C & O Canal Trail

I am linking up with Skywatch Friday  and Good Fences
I hope you can join in on the fun and share your fence scenes and pretty skies.

For this week's Good Fence and Skywatch Friday memes I am sharing our day trip seeing the Owls on the previous post and our walk along the C&O near Point of Rocks, Frederick Maryland. The C&O Canal trail runs about 185 miles along the Potomac River from Washington DC to Cumberland Maryland. Hubby and I have done various sections of this trail, I enjoy seeing the river scenery, wildflowers and of course the birds..

The C&O Canal trail is an easy walking trail or if you prefer running, jogging or biking. Or like me just for birding.

On this day the Louisiana Waterthrushes were seen and heard all along the C&O trail. As you can see it was a pretty day with a beautiful blue sky.

Along the C&O trail there is an old house were you can make a reservation to spend the night. This is if you are hiking the trail and backpacking and need a place to sleep and rest from your hiking 185 miles. While walking we must have seen 4 or 5 trains pass us some were the CSX freight trains and one was an Amtrak.

BTW, I hope you noticed all the fences in the mosaic above near the house and bridge over the canal.

Hubby and I had to treat ourselves to some ice cream after our walk. Before and after eating our ice cream I took some scenic fence shots around and at the Rocky Point Creamery. The baby cow was tiny and adorable. I have never been up close to a baby cow house, it looks like a big dog house. Fences galore in the mosaic above, they keep the horses and cows safe.

A pretty sky shot. If I had a farm house I would definitely want a weathervane, they are so cool. I like this cow weathervane we saw while buying ice cream at the Creamery.

A pretty view of the sky and if you look closely a herd of deer running up the hill, thankfully they switched directions or they would have been running in front of our car.

Our walk was on April 18th and this moon shot above was taken on April 11th. I hope you enjoyed my post and photos. Thanks for stopping by and for the nice comments.

To see more pretty skies from around the world please visit  Skywatch Friday
and check for more fence shots at Tex's Good Fences

Thanks to Theresa @ The Run*A*Round Ranch for hosting Good Fences and thanks to Sylvia, Yogi  and Sandy for hosting Skywatch Friday.    I wish everyone a happy day and weekend ahead..

What wonderful sets of photos, Eileen! I've only walked along the C and O canal at Harper's Ferry, and the one at Cumberland, or is that a different canal there?

Oh what wonderful shots you captured. Love the pasture scenes, the fence and the baby cow is so sweet. I have never seen a cow house and how cute is that.
Love the bird shot with the pretty sky background. Your collages are fabulous once again.

Pretty trail with nice fences. Great sighting of the Louisiana Waterthrush. I think I must miss thrushes thinking they are just ordinary sparrows. Hmmm. I still have a LOT to learn.

Dearest Eileen; I just LOVED seeing your collages form C & O Canal Trail, gorgeous nature and I wish I could join the ice cream with you :-) And also liked you said 'just for birding'; I'm not a sports type so that would definitely the motive, haha. I've never seen the weathervane before, lovely one you showed here♡♡♡

I've never seen a baby cow house before! Is it for calving, or just for the little one to rest in away from the elements? The setup reminds me of a dog kennel. Very interesting! Loved all your beautiful shots. What a wonderful place to visit! (And I bet the ice cream was good!)

Ida said...

Fabuloust place to take a hike. That old house looks pretty cool and I think it's neat you can stay in it. Looks like spring is lovely there with the blooming trees and the green pastures. That baby cow was cute and I enjoyed all the nice fences and animals. Also how cool to see the herd of deer.

Eileen, you take the most amazing nature pics - WOW!!!

Hey, you may find it interesting that my big brother (years ago) as a college graduation present for himself walked the entire length of the Appalachian Trail - all the way from Maine to George! Over 2000 miles!

It took him 6 months and he came back so skinny and so hairy we hardly recognized him! Also, my firstborn was born on this brother's birthday, in August - and he wasn't even able to meet her until she was over 4 months old. Neat about his big walk, huh? Me? I can barely make it to the mailbox and back, haha.

Such scenic views along the canal trail. I did not know a baby cow house even existed. It is like a giant dog house.

I used to hike along parts of that trail when I was a kid (e.g. Great Falls) but that was a long time ago.

I've never heard the name "Louisiana Waterthrush" until now.

MOO!

Wishing you a very happy weekend!

Hi Eileen,
Beautiful photos of a famous trail. I have heard of the C&O Canal Path trail through the Adventure Cycling Association - supposed to be great for bicycle touring. I keep thinking I will do it one day - hopefully, soon enough.
I am so happy for you that you got to go on this wonderful trail!
Have a Beautiful Day!
Peace :)

Great photos, what an incredible place to roam about. That house just in case for weary hikers is so very important! I remember once starting out on a hike and we got carried away, and naturally we had to turn around and trek the same out of miles back and it was after midnight by the time we returned. In was late spring, and the night was cold too! If only there was a place like that!

There must be some varied and exciting birding along those 185 miles Eileen. I'd be more than happy to see and hear so many Louisiana Waterthrushes like your photograph of that one.

The weather vane is indeed a cool looking object. So different from the usual ones.

I hope you have a lovely weekend. I'll link up tomorrow. Cheers.

You have so many lovely images on this post, I don't know where to start. I'm fascinated by the calf house - I've never seen anything like that here. Our calves would feel really spoilt if we provided such a thing for them. Love the moon shot!
