Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
I am way behind sharing photos from our walks and outings. These images are from our last visit and walk at the North Point State Park in Baltimore County, Maryland. We like hiking on the Black Marsh Trail, it takes us past some wetlands and wildlife sightings. We walk the loop trail just far enough to see the Chesapeake Bay then we backtracked.
1. My sightings from our walk, Slider Turtle, Little Blue Heron, Northern Rough-winged Swallows, Double-crested Cormorants, Belted Kingfisher, Swallow, Great Blue Heron, Darter Dragonfly, Red-shouldered Hawk and the Swamp or Rose Mallows
2. The Little Blue Heron is one bird I can usually find at this park, Usually I can see juveniles, the Mottled and the adult Little Blue Heron. On this visit we only saw one adult Little Blue Heron, which is ok I am happy seeing just one.
Below you can see the bicolored bill, the blue body with the maroon head and neck. they are about 24 inches in length.
3. Little Blue Heron with it's catch.
4. I am pretty sure, in other words guessing the birds below are the Northern Rough-winged Swallows.
5. I tried for a closer look at this Swallow. These swallows do not have the shiny look on their feathers that show up on a Tree Swallow.
6. A pretty look at a Great Blue Heron seen from the trail.
7. The Red-eared Slider is the most common Slider turtle seen in Maryland.
8. A Red-shouldered Hawk looked to be on the hunt, looking down at something we couldn't see.
9. Looking out at the Chesapeake Bay, I could see a "gulp" of Double-crested Cormorants. The word "Gulp" is a name used to describe a group of Cormorants.
Not a critter, but a cute photo of my grandson enjoying his first sunrise at the beach.
I hope you enjoyed my birds and photos from our walk at the North Point State Park, it is one of my favorite Maryland State Parks.
I am also linking up to Anni's blog party found here I'd Rather B Birding Anni always has some beautiful birds to be seen on her blog, check it out!
Here is my linky:

Great selection of critters Eileen especially the Little Blue heron however my favourite shot is of your very happy grandson. I am laughing to myself when you say you are behind in showing us your photos. I am ALwAYS far behind as I often take my camera on my walks and come back with many shots and in 1 day's walk, could have enough shots for a week's posts!! Thanks for hosting, stay safe and have a great week ahead.
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret!

I live and learn, Eileen. I did not know that the collective term for a group of cormorants was a gulp. They certainly do gulp down fish!
ReplyDeleteThank you David!
DeleteTake care, have a happy weekend.
Such a sweet happy baby and beautiful background. That looks like a wonderful birding location. (The light collars on the swallows suggest they may be Cliff Swallows. I could be wrong).
ReplyDeleteThank you Ken!
DeleteI am still not sure about the swallows.
Take care, have a happy weekend.
Wonderful photos, Eileen. I love the little blue heron and the turtle. Have a great day and weekend. Thanks for hostine.

What an adorable grandson you have! The sunrise suits him. Haha … we are all critters in this world sharing the same need for a healthy environment to thrive. I’m grateful for legs but wouldn’t it be neat if we also had wings to fly like the birds in your photos. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment and link today!
DeleteIt would be neat to be able to fly like a bird.
Take care, have a happy weekend.
Buen avistamiento de aves. He podido disfrutar de cada una de las especies de tus fotografías, pero la que más me ha gustado es la simpatía del niño pequeño de la última foto.

ReplyDeleteThank you Adam!
DeleteThe Little Blue Heron is a beauty!

Hi Eileen...loved seeing your birds from your walk, and especially learning about a gulp of Cormorants! I wonder if a group of Anhingas gets the same phrase, since they also like to dry their wings after diving for fish! Hope you have a lovely weekend, and thanks for comments on my blog!
ReplyDeleteThank you Barbara, I appreciate your visit and comments.
DeleteA group of anhinga or cormorants may be called a colony too.
Take care, have a happy weekend.
We usually see regulars when we go to an are but what really makes the trip is the different things we see.

Hello Eileen,:=) As always a delightful selection of photos. I have never seen that type of swallow before, They look tiny and cute. I also didn't know that a group of Cormorants are referred to as a Gulp. Good capture of the Red Shouldered Hawk and Love the Blue Heron captures, and your descriptive narrative. Last but not least, your grandson is adorable, he looks so happy and with the sunrise in the background your photo is picture perfect.

that´s an interesting Swallow. I like what I see. Are they as swift as the other species?
ReplyDeleteYour grandson is a real sweety :)
Thank you Monica!
DeleteHe is a sweetie!
Take care, have a happy weekend.
Dear Eileen, that's the first I ever hear of a Rough-winged Swallow. I loved the images and your description of the Little Blue Heron. Interesting collective noun for cormorants. A gulp. And of course, your grandbaby is too precious. Thanks for sharing and also for hosting this meme I have added mine. Have a great week. Jo
ReplyDeleteThank you Jo!
DeleteI am always happy to see you linking up, I enjoyed your Ibis nest images.
Take care, have a happy weekend.
Oh, my, your grandson is so adorable...such a little sweetie!
ReplyDeleteLove all the birds you get to see.
Thank you Rose!
DeleteTake care, have a happy weekend.
Great capture of the birds and other species from your marsh walk. Here many marshlands are destroyed by dumping garbage to turn it into residential plots. But still, the birds continue to visit those places, and many die in the polluted environment as well. I'm glad to see fresh marshes there where birds enjoy the purity of nature.
ReplyDeleteBtw. Your grandson is cute. Have a great weekend.
Hello Jeevan, thank you for the comment and visit.
DeleteTake care, have a happy weekend.
Always wonderful (for us LOL) when you can capture actual prey in their beaks. Never knew what a group of cormorants was, thanks for that tidbit. Water is such a wonderful draw for different critters. But the best of all was your photo of that gorgeous boy!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jocelyn! I found the Gulp of Cormorants on google. Our grandson is adorable.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and happy weekend!
I love herons and swallows, such pretty birds and such efficient fishers. Turtles are always a favourite too. Wish there were some here.
