Happy Mother's Day to all Moms, have a great weekend! 🌹🌹🌹
On April 20 hubby and I flew from Baltimore-Washington Airport to Phoenix Arizona, it was a fly-drive trip. Arriving in Phoenix we picked up our rental car and drove 6 hours to Page Arizona for the start of our vacation. Thinking back on this it was a mistake to fly for 5 plus hours and then drive for another 6 hours with little to eat. On our first full day in Page, we had reservations for the Upper Antelope Canyon tour. Hubby had a low blood sugar episode before he could eat breakfast. He was fine after the EMT's, hotel worker Suzie and a guest who was a nurse checked him over and the orange juice was very helpful. So, I ended going on the tour and hubby stayed back at the hotel resting.
1. We reserved a Navajo guided tour through the slot canyon called Upper Antelope Canyon
It was nice they refunded my hubby's ticket price since he could not make the tour. It was upsetting since it was a highlight of the vacation for me and hubby. Below are some photos from the tour, the tour was only a total of 3/4 mile walk.
Our trip and hubby's health improved for the rest of our trip. The weather was very hot at times, 103° on the day we headed south to Phoenix from Page.
I am linking up to Heidrun's Mosaic Monday I hope you can stop by and visit Heidrun and check out the Mosaic Monday post.
Thanks to all my visitors and for your past and present comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves and respects wildlife. Thank you for linking up a critter post.

Hope the man's health is okay now, that is scary when asway from home and usual doctor. What colours there. That terracotta is amazing.
Good Morning, Eileen. I read about the low blood sugar episode of your husband. What a danger during a journey. I hope, he is soon well. The travel must be an adventure, indeed. The pictures teils about. Thank you so much for sharing... and of thank you too for hosting again this fine Linkparty.
Hugs by Heidrun, wish you and your husband a very good week
I am so sorry that your husband was unwell and could not join you on that part of the trip. I am happy to hear though he recovered. What a wonderful trip and your photos are gorgeous!! Thank you so much for hosting and a very happy weekend to you both.

Sure! Here's a shorter response:
I'm glad your trip got better, and your husband's health improved. The bird sightings and pretty pink cactus blooms are beautiful.
I’m sorry to hear that your husband had to miss that highlight of the trip because he wasn’t well. And it’s good to hear about the rest of the trip when your plans went well. Your photos are very beautiful. I love Arizona, especially for birding, but I haven’t been to those locations.
Thanks for hosting all the creatures… best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Amazing canyon!
The caves look so amazing. The birds are also very beautiful
Hi Eileen. You have already seen my post for today. But I link up anyway as others might not have visited :)
Hello Eileen,
It must have been a wonderful trip to Arizona. The Canyon is very beautiful. The cactus flowers are very pretty. Take care, and enjoy your weekend!
What fascinating places Eileen!
Hello Eileen,
What a great series of photos these are from your trip to Upper Antelope Canyon tour.
The first two photos are my favorite.
Such a shame that your husband couldn't come here with you, I hope he is doing better now, low blood sugar levels should not be underestimated.
I wish you a very nice weekend.
Greetings Irma
Thanks God the situation got back to normal and you both could enjoy the rest of the holiday.
You had a taste of the upcoming summer. Thanks for sharing your photos.
Happy weekend and happy Mother's day!
i am really sorry that your hubby could not join you for the canyon tour at first dear Eileen !
it was relief to know you guys were together in rest of the trip once he felt better . I agree that the 6 hour drive after five hour flight can be tiring for people of our age my friend .
we had made mistake once when we travelled to Kashmir and guess what we whole family felt sick for next few days .though in our journey we rode van and bus were instead plane and riding time stretched beyond our limits .
thanks for the breathtaking photos of canyon ,this is dream place to visit and your shot is truly amazing wow!!!!!!!!!!!
must be amazing to see such stunning place in few hours :)
wishing you and loved ones much more ones in future!
Stunning pics, so sad your Hubby missed this - beautiful! All of them, awww, the lizards! The bird sure chose a funny place to sit :-)
I look forward to hopefully see more of your trip! Have a great Saturday!
Hello Eileen :=)
The Upper Antelope Canyon has to seen to be believed as it's almost other worldly. What phenomenal rock formations and the sun shining on the curves and cracks makes it look like a wonderful piece of art work. It's such a shame your hubby was not well enough to join you.An episode like he had is very draining and he was wise not to exert himself and to keep out of the sun. I had a friend who also suffered from low blood sugar, and he usually carried sweets in his pocket, but on occasion he didn't, and became really ill. We searched for something sweet, and eventually bought a some chocolate which seemed to help. It was nice of the company to refund the money but only fair.
Spectacular images of the river and Dam and full marks for spotting the ID of the White-faced Ibis from so far away. I didn't know what they were, but recognised the House Finch.:)Thank you Eileen for such an interesting post, and also for hosting
Saturday's Critters.
Have a lovely weekend
All the best
Sonjia.
Oh, what a shame, dear Eileen, that your hubby couldn't go on the Antelope Canyon tour!!!
By the way, we were also in this area in March of this year! But we drove past Page - because we had already seen Antelope Canyon, Lake Powell and Glen Canyon Dam on our first trip to the southwest of the USA in 2012 - Click to see more: https://rostrose.blogspot.com/ 2013/02/usa-10-day-page-lake-powell-antelope.html
This year it was the turn of other attractions such as Monument Valley, Arches NP etc. (That was our reason for coming to this area again - and I think you now have a reason like that too! ;-) Maybe around "Balloon day"! And next time please both eat properly!!!)
By the way, we didn't see the Bighorn Sheep either, neither in 2012 nor in 2024 and generally very little wildlife in Arizona / Utah (apart from Antelope Island near Salt Lake City)... I'm glad that you at least saw the ibises, lizards and the pretty one House finch! And I'm VERY glad your husband was fine again!
Happy Mother's Day!
Hugs and all the best from Austria, Traude

