Around the yard

Hello,

I will never forget Sept 11, 2001. God Bless us all!

Lately our walks have been closer to home, on the fire roads and to the lake. Here are some views of our lake, some shots from  my yard sharing more butterflies and birds.

One of my Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. They can be pretty feisty, I watched this hummer chasing other birds and even butterflies away from it's feeder.

A walk to the lake, we saw and heard a lot of birds and it was a lovely day for a walk. Top right is a Cormorant flying away,  Bottom row possibly a Common Yellowthroat Warbler and an unknown Flycatcher.

A view of our lake.

Below, the female (top) and the male (bottom) Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterflies.

The Chipping Sparrows are one of my common yardbirds this summer.

I wanted to share the giveaway gift I won on Jemma's blog I love the pretty towel set, spatula and the gorgeous sunflower print. Thanks Jemma! I hope you can visit her blog, Jemma shares many decorating tips, recipes and crafting ideas.

Here is another local barn in nearby Carroll County, A drive by shot during one of our outings.

More on what I have been reading, I enjoyed and actually laughed out loud at Jana DeLeon's "Ghost in Law" series. I read all 6 books in the humorous fun Mudbug series. Helena the MIL ghost was just hysterical.

As always, I thank you for visiting and as always thank you for the nice comments.  Have a great day and new week ahead!

Here is my list of memes for the week, I hope you can check one or some of these fun memes and the participants post.

  4. I could live in that barn, so quiet and peaceful all around, A lovely gift in the mail, and 9/11, today I read of the dogs who searched, saw photos, and the story of one, who lived long, and died earlier this year. Tributes have gone to so many, the people, the dogs, their handlers. fire service men and women, police and the everyday people, who all contributed so much. I remember the planes who were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, and after passengers from the 53 planes that landed there, the population doubled from its usual 10,400 ( an extra 10,500 passengers). They were taken into homes, hotels, motels, and cared for totally, by strangers who became friends. Schools and colleges were vacated by pupils, IT rooms made available, and trips and outings arranged.buses took them all back to the airfield at the arranged time, like
clockwork.Huge organisation behind the scenes, and I wouldn't have known any of this without the internet. This shows kindness can be anywhere in our world.
I always hope that peace will prevail. Hugs to you from a quiet and peaceful NZ.

  7. Eileen, thanks for sharing this elaborate barn, a style that I would never see is this area. Red and white certainly makes a statement. I hope that many more barns are along your journey. As always thanks for your visits.

  8. Eileen, I feel as though I took this walk with you! Everything is gorgeous! I, too, remember September 11, 2001, and even though I live in Canada, I remember exactly where I was when the horrific news broke out...I also remember not only the people were were impacted by this but the animals as well. Peace, love and hugs to you, dear Eileen.

Thank you so much for all your lovely photos.

  17. A lot of remembrances today, and I'm again reminded of how much was lost and how many lives changed forever.

Your series of photos are as always a tribute to your great eye for taking photos! I love the butterflies, and will admit, that I didn't know the difference between "the boys and girls" Swallowtails. So, you have taught me something - THANKS for that!! :-)

  54. God Bless us all indeed and your photos show His blessings :)

I remember being at work...we saw the news / some of us were outside on the front porch area... the other plane flew over. ( the Shanksville one )

It was awful...were we being attacked here in PA too? If THAT was the case, we thought the entire country might be under attack at the same time. It was so scary / crazy/ horrible...customers from around the world emailing and calling...having the Net and the TV on in the conference room trying to determine what was happening. No, I'll never forget!

  64. That hummingbird looks like he's giving you the evil eye! I notice some birds have been molting lately. It makes it difficult to ID the birds when they go into their winter colouring. Love that pretty lake. You are very fortunate to have such a lot of water near you to attract your feathered friends ;)
