Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
Happy April! These are some images from March, more birds sightings and some grand dog photos taken during our walks on the fire roads. The weather continues to be crazy, from warm temperatures to below freezing, rain, snow and sleet and lots of windy days.
1. March 14th there was some snow left on the fire road, we had about 4 inches the day before. The Pine Warblers love the forest around our home, I hear them every day during our walks and from my yard.
2. Grand dogs Nibbles and Winnie on one of our daily walks on the local fire road.
3. I have some peanuts in the shell that I put out on the deck railing for my yard birds, below are the Northern Cardinal, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Tufted Titmouse, Northern Flicker and a Blue Jay.
4. The trail next to the lake, Prettyboy Reservoir. The grand dogs love their walks.
5. March 15th again we found the Trumpeter Swans at the lake in a different spot, this sighting is closer to home.
6. Still a distant look at the Trumpeter Swans.
7. March 16th our walk with the grand dogs, Mourning Dove, a distant Brown Creeper high in a tree and bottom images are the Hermit Thrush.
8. March 18th, a pair of Eastern Bluebirds visited my yard and checked out the bird houses. I think a Chickadee had already claimed the house they wanted to use.
9. March 19th our walk to the lake with the grand dogs.
10. March 19th, I noticed a Pileated Woodpecker at a wood pile in the back of our yard. While watching this bird, it flew across the driveway to the woods to meet up with it's mate.
That's all folks, I have been enjoying our walks with the dogs, birdwatching in my yard and neighborhood. Now, I am looking forward to seeing your critter post.
Thank you for sharing your critters and post!

Dear Eileen,
ReplyDeleteit was so nice to accompany you on your trips with the grand dogs and to see several big and small birds. And the bird watching at your home is wonderful too. I always find the colorful ones particularly stunning, because there are not that many of them in our region. The Cardinal of course stands out, but the Eastern Bluebird and the Blue Jay are also a show. Luckily, I can sometimes observe Woodpeckers in Austria - I'm always happy when can I see or even photograph some. (But I haven't been able to photograph a couple yet. What joy, soon more woodpeckers will be flying through your forests!)
Happy weekend! Have a good time!

Thank you Traude! I love seeing all the birds, the woodpeckers are favorites.

The blue birds are so beautiful! Have never seen them here..well, I wouldn't have recognize them if I did see them around. This Sunday there's a course on how to identify 30 bird species and the sounds they make in our community...I think it will be held somewhere in the woods. We are planning to go and learn :-) and it's a gratis course...so, why not?
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie! I hope your enjoy your bird watching course, sounds like a fun time.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your weekend!
Eileen, que lindos passeios nos mostras com a neve ainda presente, trilhas, os lindos cachorros amigos, as aves, adorei tudo! Que o fim de semana seja lindo também! beijos, ótimo fds! chica
ReplyDeleteThank you Chica! We do enjoy walking the grand-dogs, lots of fresh air and exercise thanks to the dogs.
DeleteHave a happy weekend.
What a beautiful place for a morning walk. Our weather has been cold, wet and windy, discouraging the long walks to which we had become accustomed in Florida. Those swans are a great find-- glad they are still there.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ken! I hope the weather warms up soon for your walks. I did enjoy seeing the swans.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your weekend!
The trail next to the lake seems to be dangerous to walk on. As usual, a lovely capture of birds and other things from the walk. The swans' whiteness is pretty flashy! Have a great weekend
ReplyDeleteHello Jeevan, thank you for your visit and comment.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your weekend!
When I see this beautiful forest, it makes me wonder what it must have been like when most of the land was forested, and the sound of the wind in the trees and the tinkle of flowing streams, were characteristic sounds. We will never have those times again.
ReplyDeleteThank you David! We do enjoy living next to this forest, the sounds of nature are all around us.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your weekend!
Enjoyed seeing your walk through nature, Eileen. The soft tones of the Trumpeter Swans photo created a peaceful soothing scene.
ReplyDeleteThank you Maria! The Trumpeter Swans were a treat to see!

ReplyDeleteThank you Jo, for the link and comment.
DeleteHave a great day and happy new week!
Loved seeing the trail so close to the water, and my thrill would have been to see those swans. I think I've only ever seen those which are tamed to stay in a pond. I can't believe how you can catch photos of some of those fast birds! I would still be just looking at them...blue birds, woodpeckers (which of course announce their presence) et al.Have a great weekend Eileen!
ReplyDeleteThank you Barbara! I was thrilled to see the Swans on our lake, a new bird for my area.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your weekend!
You live in a very lovely part of the world Eileen. And it all looks so quiet and peaceful. No wonder you both like taking the grand dogs on their walks. I can’t help but think hubby is a little camera shy?

Thanks Phil! Yes, our home is surrounded by a forest park like setting.

DeleteHello Eileen, Please forgive me, for I completely forgot to post a comment when I added my link, and it is such a delightful post too. A senior moment no doubt, of which I have many these days.:=( I also put out peanuts for the Jays, but the Woodpecker which I can hear pecking away at a nearby tree hasn't yet appeared. Your post is full of beautiful images of the birds you see on your walks with your Grand-dogs. You do live in a beautiful place, and I enjoyed your post very much.

As always a lovely post, your granddoggies are enjoying their walks with you and I'm sure love to see all the birds and other critters in your woods. As you know, I walk among my juniper trees, but sometimes I miss a walk in a "real" wood, or better yet, forest. Have a nice rest of your weekend.

beautiful place and critters :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Monica!

On rare occasions we get to see Trumpeter Swans on Powell Lake. It's funny, they are more common in town on small Cranberry Lake. Maybe the shallow lake gives them more food options than our deep lake with sheet granite cliffs. - Margy
ReplyDeleteThank you Margy! The Trumpeter Swans were a surprise to see on our lake, the first time seeing them here.
DeleteTake care, enjoy your day and new week ahead.
A nice day for walking and seeing some beautiful birds!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment, link and visit. Take care, enjoy your day and new week ahead.
DeleteI wish I could see cardinals near our house (even here in Florida we have to drive somewhere before we see them). Your grand-dogs are good boys to let you stop to take pictures of birds when they are out on walks with you ! Prettyboy Reservoir is a good spot for birding and I love the name!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sallie, I appreciate the visit and comment. I have seen some great birds over our years living near the Prettyboy Reservoir. Have a great day and happy week ahead.
DeletePS: I loved the memory from Oregon in your Monday post (I know you don't want to deal with comments there but I couldn't resist thanking you!!! -- Yachats is one of our favorite destinations on the Coast and not too far from our home there!!!
ReplyDeleteSallie, Yachats was one of my favorite places on the Oregon Coast. We were hoping to get back there some day.