Glad to hear that your husband made a full recovery and the rest of the vacation went off without a hitch. Arizona is a little too hot, both climatically and politically for me to even consider making a visit there!
...the Upper Antelope Canyon looks like tour of an art gallery. Thanks Eileen for hosting, enjoy your weekend.
As others shared, I'll add my sadness that your hubby was feeling "less than" and missed some of the tour. The canyon pics are beautiful, as cactus, and the capture of birds that were to be found! Any wild critters are often tucked away in the heat of the day, so I'm glad you saw those lizards at least. Thanks for hosting!
What a shame, but good you got help. This is why it worries me to travel.
What a wonderful spot. Your photos are amazing.
Thank you Jean, I appreciate the comment and visit. Hubby is doing well as long as he monitors his glucose regularly.
The colors of the canyon are beautiful, much better in person than photos. Take care, have a great day and happy new week!

Sorry to hear that your vacation was marred by your husband's ill health, Eileen. Just as well it all turned out OK and he is fine now. A lovely place that you visited and it brought back memories of our visits to the US in that part of the country. Thank you for hosting and have a great new week! Happy Mother's Day too! (Nick from MAP)
I wondered why you chose AZ for a vacation and now I know.. that canyon at the beginning is worth the trip all by itself. Totally a work of art! so glad he was ok the rest of the vacation. health issues when away from home are even worse than when at home... I have always wanted to visit the mountains in AZ, right now can't think of their name, now I think it might be Superstitions? will have to check it
The photos you took of the red rocks are phenomenal! I know your hubby hated to have that happen. I have the same problem and sometimes get so excited in things that I crash. It's scary. I hope we can be aware and I know he'll take care. Happy Mother's day my friend!
I hope that your hubby did get better after the rest. It must have been very frustrating for him not able to go on the tour with you. Those canyon picture are truly beautiful. Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you Nick, for your critter link and comment!
I was happy that hubby recovered quickly, it could have been much worse.
It is a beautiful part of our country to visit!
Take care, have a great day and happy weekend.
Thank you Sandra, for your comment.
It is scary getting sick so far from home, I am so glad hubby recovered quickly.
I have heard of the Superstition Mountains, they are not far from Phoenix. We missed seeing them on this trip.
Take care, have a great day and happy Mother's Day weekend.
So sorry about your husband’s scary episode Eileen. Good to know you were both able to enjoy the rest of your vacation. I enjoyed your photos very much. We were at Antelope Canyon many years ago and found it an amazing experience, also given by a Navaho tour group guide whowas exceptional. Happy Mother’s Day!
Fantastic canyon photos! So sorry your husband's low blood sugar made him miss it.
Beautiful cactus blooms.
Happy Mother's Day!
These photos are magnificent. Eileen. That canyon is magnificent and I'm so sorry that your husband wasn't well enough to visit with you. It sounds like the fly-drive plan would only work with a big long rest in-between the two. I'm just glad the rest of the time was good.I've been to AZ and seen some of its beauty but this is a spot I didn't see and would love. Thanks for the introduction.
It has been years since we have been to Antelope Canyon, so beautiful! Bummer your husband could not make it. You got to see come pretty unique landscape. flora and birds. Looks like a great trip!
I'm sorry he was not able to see that canyon. Beautiful landscapes.

