One birds makes no family :(
ReplyDeleteTake care Eileen. Stay safe.
Hello Monica,
DeleteI think the wrens just like filling up all the houses, to keep other birds from nesting near by.
Thank you for the comment!
Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
Hari OM
ReplyDeleteI have been enjoying watching a few different fledgelings as their parents wean them and they still think they can cry and be fed... YAM xx

ReplyDeleteHello Marie,
DeleteThank you for the comment!
Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
The woodpeckers here would eat suet all summer, but starting in spring they have to compete with the grackles and there's too many of them. We have a few Chipping Sparrows around - they're so tiny! Great photos!
ReplyDeleteHello Brian,
DeleteThose Grackles can eat everything in sight! Thank you for the comment!
Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
I love them all! We didn't have house wrens show up this year! We had a pair last year, and not prior. Kinda sad. I put up some extra nesting boxes!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting! Be well.
Hello Jenn,
DeleteTake care! Thank you for the comment!
Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
Thanks for sharing your yard pictures Eileen. As ever, you have a wonderful diversity of species that have lots of colour and attitude. I like a feisty bird!
ReplyDeleteStay safe still and thanks for the linky today.
Thanks Phil! These wrens are feisty! Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
Deletemy yard and bird feeders look about the same as yours. i have not seen a decline in birds this summer, i think i have "lazy birds" that don't want to forge for there own food. i think they like the handouts!!!
ReplyDeletebeautiful pictures today you have such a nice variety of birds. i cannot believe what the wrens have done to their home!! do they even fit inside??
have a wonderful weekend, and many thanks for hosting us crazy critter people!!
Hello Debbie,
DeleteI think the nest was actually in another birdhouse or opening. They just like filling up the houses, they are busy birds. Thanks for the comment. Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
As usual, a lovely selection of birds, Eileen. This cardinals are certainly conspicuous!
ReplyDeleteThank you Nick! Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
DeleteI just think the House Finch is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Rose! Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
DeleteBeautiful birds!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting Saturday's Critters.
Have a good weekend!
Thank you Lea! Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
DeleteYou wonder how the House wren fits in there! Thanks for hosting, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteThank you! They are silly birds, filling the whole house up! Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
DeleteNice variety of back yard birds! I have seen only one House Finch locally over the 16 years we have lived here in south Florida. No House Sparrows ever yet on the local wetlands preserve, although they sometimes show up in shopping center parking lots.
ReplyDeleteHello Ken, I usually do not see the House Sparrows. They are seen more around the parking lots. I have seen some inside Walmart. Thank you ! Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
DeleteI haven't had any wrens this year. One year they filled up my downspout and I didn't notice.
ReplyDeleteHello Red, the downspout is a bad place for a nest. Silly bird! Thank you for the comment.
DeleteEnjoy your day, happy weekend!
Great captures of your local birds. A very nice variety that I see here, except that it’s been very quiet for the sparrow visitors. Haven’t seen any of those in a while. Enjoy your weekend Eileen and thank you for all these fun posts you do for us.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and commenting Denise! Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
DeleteHow wonderful to have such variety of our feathered friends in your own backyard and great photos !

Thank you Carol! Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
DeleteLove these pictures! I'm a bird nerd. A few weeks ago I bought a birdbath. Put it out under the trees. Not one single bird has visited. I am so disappointed.
ReplyDeleteMore awesome yard birds...I don't get House Wren only Carolina nesting in my yard. They make a nest almost anywhere this year they built one in my big Potted Hosta. They fledged 3 and now I watch them catch insects in the dogwood by the window and they are learning how to use the feeders too. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThings slow down at our feeders too. You got some nice shots. Happy weekend, and thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteThe Chipping Sparrows are beautiful aren't they, I love them.
ReplyDeleteI think the house finches are such cute little birds. I see them often around here.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous bird photos! I really enjoyed seeing the little house wren. Not sure why I don't see those as much around here anymore. Wonder if they don't get along with the Carolina wrens? Seems like they sort of disappeared when the Carolina wrens started showing up. Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteYou really have such a nice variety come to your feeders. I don't think we have the same type of Wren here. Love the beautiful color of the house finch! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteVery nice !
ReplyDeleteI have both the male and female cardinal pair here this summer; in fact, the female used the bird bath while the male watched from the fir tree. If only my camera were handy for that one! By the time I got it, they were just flying off. Thanks for sharing your great photos of all the lovely yard/feeder birds, Eileen.
ReplyDeleteNice. I had to give up on all my seed feeders due to critters.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen such a bright red on the male finch!
ReplyDeleteYour post today is a treasure. I enjoyed every minute here and want to thank you for participating at IRBB this week.
Gorgeous series! I love most the woodpeckers!... No, I love them all! So great!
ReplyDeleteHow nice to see birds visiting feeders! I really like woodpeckers but they rarely visit my garden!
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos !!!
Greetings
Beautiful and lovely birds.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots!

I love the little House Finch---we have them here by the ton. Nice shots

Do you think those bird houses are built with wrens in mind? How handsome the red finch is. I've only seen the yellow ones who aren't hanging out too much after the squirrel and his pal beat up my feeder. I've been thinking of trying suet and like the looks of your holder, but after watching the gymnastic squirrel bet it wouldn't have a problem getting at it like the seed feeder.
ReplyDeleteI put out suet for the birds before we left of Georgia this weekend and I expect I'll need to refill it when I get home...they do have their favorite! I do enjoy by visits here! Wishing you well and a grand week!
ReplyDeleteYou have the same birds that I do that come to my feeder. I have a birdhouse that remained empty this year. I love to see the sticks and twigs peeping out like that!
ReplyDeletei had wondered if that would make sense .. when i wrote my post ... so like you have a 2 story house ... apparently there were 2 families ... or maybe it was brother and sister. so it was a outhouse that was not directly on top of each other ... like sort of side by side ...but a floor in between ...so all was well ... 2 me that means it did not a 2 story out house ...but whatever ... guess it makes your town famous ... or at least it makes folks check it out .. a "double take". great shots. i saw Woody (pileated woodpecker) saw him several times this week. ( ;
ReplyDeleteChirp, chirp. You get a lot of sweet birds visiting you. Mockingbirds and blue jays come around at least once a day. Some fast diving brown birds like to swirl through the yard in the afternoon. If there weren't so many neighborhood cats, including Molly, I'd try putting up feeders in the yard.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see all of your colourful yard birds.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
What a wonderful collection. So glad your house wren is settling in. Well done! Have a lovely week, Eileen.
ReplyDeleteLovely birds!
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to see and read the names of the birds you capture with your camera, Eileen.
