Hello,
Today, I am sharing the Anhinga. It is a common bird in Florida. The Anhinga is also known as American Darter or the Snakebird.
There is at least one Anhinga on this tree with a few Cormorants. Can you find the Anhinga? The bill is different on the Anhinga, sharper and thin.
The Anhinga can stay under water for a long period of time.
The male is a dark color almost glossy looking. Their wings are streaked with white.
Anhinga seen at Circle B Reserve.
Pretty colors on the breeding male Anhinga.
Thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.
My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

Some great shots. Kudos
Hi Eileen, great photos and information on your anhinga. I saw it on the left of that tree? Beautiful photos of the male - special lighting in that image. We also call them darters and in Afrikaans they're called snake-neck. Thanks for sharing. Great post all round. Greetings Jo
Hello Eileen, I have never heard of an Anhinga. What a stunning looking bird and I love the eye colour of the male!
Happy Monday :)
Amazing Awesome Anhinga here. All of them.. Wow
Something primitive about them. Cormorant's cousin
It is beautiful and looks quite formidable!

Wow! The coloring is really interesting on this bird. Lovely!.
Oh,Eileen, these are wonderful...this bird fascinates me. Actually there are several I would love to get to see in real life...and some I actually see, just never can get enough.
...some wonderful captures.
Excellent photographs! I remember seeing cormorants when I was down in Florida; now I'm wondering if some of them were anhingas. Thanks for the informative post!
What a majestic bird.
wonderful shots! Such a handsome bird
Dearest Eileen; Oh, Anhinga is really different from cormorant which I can see in our parks☆☆☆ Your pictures really show us their characteristics♪ The last pictures' blue ring of the eye of the male is spectacular and must be enchanting to the females:-)
Sending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my Dear friend, xoxo Miyako*
Hello Eileen,
Very nice pictures.
Great to see all these beautiful and special birds. Wonderful.
Greetings, Marco
Hello Eileen - really great shots and such an interesting bird. I loved your post and, wow, that last capture is really something!
Have a great week :D)
Judith just shared a photo of the anhinga on her site too! You have captured the beauty of this rather unusual bird Eileen. So pretty with the white streaks in his wings. I find they're such a large bird to be diving into the water compared to other diving birds. That sharp beak looks like it could really spear his dinner with ease!
Wendy
lovely photos, specially the last one - the colours round the eye are amazing
love the second shot
Great close-ups Eileen! Your Darters are almost identical to ours!
Spectacular pictures of a very handsome bird..Love the green/blue eye shot..
Beautiful portraits (Audubon guide worthy!). I remember being so surprised at that tuxedo-like pattern on the Anhinga's spread wings.
Beautiful photos!
P.S. I found you by way of Mildred's blog. Looking forward to seeing your beautiful photos with each post.
Hi Eileen,
such a fabulous and wonderful bird. I´ve never seen them before.
Have a great Wednesday, Eileen.
Best, Synnöve
Wonderful!
Hope you are having a beautiful week!
Stunning photos Eileen. You really found some super light there. A bird with three wonderful names too.
Absolutely stunning of the Anhinga Eileen.
Very nice. I love the colors in the close-up !
Great set of pictures - we have a very similar species here. Loved the beach shots in the newer post as well.
Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
Superb capture on the snakebirds... the darter does exist here too and first time seeing it at the bird sanctuary we actually thought it as snake. Wonderful detail on the images
They make interesting perching birds in the trees......Michelle
Très belle série ;-)

I saw plenty of Anhingas when I lived in Florida, but I never saw them like this...your photos really bring us up close and personal with these gorgeous birds. I just looked at these photos over and over. Thank you for sharing!
Marie
I've never heard of, or seen this beautiful bird under any of those names.
Really nice photos Eileen!
love the second image, it pleases my eyes a lot. :)
Cool to see many of them in one image. I have only seen them one by one :)
Great photos as always! it gets the name from the long, snake-look neck?
