Prothonotary Warbler

Linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes and NF Trees and bushes
I hope you can join in and share your wild birds and nature scenes.

For this week's wild bird I am sharing the Prothonotary Warbler. I have seen the Prothonotary Warblers many times usually migrating thru Maryland but they also breed here. These birds were seen along the Susquehanna River Trail in Maryland.

This bird has bright yellow-orange colors on its head and chest.

The breed near or around the water and or swamps and in tree cavities. They are one of my favorite warblers and always a treat to see. I was playing around with Picmonkey trying to make a watermark. It would be nice to be able to watermark all images for one day at the same time.

The Prothonotary warbler likes to nest in tree cavities next to the water.

The is the Susquehanna River trail, plenty of trees to keep the birds happy.

I hope you enjoyed my wild bird post and photos. Till next week's wild bird post. Join in and post your birdies and to see more beautiful and wonderful bird and nature photos please visit:

Oh wow Eileen, I have never seen (or heard of) this warbler. It's strange for me to see a warbler in such a vibrant color. Stunning images and thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Greetings Jo

HI Eileen This is a very beautiful little Warbler with a big name. I hope you do not soil your fantastic shots as some have done with an unsightly watermark. For me to study the shot it is too distracting with a watermark.

Prothonotary - wonder how they got that name. Perhaps one flew into court one day.
It's a beauty.

I always enjoy your visits to the Garden Spot, but I enjoy your bird photography more. This warbler is grogeous. We don't have many warblers here, mostly those just passing through. I think they like more running water nearby and more leafy forests. We are on the plain prairie, so mostly nasty grackles this time of year. I always enjoy your wonderful photography.

He sure is a beauty and not a bit shy (noting the great bum shot :). I love your river scene and all of the trees. I just so enjoy nature and that looks like a cool, comfortable place to be.

If you figure out how to make a watermark, please share, because I agree, it would be nice. Thanks, Eileen ...

Beautiful golden feathers, and love that one of his rear view. Somewhere there is a way to watermark all your photos at one time? I'm sure another reader will be able to help with this.

They are so pretty! I saw them for the first and only time when we wintered in Port Aransas Texas... I really learned to bird there; it is a great place to see a lot of different ones because it is on two migratory paths.

Charming bird! I was curious about the name. Someone says prothonotaries wore yellow hoods; they were chief clerks of the courts.
