Saturday's Critters # 414

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

Hubby and I took a short day trip to the Conowingo Dam and the Susquehanna River State Park to see the Bald Eagles. In November the Bald Eagles gather at the river just below the dam. Previous years the Eagle count was close to 200. I think we went a little too early, we will make another trip soon.  We saw numerous Double-crested Cormorants, various Gull species, Turkey Vultures and the Black Vultures and the local resident Great Blue Herons. The Ring Billed Gulls dominate but the Herring Gull and the Great Black-backed Gulls can be seen too.

1. Below on the dam walls, are a few immature Bald Eagles, Double-crested Cormorants with a line of Gulls, 2 Great Blue Herons with a Bald Eagle, immature Bald Eagle with a few Black Vultures.

2. There was 3 immature  Bald Eagles perched on the dam wall.

3. One of the many Bald Eagles seen at the Susquehanna River and Conowingo Dam.

4.   A Bald Eagle, Black Vultures and an immature Bald Eagle with a fish perched on the tower.

5. A line up of Gulls and a group of the Double-crested Cormorants.

6. Below mixed in with the rocks are an immature Bald Eagle, adult Bald Eagle and the Great Blue Heron.

7.  Some views of the Susquehanna River State Park.

8.  Below images are the Golden-crowned Kinglet on the left and the Downy Woodpecker on the right.

Thank you for visiting, for linking up and for the nice comments.

I am also linking up to Anni's blog party found here I'd Rather B Birding   Anni always has some beautiful birds to be seen on her blog, check it out!

I particularly like Bald Eagles because they resemble our Brahminy kite. I liked the Downy Woodpecker. The shot of sun with reflections in water is nicely composed.

Eagles always inspire no matter how many times we see them in person or in your pictures! Thanks Eileen

Many beautiful photos. I love these posts because you show us many birds, like the eagles, that I will never see around here.
On these days some cormorants are on the local breakwater.

Hi Eileen,
Such beautiful photos from your day trip to the Conowingo Dam and Susquehanna River State Park.
The pictures of the sea eagles are really great, here in the Netherlands only a few couples come for since the last few years, they were never there before.
Would you mind posting my link, I can't do it myself.
I wish you a nice weekend.
Greetings Irma

Nice slide show! Some of those immature birds could well be from south Florida as they migrate north in autumn to find cooler water. They have been tracked up the east coast, often to Chesapeake Bay and once even into New England and possibly Canada. We usually start seeing them again around December.

Hello Eileen,:= )The Bald eagles are doing well here, ...so many youngsters. It seems a lot of Bald Eagles to me, but the excitement of seeing more on your next visit to the dam must be a thrilling prospect. I will never see even one, how lucky you are to see them. The sweet Golden Crowned Kinglet, the Woodpecker and lake scene are lovely captures.:=)

Such a wonderful selection of birds again. Love the heron especially. There are vultures here though I’ve never seen one. I find it difficult to photograph birds in the trees. You do such a great job of them.

In "Loon Lessons", the James Paruk book I just reviewed on my blog, I was surprised to learn that as Bald Eagle populations have rebounded in many areas, they have become a serious predator of loons.

I sure miss our birdies. Thankfully we have deer and coyotes to entertain us! Thanks for hosting.

Hi Eileen. It was rather a shame that you thought you were too early in the season to see the 200 eagles. Not to worry, now you have an excuse to go back and to get even more photos of those magical creatures. Two hundred eagles tells me that there is not much wrong with the population of fish in the river and the surrounding areas to support such numbers of birds, gulls eagles and herons. Have a great weekend and week ahead.

HI Eileen, great shots of the Eagles, it's so nice to have the Kinglets back in the trees, the other day I saw one in a tree with a Carolina Chickadee, in my mind I combined the two and as I see a bird I always shout out the name and I said "Chicklet" surprised my own self...LOL I made up a name for the combo. Have a wonderful weekend.

How majestic the Bald Eagles! Unfortunately they aren’t seen in the wild in my country. Only in the three zoos, but feel sorry, I’d like them to fly freely.
