HAPPY VETERAN'S DAY weekend!
Hi, happy weekend everyone and this is a long weekend celebrating Veterans holiday on Monday. The weather is so supposed to be beautiful warmer and sunny, Yea!! For this weeks post I am showing some of my yardbirds. A few are my winter birds and they all seem to be arriving together like the Dark-eyed Juncos, Fox Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows , Pine Siskins and the Red-Breasted Nuthatches.

This is a large red maple tree in our front yard, I was able to stand under the branches to take this photos. The Red Maple is surrounded by Spruce trees and a few hemlock trees where the birds were fussing all around me. I do not think they liked me being in their space. The ground under the red maple is covered with tiny red maple saplings growing.

In the mosaic above, top left is a male Cardinal, Dark-eyed Junco, Bluejay, RedBellied Woodpecker, Goldfinch with a Cardinal, Goldfinch with a Pine Siskin, White-breasted Nuthatch, Fox Sparrow and a Tufted Titmouse.

Usually, the Cardinals are camera shy but I was able to snapped this shot before he saw me.

Above near the Red Maple and under the Spruce tree we have some young Red Maple growing a little taller with some pretty ferns.

These large spruce trees in our front yard are one of the reason why the birds hang around our yard. Next to the house is a rhododendron that has grown taller than our house. I love having the large pine trees, it is nice seeing green year round.

Birds just love the safety and protection of those evergreens, don't they? We have a large cluster of them to the north of our house--we constantly get calls from loggers wanting to "help us" get rid of those trees. They call them worthless. Ha. That grove is FULL of birds and animals --especially in the winter.
I love seeing why so many birds enjoy your yard, Eileen. And you certainly have a nice variety to watch!

Hi Eileen, that Goldfinch is a sociable fella. What a lovely mosaic of birds in your yard and also the separate ones which are very clear and well- caught! I have never even HEARD of a Fox sparrow. Very, very nice Eileen. Love the little sparrow . . . We have many Spruce, Hemlock and White Pine near our house and the birds love to visit and fly out from inside the trees. A winter treat after the oak leaves have fallen. Exceptionally warm Veterans weekend here . . . in the 60's!

Fabulous shots of your yard winter birds. I liked the one of the finch and cardinal together as it gives an idea of the size of the birds. I love the red of the cardinal and the blue of the Bluejay

Today is the Marine Corps 237th birthday. And tomorrow's Veteran's Day --so, no mail on Monday I suppose. I'm sure I'll forget and check the mail box several times. LOL

Do love the way you 'frame' your birds and tree-scapes - sets-up all photos to good advantage indicating a good grasp of managing the technology as well as the camera! The birds and the way you have captured them makes for an interesting post!

Your photography is incredible. I'm finishing up a five month stay in India and, while I hear hundreds of birds chirping in the early mornings, I rarely see them - and no cardinals, blue birds or blue jays. The peacock is the state birds of India and I hear their mournful cry at night as they come home to roost in the trees. Wish I could see them prancing!
what wonderful photos! I love the cardinals! The chickadee is so sweet, really looks like its thinking hard over which seed to eat!

Hi Eileen, Great set of photos. You have so many of the same birds that I have.. I have never seen a Fox Sparrow though... Neat little bird.
VERY windy here today --with a cold front coming....
We were gone for several days this past week --so I put away my birdfood... Luckily, since getting home, the Pine Siskins have not returned. I'm glad about that since we had WAY too many of them hogging the feeders.

I so love your birds and the nice introduction to them. I am not as lucky with my attempts to capture them on camera. I've gotten a few while sitting in my car or watching from my window inside my home or my friend's, but up close and personal I have no luck. :-)
I don't want to sound like a broken record, but you have so many beautiful and different birds in your yard.
My common birds are bluejays, cardinals, and sparrows.
