Saturday's Critters # 348

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

On one of our local fire road walks our bird sightings included a flock of Cedar Waxwings eating the berries in bushes next to the fire road.

I think the Cedar Waxwings are beautiful birds.

Back in the yard is the Clearwing Hummingbird Moth.

The Scarlet Tanager sat in this tall pine tree, he was singing the whole time we were there.

A few of the birds we saw from our local fire road walk, a flock of Cedar Waxwings, Scarlet Tanager and the Brown-headed Cowbirds.

Also, in the yard on the butterfly bush is the Monarch Butterfly.

The male Scarlet Tanager is a beautiful red color with black wings.

Below, a juvenile Cedar Waxwing showing off it's dusky streaking on it's underparts. A group of Waxwings is called an Ear-full, I have come to recognize the sound of the Waxwings.

Thanks to all my visitors and for all the wonderful comments. If you like, stop back to see replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

Here is my linky:

Also visit:  I'd-Rather-B-Birdin. Thanks to the host Anni.

The Waxwings are a common sight in Finland and I have learnt to recognize the sound of a group of them too. They are delicately musical.
Have a lovely and musical weekend!

Nice balancing act by the Cedar Waxwing in the second photo. The Scarlet Tanager really stands out with the vibrant colour. The butterfly is pretty. Great selection of critters, Eileen. Have a great day and a wonderful weekend. Stay safe!

I love the waxwings. Beautiful shots of yours. I did not see any of ours last winter. I guess they stayed in the forest as it was quite warm. Nice to see a juvenile. I have never seen any as they don´t breed in my area.
The Scarlet Tanager is probably one of the most elegant birds I know. Love it and your shot is gorgeous.

The Clearwing Hummingbird Moth has a face on it´s neck. Did you see it?

I have a surprise for you in my post :)

Take care!

Waxwings and a Scarlet Tanager would certainly make my day! Actually Cedar Waxwings seem to be on every berry bush right now; they have young to feed. Scarlet Tanager is never easy here.

I agree Eileen. Your Cedar Waxwings are quite beautiful. If only I could see more of our own similar Bohemian Waxwings but they come here only in some winters from Europe, not every time. And of course the Cardinals against the dark green conifers really stand out don't they? Never heard of that collective name for waxwings but I can see why it's true - in the years I see them anyway.

Many thanks for the links today. Have a lovely weekend.

...a wonderful collection, some of your birds I rarely if ever see, thanks!

Pretty photos. I enjoyed the monarch butterfly on the butterfly bush. I haven't seen too many monarchs by us, we do get a lot of swallowtails though which are also pretty. Have a great weekend.

Some bears who think our garbage is their dinner...leaving a mess behind. But they are so cute (babies at least). I wouldn't want to be walking along and run into them, however.

Cedar waxwings are not only beautiful but are very late nesters and nest in a small flock.

I adore Cedar Waxwings...I just think they are so pretty. We had to rescue a nest of three little ones when the mother did not return (a few years ago). Took them to the Ottawa Valley Wildbird Care Center and was able to check in and find out they all three thrived and got released back near where we found them.
So many lovely photos in this post, Eileen.

I have seen hummingbird moths but only in the desert, not here.

Pretty butterfly! I have only ever seen Cedar Waxwings twice in my life and both when on vacation in another area. They are such a pretty bird. It has been a while since I saw a hummingbird moth also. I find them fascinating. I have never seen a Scarlet Tanager either, or many of the other birds you share. Always great to see through your camera lens. Thank you Eileen, and a happy weekend to you.
