Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
I have lots more photos from our getaway trip to Chincoteague Island Virginia. The Chincoteague Island NWR and National Seashore are favorite places for us to visit. These images are from our 2nd day of our 3 day trip. There were lots of ponies and birds to see, the sunrises and the sunsets.
1. Atlantic Ocean sunrise on the beach with the Sanderlings, Tricolored Heron, rabbit, Brown Pelicans with Gulls, juvenile Little Blue Herons with Tricolored Heron and Yellowlegs, Black Skimmer with Terns and Gulls, American Oystercatchers and a Green Heron.
BTW, if I am wrong with any of my bird id's I do not mind being corrected. Please let me know.
2. A mix of juvenile Little Blue herons, one Tricolored Heron, guessing at the Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs and one Great Egret.
3. Double-crested Cormorant, Black Skimmers and I am guessing the larger Terns could be the Royal Tern at 20 inches. The Royal Tern at 20 inches looks bigger than the 18in Black Skimmer standing nearby.
4. Chincoteague ponies, some of the egrets had a pony ride.
5. Ponies, Egrets and on the far right is a Tricolored Heron flying by.
6. Two American Oystercatcher with a Gull.
7. White Ibis, juvenile White Ibis and a Snowy Egret mixed in. I had to zoom in for a close look at all those pink legs.
8. Chincoteague National Seashore beach, a mixed of White Ibis with various Egrets and herons, two deer standing near the wildlife drive and a sunset at Tom's Cove.
9. Various White Ibis, Snowy Egret and why does the larger white bird have a dark colored bill? Is it a young Great Egret without the yellow bill?
10. Numerous White Ibis and various Snowy and Great Egrets.
11. The end of day 2, sunset at Tom's Cove Chincoteague Island NWR.
If you are ever in the area, I highly suggest visiting the Chincoteague Island National Wildlife refuge. I hope you enjoyed my post and photos. I am looking forward to seeing your critter post.
I am also linking up to Anni's blog party found here I'd Rather B Birding Anni always has some beautiful birds to be seen on her blog, check it out!

The sunrise on the beach looks stunning. I have never seen white ibis with red legs over here...really fascinating! Thank you for sharing those beautiful shots of nature and animals. Have the most wonderful weekend, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie! I do love seeing a sunset or sunrise at the beach!

Gosh so such to see Eileen. I would so like to have been with you to see all the different birds and those gorgeous ponies. The Great White Egret's bill changes colour to nearly black in its breeding plumage. You can see in that close up shot that there is still a little yellow on it but mainly black. Thanks for hosting, take care and have a wonderful week ahead
ReplyDeleteHello Margaret, thank you for the comment on the Great Egret's bill.
DeleteHave a happy day and a great weekend!
Hello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteYou are showing so many lovely birds. The White Ibis is very beautiful.
Take care, and have a great weekend!
Hello Marit,
DeleteThank you for the comment!
Have a happy day and a great weekend!
Hello Eileen,:=) This post is a joy to see.:=) You captured beautiful images of the wildlife in the Chincoteague Island. How wonderful that so many different species of birds have found a save haven in this wild life sanctuary. Your sunsets are spectacular, and I enjoyed seeing the ponies with the Egrets on their backs. This is something I have also seen in the Algarve, the two species like to be together, and it always makes me smile. A must see place for every wild life enthusiast.
ReplyDeleteHello Sonjia,
DeleteThank you for the comment and visit.
Have a happy day and a great weekend!
Hi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos and collages you could make during your trip.
All photos are perfectly sharp, my compliments.
The sunset is really amazing.
Would you mind posting my link, I can't do it myself.
I wish you a good weekend.
Greetings Irma.
Hello Irma,

Hi Eileen. So wonderful to see your photos. I really miss the travelling days when I was able to see this. The beautiful ponnies seem to have some feathered friends as well. :)
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see rich wildlife, thanks for sharing them!
Thank you Monica!
DeleteI wish it was safer to do more traveling.
Have a happy day and a great weekend!
Wow! Amazing large flocks of birds!

Have a great weekend!
Thank you Lea! It is fun to see these large flocks of birds.

Love all your photos, it looks like it was a great trip. My favourite photo would be the egrets sitting on the backs of the ponies, who don't seem to be minding at all :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment and visit.

Dearest Eileen,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all your photos of your trip to Chincoteague Island Virginia very much! So beautiful, all the waterbirds - it is an enchanting sight to see all the (mostly) white plumage so close together nd funny to see the pony-riding white egrets :-)
Last week I only hat Italy-photos without any critters, but today I'm happy to join you linkup again with some goats, Sheep, some bees and a dragonfly...

DeleteHave a happy day and a great weekend!
Nice pointing out on egrets having pony rides, and the Chincoteague seems to be a refuge for a variety of water birds, and the seashore open to spectacular sunrise and sets. You got great shots on the egrets and ibis in close range. Have a pleasant weekend
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeevan!
DeleteHave a happy day and a great weekend!
To see Cattle Egrets perched on the backs of other animals always holds a special appeal for me. It is something I have not seen for quite a while. I can see that you had a wonderful visit in this area. Have a great weekend. David
ReplyDeleteThank you David! It is a wonderful place to visit.

