Saturday's Critters # 415

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving! Can you believe it is the last Saturday of November? The days and month have flown by.

These are some birds I saw saw during one of our walks to the lake. Usually I hear a lot of birds, it is hard to find them mixed in the trees and leaves and take their photos.  On this day, I saw and heard different woodpecker species.  Other birds heard and not photographed are the Red-bellied Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker,  Kinglets, Chickadees, Titmouse and Cardinals.

1. On the fire road I noticed 2 Northern Flickers. As we walked closer, they both flew up to the tree tops. We also saw a pair of Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers and out on the lake a few Double-crested Cormorants were hanging out.

2. Seen below are a pair of Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers.

3. The Double-crested Cormorants can be seen at our local reservoir.

4. The Northern Flicker posed for a photo.

5. The Double-crested Cormorants, one was drying it's wings.

6. Another capture of the Sapsucker.

7. We usually see the Canada Geese hanging out at the reservoir.

8.  Some colorful trees near the reservoir.

I am also linking up to Anni's blog party found here I'd Rather B Birding   Anni always has some beautiful birds to be seen on her blog, check it out!

Here is my linky:

Thank you for sharing your critters and post!

Thanks to all my visitors and for your comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

Dearest Eileen; I LOVE the collage of your first picture♬ I vaguely remember I could once take a picture of woodpecker;
Always happy to be able to see the rare birdy form your post. Cormorants are the bird we can frequently see in my neighbor And I AM happy that my husband got well enough to take me to "the natural park" to take pictures of birds two days ago; I could see Cormorants as well. Looking forward to post in your next week's link p;-)
Lots of Love; Miyako

Hi Eileen,
You took beautiful pictures during your walks.
I really like the Northern Flicker, the Sapsucker is also beautiful, you don't see these varieties in the Netherlands.
The last photo with the fall colors is my favorite.
Would you mind posting my link, I can't do it myself.
I wish you a nice weekend.

Dearest Eileen, the Northern Flicker posed really wonderfully for your photo! But I'm also very happy about your other bird sightings. And beautiful the "indian summer" of the trees! Today I can offer you Austria's most famous castle (Schoenbrunn) and its park - plus carriage horses, ducks, seagulls and crows :-)
Happy weekend

Lovely Autumn tones in all your photos today, Eileen, as well as some lovely birds. We have a cool and wet Spring here in Australia and a col Summer is also expected, all part of La Niña weather phenomenon this year.

Your birds are very pretty. I wonder why as kids we always thought “yellow-bellied sapsucker” was such a funny name. Thanks for hosting.

Hi Eileen, Another great walk and photos to boot, I really enjoyed seeing the Flicker, I see you got the male in your shot the Black Mustache strip is missing from the female, and the red shafted has a red one in the male. They are so colorful. Have a great Weekend!

Phil Slade said...

I'm seeing autumn in your photos today Eileen. Great colours in your trees picture. And something I have rarely seen here on the Internet - those two sapsuckers appear to be youngsters so I'm wondering if the adults bred later or these two young ones are pictured weeks ago? The Flickers are looking good too, always a pleasure to see this species. And what a great name, almost like we know them personally. Have fine weekend and thanks for the get together today.

Hi Eileen, Thanks for taking us along on your walk to the lake. I really admire your location and your ability to go out on walks with so much beautiful nature to enjoy and, of course, capturing the critters for us! :-) Picture #4, the Northern Flicker, just a perfect capture! Picture #8, the trees near the reservoir, perfect autumn photo. Thank you for sharing and thank you for hosting Saturday’s Critters! Happy days ahead to you and your family and say HI to Wyatt! :-) John

I've seen the damage a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker does on a tree, but I have never seen one, or if I did, I did not know it's identification. The magnolia tree we dug up had rows of holes in different areas, and one of my blackhaw viburnums that is still alive has rows of holes on many of the older branches. It reminds on of a monster, probably helped along by the sapsuckers damage. Beautiful photographs. I haven't seen a flicker forever it seems.

Jeevan said...

Excellent capture of the birds, and I particularly liked the details on the woodpeckers! The fall colors are mesmerizing. Have a great weekend

We see flickers and sap suckers up at the float cabin. The flickers are the most problematic, they like to drill into cabin walls to make nests in the insulation. You can close it up until the chicks fledge. At least they don't drill through to the interior. - Margy

RedPat said...

I always love these walks that you take us on, Eileen. Most of the birds have left here for down south now except for those that stay all winter. If I had wings I'd head for the warmth!

eileeninmd said...

Thank you Margy! I hope you do not have any damage from the woodpeckers pecking at your cabin.
Take care, have a great weekend.

Thank you RedPat! I am happy to see these woodpeckers in the winter season.

Hi Eileen
Happy post Thanksgiving! I hope you had a very enjoyable celebration
I loved seeing the yellow bellied sap sucker bird in your photos--I never saw one before and the beautiful cormorant.
We have had unusually warm weather in our part of Colorado this autumn so we are still seeing some summer birds like robins. It's very odd and a bit worrisome for the lack of snow pack this time of year.
