George's Creek

I am linking up with   Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday

Hello, everyone.. Fall is almost here ( starts tomorrow the 22nd)  and I just can not believe how fast the summer went.. We had a cool summer here, not the usual hot & humid days that we are used to.. LOL, I feel cheated..

These are some photos from our weekend walk at our local George's Creek.. it is a creek that leads into our Prettyboy reservoir.. Hubby and I have enjoyed our walks along the creek each time seeing something different..

These are some of the scenes from our walk..the pretty Swallowtail and Fritillary butterflies. Some wildflowers and ferns seen along the creek.

Swallowtail and Fritallary butterflies..

I am not sure what these little orange flowers are called but, it was obvious the Ruby-throated Hummingbird was enjoying their nectar.

A sweet hummer, I will miss them when they head south.. I wish I could go with them.  I am not looking forward to this winter..

Some slider turtles sunning themselves on a log, an Eastern Box Turtle, wildflowers, Fritillary Butterfly and a Canada Goose.

I hope you enjoyed these nature scenes and photos.  I am glad you came along on our walk..

As always I thank you in advance for stopping by and for the nice comments.

I hope you can join in on our at  Mosaic Monday and   Our World Tuesday

Thanks to Judith our new host of Mosaic Monday and to the hosting group of Our World Tuesday: Arija, Gattina, Lady Fi, Sylvia, Sandy and Jennifer.  I wish everyone a happy week ahead!

looks like you had an abundance of butterflies this year, we usually do , but i think the really hot.humid summer that was a month longer than usual kept them away.. all the flowers are wonderful.. i saw on the news you are going to have a long cold winter. bummer..

Oh Eileen, every picture outdoes the previous one! I love the turtles and relieved that the heron can't handle anything that size! The Fritilary Butterfly looks heart-shaped. All the butterflies are so amazing. I ran after one today while Michael watered the garden, but couldn't capture it on film! I love your new header too. Thanks for all your kind and regular visits to my blog (and Ambrose' post !) I should be back on track again this week. Have a great day. Jo

We took a ride today to a family reunion in the rain. We couldn't help but notice the many fall changes . . . I too exclaimed, " how did the fall changes happen so fast!"
Wonderful photos Eileen . . .

So many butterflies and hummers to enjoy on your walk here. The orange flowers are a native plant called jewel weed and are also known as touch-me-nots. The last name comes from the seed head which is coiled like a spring and if touched, they shoot the seeds out and away from the plant. I played with a few one fall and it was neat how they worked.
Thank you for linking to Mosaic Monday Eileen.

Hi Eileen! I love the Joe Pye weed with the butterflies. We have a lot of that growing on our property, and those orange flowers too, that I also wish I knew what they were. The bees and the hummingbirds really do love them, so I do too! Let me know if you find out what they are, and I will too!

Hummers and butterflies, two of my favorites. I haven't seen any Hummingbirds in a couple of days. I suspect they are heading south for the winter.

It's wonderful seeing so many "weeds" blooming for the butterflies. Many don't realize how important these wild flowers are for our butterflies and pollinators to live!! Lovely!!

Lorrie said...

Wonderful photos of the flora and fauna near you. The hummingbirds are really busy getting the most of these flowers, aren't they?

I haven't seen any hummingbirds for the past week. Guess they are either gone or in transit. Your pictures are beautiful. We haven't had many butterflies this year. Have a good week.

Great photos, am glad I visited your blog Eileen. I linked up through www.craftygardener.com. The orange flowered plant, jewel-weed, (thanks Judith) also has medicinal properties. The juicy stems can be boiled in water to help take away the itch in poison ivy. I used to keep a container of the stems in my freezer when my children were small, "just in case".

Montanagirl said...

I haven't seen any more hummers lately. I think they've moved on. Your Mosaics are really nice!

Hi Eileen.
Yes, doesn't time fly. Summer is already over and I don't know where it went.As always your photo's are the best, love them all. Have a nice week

The little orange flowers are jewel weed. Sometimes they are yellow. The hummingbirds love them. A friend gave me seeds once and I planted them in my yard. A bit of a mistake since they re-seed prolifically and are now growing everywhere. Fortunately, they are easy to pull up so I take out most of them in the spring and leave a couple for the hummers and it works out just fine.

I cannot believe it's fall already either! But it's still looking like late summer in your photos...at least to me. ;))

Jewelweed - often grows near poison ivy. If you get into the poison ivy, you can rub the Jewelweed onto your skin to get rid of it!! Love your beautiful pictures!! What a lovely walk!

I heard the predictions is for a cold and snowy winter, Eileen, so I join in your lament that summer is over! We had a very rainy summer--very odd for Colorado--but there were no fires so that was good. The aspen trees are all in bright color now--very pretty! I will also miss the hummingbirds --I saw so many this year and even a hummingbird moth! That was such an unusual sight to see!