Hi Eileen! This post is particularly delightful with views of the Antelope Canyon - the colors are very vibrant and the picture of the bridge showing the height hair-raising :) Thank you for hosting. Be well!

Canyon looks wonderful, Great series of photos.

too bad about your hubby...but a lesson learned for future trips, knowing that will never happen again. it looks like he missed a beautiful canyon and a great tour, i am so glad i got to see it here!! the hubs and i have always wanted to take a trip like this but the heat and walking would be a problem for me. i wonder if they allow scooters or if the terrain accommodates them!! i really enjoyed your images today...it's a beautiful day, i hope you get outside to enjoy it!! many thanks for hosting us critter lovers!!

No, a scooter would not be able to make it through the canyon walk, most of the ground is sand and there are stairs going up and down. Take care, have a great day and happy weekend.
Hello Eileen!! You take the best trips and take the best photos too -- What an amazing adventure, and I'm sorry your husband wasn't feeling well for part of it, but glad it wasn't anything 'too serious.' Thanks for taking 'us' along, I'd love to be able to see these amazing canyons and the desert too that is truly beautiful in a totally different way than what we see every day. What an amazing experience! --Take care, and thank you as always for your stops at my blog, and your cyber friendship! ❤
Thank you, I appreciate your comment and visit.
The canyon is amazing, so colorful and a great experience.

It's such a shame that your husband missed some of it, but lucky that it wasn't as bad as it seemed in the end.
Thank you very much for the great photos, I enjoyed every single one.
A hug from Viola
Hi Eileen,
It sounds like your trip to Page, Arizona, was an adventure, though not without its challenges! I’m sorry to hear hubby couldn't join the Upper Antelope Canyon tour, but I'm glad to hear he recovered quickly with some help. It’s good to hear that the tour operators were understanding and refunded his ticket. It’s great that you still managed to enjoy the beauty of the area despite the initial setbacks. It’s not so often that we see lizards on Saturday’s Critters! 😊 I enjoyed your photos! Thank you, as always, for hosting and sharing. Wishing you and hubby a happy week ahead.
John
The rock formation picture is stunning!! The little bird looks like he might get stuck!

Sorry that your husband had his health issue. I am glad he got better as the trip progressed.
Antelope Canyon is on my bucket list. You got some great photos.
We lived in Price, Utah when I was a kid and the family made several trips through Page while we lived there so we got to see the canyon before there was a dam, then the dam construction, and then the finished project. It was all very interesting to me.
I hope you have a Happy Mothers Day and thank you for hosting.
Thank you Yogi! I appreciate the comment. The canyon, dam and River scenes are all beautiful. Take care, enjoy your day and have a great week!
The low blood sugar incidents are scary! I so wish that had not happened. I bet you saw a lot of interesting stuff there.

Hi Eileen -- I am always so late commenting and I apologize (I always seem to link when I'm too tired to type anything, but then when I come back to comment it gives me a good excuse to look at your beautiful posts again! And this one was definitely amazing. We've been to all the National Parks in Utah and Arizona camped all over both states, but were never been able to visit Antelope Canyon. I'm pretty sure neither of us could do that hike now, so it has to be one of the things we missed; we just have to be grateful for all we did see of this beautiful country. I'm glad your hubby recovered completely, we've had times when Bill couldn't do one of the tours and it' was disappointing but it wasn't one that had been so specially scheduled -- I'm glad you went anyway (I've always felt bad doing that when he couldn't but we were always both glad afterwards that I went anyway just as I know you were.) Anyway, thank you as always for all you do blogging and for this great tour. Looking forward to your Arizona birds!
Thank you Sallie, for your link and for the comment. We planned this trip back in December and paid for the tour.
We were both looking forward to seeing this slot canyon. Hubby did insist on me going on the tour, thankfully he was feeling better before I had to leave. I would not have gone and leave him behind if he was still feeling bad. It is a beautiful area to tour, the national parks are wonderful. Take care, enjoy your day and the week ahead.
Good to read about the recovering of your husband!
Another round of MosaicMonday in beautiful May... and I am very happy about your contribution.
Thank you for your participation. Have a good time, best wishes from Heidrun
Thank you Heidrun, for being such a great host of Mosaic Monday. Take care, enjoy your day!
I am sorry to hear your husband missed on a highlight Slot Canyon visit. I'm glad you were able to share your excellent photos with him of the trip - incredible landscapes and lizards!
