Hello, I am sharing another daytrip to Shenandoah National Park on Aug 26th. It is one of our favorite places to visit and an enjoyable drive. We like to hike on the Limberlost Trail and on this day we also hiked some of the Hawksbill Trail. It was nice to see the Dark-eyed Juncos off of the Limberlost trail and we enjoyed watching an Eastern Bluebird family while eating lunch at the Big Meadows.
For my Wild Bird entry these are the best bird images I could come up with during our visit to Shenandoah on this day. The top row is the Dark-eyed Junco and the bottom row a family of Eastern Bluebirds. I saw and heard lots of other birds but no photos.
The new bridge on the Limberlost trail, it is wider for the handicap access.
Somes scenes from our hike on the Limberlost Trail, some pretty wildflowers, gorgeous big ferns and some chicken of the woods fungi and the signpost labeling the trails.
Some wildflowers off of the Skyline Drive.
For NF Trees here are some of the trees of off the Hawksbill Trail.
I just love this tree with the hole almost heart shaped and the greenery growing inside.
The Hawksbill trail above, a whitetailed deer, some berries and unusual plant and blooms.
We noticed this plant growing along the trail the leaves had a lot of white on them and there were some unusual blooms. I am not sure of this plants id?
A view from the Range View overlook on the Skyline Drive.
Thank you for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed our visit to Shenandoah Nat'l Park. I also appreciate the nice comments. Have a happy new week!

Nice shots - I recall having to ask another birder on the US 'what are those birds' and they were Dark-eyed Juncos.

Our black eyed Junco's are a bit different than yours. I'll have to picture one sometime.

Good morning Eileen, your photos are a blessing this rather grey morning here. It's trying to rain! The tree with the greenery inside that heart is just priceless! My favorite of all your lovely photos. Enjoy your week ahead!
It's so funny, I have to share this. It seems once I label the day as I see it, without fail, as if to prove me wrong, it turns face and now the sun is bursting through! I just love it. I do hope it lasts!
Beautiful photos! Years ago we drove along the beautiful Skyline Drive. Maybe someday we will be back to walk a few trails.
Have a wonderful week!
The bridge on the Limberlost trail looks very strong and safe. The bench on the trail for resting and enjoy the nature. That's a nice name Chicken of the Woods Fungi, learning something new. And that's a great find, the big tree with a heart shaped hole with greenery growing inside. Really amazing!

Hi There, I enjoyed every single picture on this post... You know how much I love that area. The Shenandoah area along the Skyline Drive is a favorite of ours. We probably won't get back that way this year --but maybe next.. We will miss it. Thanks for showing all of those marvelous pictures.
Hugs,
Betsy
Shenandoah National Park is a beautiful place to visit in any season, and your great photos really show that! I almost took my friend there on Saturday, but we ended up at the apple festival instead.
Lovely scenery. I like your mosaics.
Hi Eileen, the numerous comments are incredible! I love walking through trails like you did, and when in NZ my sister and i just did like that. She was always ahead because she is not taking photos, while i always felt like i need more time. How wonderful to be inside those vegetation and enjoying the photography subjects. It could be so wonderful joining you in a photowalk.
Beautiful series of images. I especially like the tree with the greenery tucked away in the hollow of the trunk.
All wonderful images. I love that trail, bridge and the greenery in that tree.
The dark-eyed juncos are such softly pretty birds, not flashy, but elegant. Wonderful photos of your time in the park.
Have a great week.
Wonderful shots! I too love that heart-shaped hole in the tree.
Beautiful place and photos.
Greetings

I am so envious of your fall weather. You've been here many times but each time you go, you present something different. I like the tree with plants growing out of the hole. Enjoy the fall weather! So envious!
LOVELY shots...especially that bridge ( I felt as if I was there ) and that pretty tree hole where surely fairies dwell within :)
Beautiful! Was the Limberlost Trail named after the book, "The Girl of the Limberlost"? Your photos show flowers and such that remind me of the scenes in the book. This is another place I'd like to visit one day.
The View from the Top of the Ladder
Take 25 to Hollister
Eileen, Is that a new header? I think so. Love the monarchs. Sylvia D.
Amazing photos as always! I hope I can visit this park one day (or any park soon, I can't get enough of National Parks).
I love the heart shaped hole in the tree. It's nice they are making things more accessible for the handicapped. My daughter and I were walking in a park in MA and saw a man in a wheelchair on the trail. Very nice to see.
What a beautiful place to walk. I love that bridge!
The Eastern Bluebirds are pretty neat! The trail looks like one I'd love to hike or bike! Enjoyed your photos--ahh, and that range view is beautiful! Reminds me of the song Roy Rogers sang, "Don't Fence Me In." Oh give me land, lots of land, under starry skies: don't fence me in. Let me ride through the wide open country that I love; don't fence me in...
It's just a wonderful place and you are so lucky to live close! That tree with it's own garden blooming inside it is fantastic. As are all your pictures, as usual!!! Thanks for letting us walk along with you.
Lovely photos of one of my favorite places!
With your great photos I felt that i was walking in the park. Thanks for sharing! Have a great new month!
