Welcome to Saturday's Critters!
Hello and happy Saturday!
If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
Hubby and I took a short day trip to the Conowingo Dam and the Susquehanna River State Park to see the Bald Eagles. In November the Bald Eagles gather at the river just below the dam. Previous years the Eagle count was close to 200. I think we went a little too early, we will make another trip soon. We saw numerous Double-crested Cormorants, various Gull species, Turkey Vultures and the Black Vultures and the local resident Great Blue Herons. The Ring Billed Gulls dominate but the Herring Gull and the Great Black-backed Gulls can be seen too.
1. Below on the dam walls, are a few immature Bald Eagles, Double-crested Cormorants with a line of Gulls, 2 Great Blue Herons with a Bald Eagle, immature Bald Eagle with a few Black Vultures.
2. There was 3 immature Bald Eagles perched on the dam wall.
3. One of the many Bald Eagles seen at the Susquehanna River and Conowingo Dam.
4. A Bald Eagle, Black Vultures and an immature Bald Eagle with a fish perched on the tower.
5. A line up of Gulls and a group of the Double-crested Cormorants.
6. Below mixed in with the rocks are an immature Bald Eagle, adult Bald Eagle and the Great Blue Heron.
7. Some views of the Susquehanna River State Park.
8. Below images are the Golden-crowned Kinglet on the left and the Downy Woodpecker on the right.
Thank you for visiting, for linking up and for the nice comments.

Thanks to all my visitors and for your comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.
I particularly like Bald Eagles because they resemble our Brahminy kite. I liked the Downy Woodpecker. The shot of sun with reflections in water is nicely composed.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the nice comment.

Many beautiful photos. I love these posts because you show us many birds, like the eagles, that I will never see around here.
ReplyDeleteOn these days some cormorants are on the local breakwater.

DeleteHi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photos from your day trip to the Conowingo Dam and Susquehanna River State Park.
The pictures of the sea eagles are really great, here in the Netherlands only a few couples come for since the last few years, they were never there before.
Would you mind posting my link, I can't do it myself.
I wish you a nice weekend.
Greetings Irma
Thank you Irma! I always enjoy seeing the Eagles.

ReplyDeleteI know how excited I get when I spot one of our Sea Eagles... so to see these, particularly the young, proving a growing population, is wonderful! YAM xx

Bald Eagles are magnificent birds All your image are lovely Eileen. Thanks for hosting, take care and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret! The Eagles are magnificent.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
Nice slide show! Some of those immature birds could well be from south Florida as they migrate north in autumn to find cooler water. They have been tracked up the east coast, often to Chesapeake Bay and once even into New England and possibly Canada. We usually start seeing them again around December.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ken! The Eagles did find a good spot here for fishing.
DeleteThey are always a treat to see. Take care, enjoy your weekend!
The Bald eagles are majestic and always a welcome capture. The Woodpecker in the last shot is pretty and the Kinglet is very cute.
ReplyDeleteThe views of the park in the sunshine are relaxing. Must be a very nice place.
Happy Saturday and happy weekend to you!
Thank you Luisella! It is a beautiful park with lovely views.

ReplyDeleteThank you Bill! Have a great weekend!
DeleteHello Eileen,:= )The Bald eagles are doing well here, ...so many youngsters. It seems a lot of Bald Eagles to me, but the excitement of seeing more on your next visit to the dam must be a thrilling prospect. I will never see even one, how lucky you are to see them. The sweet Golden Crowned Kinglet, the Woodpecker and lake scene are lovely captures.:=)
ReplyDeleteThank you Sonjia! It is a great spot below the dam to see the eagles and other birds.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day! Happy weekend!
Oh, what a bird paradise, dearest Eileen!

A lovely selection of photos again today, Eileen! Have a great new week!
ReplyDeleteThank you Nick!

Such a wonderful selection of birds again. Love the heron especially. There are vultures here though I’ve never seen one. I find it difficult to photograph birds in the trees. You do such a great job of them.
ReplyDeleteThank you Marie! It is hard getting shots of the birds sitting high in the trees.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
Love seeing the Eagles!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
Thank you Lea!
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
PS: Thank you for hosting, Eileen!

ReplyDeleteThank you Barbara! We hope to visit again soon!
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
In "Loon Lessons", the James Paruk book I just reviewed on my blog, I was surprised to learn that as Bald Eagle populations have rebounded in many areas, they have become a serious predator of loons.
ReplyDeleteThank you David!
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
I sure miss our birdies. Thankfully we have deer and coyotes to entertain us! Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jenn! I like seeing your deer videos.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
Hi Eileen. It was rather a shame that you thought you were too early in the season to see the 200 eagles. Not to worry, now you have an excuse to go back and to get even more photos of those magical creatures. Two hundred eagles tells me that there is not much wrong with the population of fish in the river and the surrounding areas to support such numbers of birds, gulls eagles and herons. Have a great weekend and week ahead.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil! I am keeping my fingers crossed, hoping we see more on the next visit.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
Thank you for the comment!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy weekend!
HI Eileen, great shots of the Eagles, it's so nice to have the Kinglets back in the trees, the other day I saw one in a tree with a Carolina Chickadee, in my mind I combined the two and as I see a bird I always shout out the name and I said "Chicklet" surprised my own self...LOL I made up a name for the combo. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sondra! I am hearing lots of kinglets around my neighborhood. I like the name Chicklet, cute.
DeleteHappy birding, enjoy your weekend!
So good to see so many bald eagles in one place!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a treat to see the Eagles.
DeleteThank you for the visit and comment.
Take care, enjoy your day and weekend!
Wow. Eagles. I am impressed. And 200? I cannot begin to imagine! I fear the only thing I might have to share for a few months in the critter department is Lizize! So I'm glad to see all your wildlife!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanie! The Bald Eagle count can change every day, they hang out and then head off south?
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
Great selection of birds Eileen. I love Bald Eagles.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bob! I love the Eagles too.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
The river looks beautiful with the sun shining down! And it's neat to see the Eagles that are juveniles. Love your photos today! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane!
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
It was still a successful trip even if all the Eagles were not there yet, Eileen. There are still a few birds passing through here on their way south but most of the migration seems to be over.
ReplyDeleteThank you RedPat! This is a good spot to see Eagles migrating, stopping off for some fish to eat.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and weekend!
200 eagles is amazing and I am happy to hear this.. at one time they were almost extinct and here in Flordia were rare to be seen, but now they are every where. of course i don't see them because they don't come in my house, LOL..
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra! It has been nice seeing the Bald Eagles doing so well.
DeleteHave a great day and a happy weekend!

Those eagles are just so magestic. Make no wonder they are the great American symbol. Funnily I think I showed a Downy in my post today. Like just about everybody I confuse the Hairy and the Downy.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jocelyn! The Hairy is a noticeably larger bird.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day! Have a great new week!
Hello Eileen, what a great collection today, and so many of them all lined up, must be taking in the wonderful weather it appears to be. The Eagle is amazing, they are just the most commanding critter ever. Thanks for sharing and enjoy the week and have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with family too.

Seeing eagles never gets old, does it? I used to love seeing them all the time when we lived in Alaska. I see a few here around Harpers Ferry, but not like you saw, what a treat to see those young in's too!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen! It is always a treat to see the Bald Eagless.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day! Have a great new week!
How majestic the Bald Eagles! Unfortunately they aren’t seen in the wild in my country. Only in the three zoos, but feel sorry, I’d like them to fly freely.
ReplyDeleteYoko
Thank you Yoko! It is wonderful to see the Bald Eagles flying free!