A marvellous selection of animal photos again this week, Eileen. The bonus is gorgeous skies and lovely landscapes!

PS: Thank you for hosting, Eileen! Have a great new week.
ReplyDeleteThanks again Nick!
DeleteHave a great new week!
The array of birds you capture always impresses me but this collection blows me away. Especially all those white ibis (which I've never seen in person) mixed with the egrets. They are stunning. With a simple red border, that would be the most glorious holiday card! Truly lovely. (And finally, something to share again!)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanie, I appreciate the comment.
DeleteHave a happy day and a great weekend!
I'm with David, those cattle egrets are a hoot!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting! Happy weekend.

ReplyDeleteOs deseo un buen fin de semana Eileen.
Un abrazo.
Hello Laura, thank you for the comment and visit.
DeleteHave a happy day and a great weekend!
What a nice variety there. I still wonder if we've ever seen a Snowy Egret and just didn't realize it. Hard to tell with the bird without the yellow bill. I'm just now getting used to seeing a Little blue that is all white! lol Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane! I am sure you have seen the Snowy Egret during your Florida hikes.
DeleteHave a happy day and a great weekend!
Great pictures today Eileen. I can hardly believe all of those ibises and egrets in the last bird picture - so many to look through for a birder and as a photographer. It's so funny that last week all the local twitchers got so excited about a single ibis that is not even rare, just uncommon around here. Thanks for the link today. Once again, it's good to join in with so many like minded people.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil! I probably miss seeing birds, not taking the time to look at each and every bird in the group.
DeleteHave a happy day and a great weekend!
Hari OM
ReplyDeleteEvery one of these, a gem! YAM xx
Thank you YAM!

Hi Eileen, Thank you for sharing Saturday's Critters #410 and for taking us along to the Chincoteague Island NWR and National Seashore. Not only did I enjoy your critter photos, but your sky photos as well. As always, your collages are so neat! I imitated you by putting a collage into my newest post ... please let me know how you like it. :-) I hope all is well with you and your family and wish you a happy weekend and week ahead. John
ReplyDeletePS Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ... :-)
Thank you John! It is fun making the collages for my blog. I usually have too many photos to share on one post.
DeleteHave a happy day and a great weekend!
Hi Eileen, Thank you for the reply and for your comment on my blog! I wanted to answer your question about cruise ships. Yes, usually when ships are finished with their Alaska cruise season they immediately head to points south for the winter. Some start cruises down to Mexico and on to South America. Others go through the Canal for service in the Caribbean. Less often they will go north around the Pacific rim for service in Asia and Australia. The Ovation of the Seas has been an exception to all of my observations over the last few years. This year she arrived back in Seattle from Alaska on Oct 15 and stayed moored at Pier 91 for about a week. It appeared that she had a minimal crew on board. Then, she moved out to the middle of Elliott Bay and anchored there. Probably less expensive than being moored at the Cruise Terminal Pier 91. Lastly, I noticed she headed north out of Puget Sound on Saturday, but returned this morning (Sunday) and is now anchored over near Bremerton. I looked on the Royal Caribbean website and she that she is not scheduled for another cruise until next year. I am very curious about what is going on but don't know who to ask for information. :-) Thanks again for your question. Happy week ahead to you. John
DeleteThanks John, for the info on the Ovation Cruise ship. I wonder if the ship needs service and is not able to go far?
DeleteIt seems like the ships should all be in the warmer climate areas for the winter. Have a great day and happy new week!
Love all of those pink legs, Eileen! You had another good trip!
ReplyDeleteThank you RedPat!
DeleteHave a happy weekend!
Loved seeing these birds (and ponies!) and since I'm not often able to see a sunrise in a beautiful place, I'm awestruck when you shoot a photo of such, with birds too! Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Barbara! The ponies are my favorites.
DeleteHave a happy day and a great weekend!
HI Eileen, it's so good to see all the waders together, and the sun shots over the water are very colorful...and I loved the pony riders, that is such a great place, we need more of that in the world. The coastal areas of SC have been ravaged by the developers and it's such a sad thing to see. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sondra! I am glad this section of the coastline preserved and made a national wildlife refuge.
DeleteHave a happy day and a great weekend!
Interesting that in most shots you get a large number and variety of birds.
ReplyDeleteHello Red,

Hello Eileen, What an incredible photo with the ponies and the Egrets all enjoying their spots, and at the same moment a heron flies in too! Outstanding capture. Your visit there was so rewarding for us as well, almost like being there too. The weather held out nicely too. Enjoy your week ahead, we're having a bit more normal temperatures at the moment, and my peacock's water pails all had a thin layer of frozen ice on them. The one inside our pole barn still okay. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen! I hope this winter is mild, so far we are having temps above normal.
DeleteHave a happy day and a great new week!

ReplyDeleteThank you Denise! Have a great and a wonderful week ahead.
DeleteEileen - what an incredible number of birds. They must have been reading the signs directing them to the Refuge! I also particularly liked the sunrise photo in the top center of the first collage - gorgeous! I was also amused by all the egrets hitching a ride on the ponies. Are they eating bugs off the ponies?
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie! It was a treat to see the egrets riding the ponies.
