This week I am featuring my Red-eyed Vireo. He/she showed up with a group of warblers one day.

The Red-eyed Vireo was posing so nicely for me, I just had to take some photos. Wikipedia calls the Red-eyed Vireo a small songbird, somewhat warbler like. That is what I thought at first, I was sure I was seeing a Worm-eating warbler. The warbler also has the dark stripes on its head and near its eye.

Above is one of my archived photos of a Worm -eating Warbler..It was seen in the woods near my house. You can see a similarity between the two birds.
The Vireo seemed happy to show me different sides and poses. The adult Red-eyed Vireo is olive-green with white underparts. They have a red iris and a grey-crown edged with black and there is a blackish line thru the eyes.

They like to eat berries, which probably brought them to my yard. I have tons of pokeberries and the devil's walking stick berries and there may have been some blueberries still hanging on the bushes.
I am still seeing different warblers moving thru my yard, I guess they are all happy with the berries and maybe some bugs. I hope you enjoyed my post and wildbird this week. As always, thanks for visiting my blog and for the nice comments.

Hi Eileen Two Warblers I have not heard or seen. I could not see the red eye. Very good shots of them both and lovely to see the difference.

They do have similarities - you have some challenging birds in the U.S.

the vireo is a pretty little thing!
They are very similar! It would be hard to tell them apart for me. Lovely captures!

I've never heard of the vireo. Such a cute little bird!
Lovely photos...they really look alike, but I can see differences in comparing your photos. Am sure I'd never spot those differences in real life though. You yard is a bird heaven.

They certainly are similar birds except for the stripes through the eyes. Why is it called a Red Eyed when the eyes don't look red?

Really great ID shots of this bird. If one came to Arizona, it would be a rare bird alert! We do get them occasionally....and they don't always pose:)

I am so sorry, I am so late...getting ready for a 3 week road journey and everything that could go wrong this week in preparation has happened and so I had to got to plan B ;(

Thanks for these shots of the Vireo, it's a bird I have wanted to see. I find it tough to tell many of the Warblers apart. We just had a magnificent invasion of Cedar Waxwing up in our wild cherry trees. They are my favorite bird, but I don't have a long lens and the cherry trees are 40 feet tall.
