Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Happy Saturday! Have a great weekend!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
Most days I am found watching my yard birds. I usually see a nice variety of birds in my yard. On this day I watched a Carolina Wren, a House Wren and a Woodpecker spread out on the deck railing.
A Downy Woodpecker looks like a young one begging for food. It was spread out on the railing like it was airing out it's wings.
The House Wren seems to have taken over a few of my birdhouses, they chase away any bird that comes close. to "their" home.
The Carolina Wren stops by the feeders and deck for a snack.
A Brown Thrasher made an appearance on this day, sat on the deck railing looking around..
We try to take early morning walks on the local fire road. We've had a streak of hot humid days, it is best to get out early. On this day I watched 3-4 Worm-eating Warblers. I managed to catch 2 of the Worm-eating Warblers in the same tree. The other 2 warblers kept moving around the same area. Their sound or song is one I have become familiar with over the years. They have black and buffy head stripes and they are a small bird 4 1/2 - 5 inches long.
Thanks to all my visitors and for all the wonderful comments. If you like, stop back for any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

Tomorrow in the morning the air is different, for me it is still pretty cool on the coast due to the wind. It was exciting again with the young bird who is a false woodpecker but looks like this. These are all beautiful scenes.
ReplyDeleteI wish you and your husband a nice weekend, hugs Elke
Hello, Elke
DeleteYour weather sounds nice, it is still humid here.
Thank you! Have a great day and a happy weekend!
Great captures of pretty birds visiting your yard. I have some birds visiting my small garden but they are too fast and flew off before I could take any decent picture of them. Have a beautiful weekend and stay safe.
ReplyDeleteHello Nancy,

Dimi...
Hello Dimi,
DeleteThe House Wren is a naughty bird, but still cute!
Thank you for the comment!
Take care and stay well!
Have a great day and a happy weekend!
wow, you have two kinds of wrens? How wonderful. We have one, Winter wren, and rarely seen. But I happened to see one yesterday, the first one in 4 months. :)
ReplyDeleteDowny Woodpecker really seem to be too hot. Great shots of it. I like when it is "action" shots of their daily life.
We don´t have the hot humid weather over here it is either hot or cold. With some showers now and then.
Take care!
Hello,
DeleteI missed seeing our Winter Wren last year. I think I heard one. Thank you for the comment! Have a great day and a happy weekend!
Hello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of your yardbirds!
The Downy Woodpecker is so pretty.
Have a nice weekend!
Thank you Marit! Have a great weekend!
DeleteBeautiful photos, Eileen. The birds are very nice to see. Thanks for hosting and have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bill!
DeleteHave a great weekend!
...I love the Downy Woodpecker! Thanks for hosting, have a fabulous weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tom!
DeleteEnjoy your weekend!
You have a wonderful selection of birds so close, Eileen. Worm-eating Warbler is an extreme rarity this far north. I have seen more of this species in Central America during our winter months than I have ever seen in North America,
ReplyDeleteThanks David. I do live close to a bird hot spot, at least that is what I heard.
DeleteHappy birding, enjoy your weekend!
Eileen, I just had cataract surgery, It's tough reading right now. Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteI just cannot visit too much! I thought I'd check in, though.
Have a great one!
Thanks Jenn! I wish you a speedy recovery! Take care!
Deletethe Downy Woodpecker seems to have struck an unusual pose their Eileen. I'm sure you are correct, it appears to be a young bird and quite unsure of itself. It needs to be careful of predators sitting around like that. Your Huse Wren looks so much like our common Wren - Troglodytes troglodytes, but I know they are a little different. Thanks for the linky today and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
ReplyDeleteHello Phil,
DeleteThe birds seem to like sunning themselves on the deck railing, I have seen different birds posing the same way. The wren is a cutie! Thank you! Have a great day and a happy weekend!
I had a tap-tap-tap on my tiny balcony in this apartment building this morning. Then a humming bird came to the feeder, but I still heard definite woodpecking going on. And so I stood at the door and saw a flicker going for breakfast in the post of the overhang...then he flew to the next balcony to do the same. Since we often have wood bees and other insects in these posts, I think he had a good idea. Then he was off to find another source.
ReplyDeleteHello Barbara,
DeleteI see the Flicker here more in the winter. We hearing them tapping on the nearby trees, never the house.
Thank you for visiting and for the comment! Have a great day and a happy weekend!
Great photo of the young Downy! We have several pairs, but I've never seen a youngster. Love the wren!
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian! Have a great day and a happy weekend!
DeleteQue lindas fotos!Adorei ver e aqui sempre belos exemplares. Gosto muito!" bjs, chica e lindo fim de semana!
ReplyDeleteThank you Chica! Have a great day and a happy weekend!
Deletewe have had the same weather and we have not been able to ride our bikes. (we bike, you walk, you do have to get out early)
ReplyDeletethis is a nice variety of birds, the brown thrasher looks like a cool bird, one i am not familiar with! and those house wrens, "squatters" for sure!! the woodpecker looks injured, i have never seen one "lay" like that!!
have an awesome weekend eileen, and many thanks for hosting!!!
Hi Debbie,
DeleteI do like the cooler weather for walking, these days of hot humid weather feel awful. The woodie was fine, just sunning on the railing. Thank you for the comment! Have a great day and a happy weekend!
Nice yard birds! Those House Wrens can be very territorial. I hope you send those Worm-eating Warblers down our way this fall. I do not see them every year but they are one of my favorites. Never heard them sing.
ReplyDeleteHello Ken,
DeleteYes, this House Wren has taken over my yard. Thanks for the link-up, visit and comment. Enjoy your day!
I'm always amazed to see the photos here ... beautiful birds love to stop by near your house. I would love to see a Woodpecker bird
ReplyDeleteThank you for the visit and comment. Enjoy your day!
DeleteYou've got some pretty yard birds. Thanks for hosting, and have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHello Terri,
DeleteThank you for the visit and comment. Take care! Enjoy your day!
The baby downy looks so helpless. Other than the Downy, I haven’t seen these birds. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHello Marie,
DeleteThe Downy was just putting on an act, it was fine. Maybe sunbathing.
Thank you for the visit and comment. Enjoy your day!
I love the mosaic you made with the Wren photos. That's the wren we have here...they are so vocal and cute! Enjoy your walks. I wish I could go more often. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteHello, Diane
DeleteThe Wrens are vocal, I think they are loudest birds in my yard.
Thank you for the visit and comment. Enjoy your day!
I have never seen a worm-eating warbler but I have seen gulls and black birds fighting each other over earthworms
ReplyDeleteHi Sandra,
DeleteWe are lucky to have some warblers breeding in the forest next to our home. I see different species on our walks. Thank you for the visit and comment. Enjoy your day!
So lovely to have these birds as regular visitors to your garden, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteHello Nick,
DeleteThank you for the visit and comment. Enjoy your day!
I love this time of year, seeing all the fledgling, and your woodpecker is so darned sweet. Each and every photo is priceless. Got Hurricane Hanna knocking on our doorstep...want to visit everyone I can before we lose power (that's a certainty!)
ReplyDeleteHello Anni,
DeleteStay safe from Hanna! Thank you for the visit and comment. Enjoy your day!
Hurricane Hanna. ...I think it's over. Power went out yesterday about 1 pm...didn't get any A.C. until it was restored about 9 this morning. High winds, sporadic heavy rain, and last night tornadoes all over the area. No damage for us except lots of small branches.
DeleteThanks for stopping by and linking up this weekend. Bud & I have a bit of clean-up to do, so my visit is short.
Hello Anni,
DeleteI am glad you survived the storm, not too much damage. Take care!
Fine looking birds in your Critters post...this time of year a lot of the birds are looking a little bit weird, I had a young downy in the dogwood by the window laying on a limb in that same fashion, I think he just got tired and decided to take himself a rest. Hope your weekend is a good one.
ReplyDeleteHi Sondra,
DeleteThe young birds do look funny, especially when they are begging for food. Or just sunning themselves.
Thank you for the visit and comment. Enjoy your day!
PS: Thanks for hosting, Eileen. Have a great new week and stay safe!
ReplyDeleteThanks again Nick! I hope you have a great new week!
DeleteA great collection today. The house wrens are definitely bullies. Our young ones flew the coop; the RG cleared out the box but mom and dad are still noisily guarding the abode daily. Happy day.
ReplyDeleteHello, Gayle
DeleteThese wrens are very loud and bossy. Thank you for the visit and comment. Enjoy your day!
The downy woodpecker looks hot. Love the wrens. We have a Carolina wren nesting on our front porch. Very loud, but fun to watch. Happy Saturday!
ReplyDeleteHello, Betty
DeleteThe wrens may be loud but I still enjoy seeing them in my yard too. Thank you for the visit and comment. Enjoy your day!
Wonderful macro shots of our 'feathered friends' ~ favorite is the little downy woodpecker ~ ^_^

