Bombay Hook NWR

Hello,

Wishing everyone a Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Wow, it is September 4th already. Time is going way too fast for me. I would like to rewind to Spring time. I am sharing some photos from our day trip to Bombay Hook wildlife refuge in Delaware. The birds are on the move and heading south for winter.

I am sharing more birds and photos from our visit to Bombay Hook wildlife refuge. We saw large groups of Egrets along the wildlife drive. I believe they are mostly the Great Egret and some Snowy Egrets.

Sorry about the photo quality, they were all taken thru my car window with the windows closed and the AC blasting. It was way too buggy to open the window and too hot to turn the car and air conditioning off.   :(

Below are some shorebirds, the American Avocets, Semipalmated Plover and a Yellow Warbler.

Various shorebirds, gulls and terns foraging for food.

A Bald Eagle, a juvie almost with a white head.

On the drive to Delaware I managed to find a barn and farm scene for Tom's Barn Collective.

I hope you enjoyed our visit to the wildlife refuge, it is one of my favorite places to visit.

When we do not go on daytrips I can be found home reading. The weather does not always cooperate for walks or birding. Here is another book I enjoyed and can recommend "Undercover" by Danielle Steele. I am a fan of Danielle Steele and have read many of her books. As always, I thank you for visiting and as always thank you for the nice comments.  Have a great day and new week ahead!

Here is my list of memes for the week, I hope you can check one or some of these fun memes and the participants post.

Thanks to Tom the host of The Barn Collective
Thanks to Jesh for hosting Seasons
Thanks to Maggie of Normandy Life  the new host of Mosaic Monday
Thanks to Michelle for hosting Nature Notes
Thanks to the hosting team of Our World Tuesday!
Thanks to Stewart for hosting Wild Bird Wednesday

Thats a lot of egrets - the fisherman in men wonders what they were catching - and if there was anything bigger out there as well!

Happy Labor Day, Eileen-hope you're having a great weekend.

Avocets are so neat. The first time I saw them was in Montana on a back road --they were enjoying a marsh border. So fun to watch.

Love to see flocks of birds! I usually see only a few birds at a time here.
I've been reading the Miss Julia series of books by Ann B. Ross - very entertaining! (You would need to start at the first in the series to get all the characters straight)
Have a wonderful week!

Hi Eileen. The number and variety of birds in the egret shots and that fourth picture is amazing. I think I could have spent an hour or two just there. Or maybe not if the bugs and heat were too much for a Northern Hemisphere resident like me?

So many beautiful egrets! Your photos of Bombay Hook always have me wanting to get in the car and drive there - but it would take a long, long time. Have a great week.

Wish I could do spring time over again - this year it has been so beautiful! Many thanks for sharing all these water loving birds with SEASONS - much appreciated! Have a great week:)

Those are lots of birds in a grouping. I haven't seen such here, the migratory birds here are not as much as those. But that eagle surely is the top list. I know it is a carnivore, does it eat birds too?

Amazing shots. I'd love to see an eagle up that close!

Great shot of the Bald Eagle Eileen. I'd love to see an Eagle up close but they're a pretty rare sight here. We have Wedge Tailed Eagles in Tasmania but they must live in the more remote areas.

Hello Eileen!:) Brilliant through the window shots of the egrets. What a thrill to see so many in one place. Great shot of the eagle,...we had a sparrow hawk in our lounge yesterday!! The bugs are biting here too, it's so very hot, unlike any other year. Have a good day Eileen.:)

Hi Eileen, Sure enjoyed the photos and not bad at all taken through the window! Just got home a couple of days ago from the cruise up to the glaciers on Holland America. Thought about you on the trip and wondered if you would ever do another one? We had a great time and thought the best thing about it was the crew on the ship ... they were so friendly and made us feel so welcome. Hope all is well with you and have a happy day!

I always love your posts from Bombay Hook. I think it is my favorite place to do virtual birding ;>)) (I wish I could go there in real life sometime). Don't blame you for staying in the car under those circumstances -- and your pictures turned out quite well!

Isn't it fun to be retired and be able to read whenever you want to?

I have never seen a flock of egrets. Very interesting. A trip well worth the effort. I always look forward to your birding to see what exciting and to me exotic birds that you find. Thanks so much for sharing.
