Florida Scrub Jay

Linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes

For this week's wild bird I am sharing my lifer #448..the Florida Scrub Jay..

The Florida Scrub Jay was on my list of want to see birds while visiting Florida. I read that there is a nesting pair of Florida Scrub Jays near rangers station and not far from the visitor center. This was one of my must see stops while visiting the wildlife refuge..

He or she posed nicely for me, these two shots look the same..This bird is restricted to the oak-scrub community of Florida. The habitat is threatened with development and this Florida Scrub Jay is listed as threatened in the endangered species act.

\

So, I was pleased to see the Florida Scrub Jay in various spots during my Florida travels.. I hope you enjoyed my wild bird post.. Till next week's wild bird post.. I wish you happy Birding and have a wonderful week!

  10. How exciting to find what you hoped to see on your trip! The little creature is beautiful, but again, how sad that its space is disappearing in favor of more and more sprawl for greedy people. Your photos are always exceptional, but this time I love the one of the little jay amid the full green foliage. Wish people would just let those birds have their space so they could thrive in peace to the delight of those like you who respect them.

  47. Many years ago I got a personal tour of the Archbold Research Centre and its Florida Scrub Jay habitat from Glen Wolfenden, one of the senior scientists involved in the research. He was a very gracious man and I will always remember his kindness. He passed away a couple of years ago.

  48. Congratulations! What a great sighting.

  49. Wow, your photographs are fantastic! Congratulations on seeing these very handsome birds. I was lucky to have my first sighting of two this past March. It took me three years of trying, but it was well worth the search. Such beautiful jays. I hope more people take an interest in the Scrub Jay so its habitat can be restored.