Thanks Dee!

Amending my comment:
ReplyDeleteIt was not a wood thrush. Just looked at photos and that wasn't it. :-(
Brown bird, white breast with brown stripes on the side. Sweet song.
Maybe the Ovenbird, they seem plentiful lately.

Hello Eileen, thanks for allowing us to post even really super late! Today I'm posting super early for me. Your sweet tweeting bird friends are so enjoyable! I have several friendly wrens that don't seemed bothered by me, which just maybe I'll catch a cool photo too! Enjoy your weekend stay safe and cool! It's an excessive heat warning in place for us, but it won't last long. It's Minnesota.

That baby downy is awfully cute, even though he doesn't appear to have any eyes. What fun here today! I love your Wren.

Thank you for the visit and comment. Enjoy your day!
Very nice !
ReplyDeleteThank you for the visit and comment. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!
DeleteThose blooming Wrens do the same thing here, Eileen!! They always try to chase all the other birds interested in using the nesting boxes away. The are cute but so darn noisy, aren't they?...:)jp
ReplyDeleteHello JP,
DeleteThese wrens are all very loud and very bossy! No one is aloud near "his" houses.
Thank you for the visit and comment. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!
Those wrens are so cute. And that woodpecker looks like another demanding youngster, waiting...
ReplyDeleteHello Kay,
DeleteThe youngster are very demanding, always begging for food.

The little Downy is so sweet... how nice of him to take his sunbath where you could get a good picture ! I can’t seem to get outside early in the morning any more , I know that’s why I miss seeing birds.
ReplyDeletei tell you about my toad ...or frog ...which ever ... he/she is really picking on me ... came into the garage and i did try to get him out. no issue picking them up if they will allow that. but he didn't want that ... so all night i heard him jumping around down there. but then i think he finally got out when i had the door open for a while. i see he likes the area where we keep our recycle and trash cans ... he gets bugs ... it is so so funny!! have a cool AC kind of week. ( :
ReplyDeleteAww - so pretty!
